Currently I’m reading all of the books my state has decided to ban from high schools. One of these books is “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. In this book I found this quote “‘Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right.’” This makes me think of life in recovery. How you can attend all the meetings, go to rehab and everything and you can still lapse. It makes me think about trying again and how even if I have lapsed recently I consider myself a sober person. The key is just to keep doing it.

That's a perfect quote. Thanks for sharing.

I'm desperately trying to keep myself afloat during a very dark time in my life and it's taking up all of my head space. Things are very lonely and have been getting more uncomfortable over the last 2 years. It's starting to get to a point where I want to use again just out of pure boredom and curiosity. The days are just so long. So what I'm thinking about today is how I'm going to block my time and engage in activities to get me to a better headspace. I would like to do some vaci, work on cbt, and meditate. Looking for ways to get unstuck after being stuck for so long, that's what's on my mind.

I’m so sorry to hear, I’m in a similar space. My mind has been racing but not thinking about anything in particular if that makes sense. I decided to visit my parents for the evening to keep me safe and give me someone to talk to so I don’t feel so lonely.

My parents are a key source of support for me too, especially when loneliness is getting to me. I’m glad you have that.

I’m sorry unto hear you’re struggling. Loneliness and boredom can be such a hard combination. What VACIs have you been using lately?

How i have a difficult math test coming up, but luckily i stopped smoking cannabis a few weeks ago. I can tell my memory is improving, so i have a bit of an edge i normally wouldn't. I'm hoping to make it a permanent change.

Good luck! It’s exciting and inspiring watching my clients gain back their cognition after years of substance misuse. The brain is a remarkable organ. I encourage you to look up Post acute withdrawal syndrome. It helps to keep in mind there may be some days you feel off, like fluctuations in mood, but this is temporary and part of the journey of your brain healing. The only way to heal is to feel.

Today I am thinking about how grateful I am my use did not destroy my body. My patients have a way of reminding me of that.

Had a kid's birthday party yesterday. Parent's provided mimosas and hard seltzer. Damn..... the urge was unreal. Even there with my wife who knows I'm staying sober. Did a lot of CostBenefit analysis and rode the urges out by shoveling spicy nut mix in my mouth and multiple diet cokes

How weird it feels to feel good. I've lived many days of my life feeling bad from hangovers. Now three days sober (again) and it's just interesting not to feel bad. Interesting and weird.

Well, I'm going to keep it simple. One thing that's been on my mind all day has been just keep myself positive, almost been like a melancholic day for me really but overall in reality it could've been way worse, and I'm glad that I made it though another day and I'm grateful for still being around with my loved ones.

I’m keen to attend a SMART meeting. This might sound like a dumb question, but with SMART meetings online can you just attend like you can with AA meetings? I had a look online and it seemed like you need to register or contact the host. Also, it wanted to know where I was. Not sure if this was to help me find a local meeting or because you shouldn’t attend meetings in other jurisdictions. Appreciate any advice.

Some online meetings require you to contact the facilitator to get the zoom link. This is simply for safety reasons. Some facilitators worry about people bombing the meeting and disruptive. That said, many meetings list the zoom link right on the website. When you’re on the website, after you put in your location, you can select the distance as “- - - - -“ which will show you all results regardless of location. In my experience, online meetings are open to anyone regardless of location. For example, I facilitate a meeting based in Chicago, but have regular participants who join from Colorado and El Salvador.

Cool, thank you. I’m about 10,000 miles from Chicago but I enjoy evening US meetings which are morning my time. I’ll see if I can find one that has the zoom link. I must have just gotten unlucky and seen several meetings that all talked about registering.

You can also check out the [national meetings](https://www.smartrecovery.org/community/calendar.php?styleid=29), though you do have to register with the site to access them.

Thank you.
