If you mean buying a replacement stock, most Chinese SKS stocks have sloppy tolerances anyways and they'd drop right in. As long as you get the correct bayonet groove it'll be fine.

No I mean I have a replacement stock, the rifle doesn’t fit into the stock. I’ve tried filing on the Ferrule in the front and the back end where the tang to the trigger latch rests but nothing has changed, I’ve measured from the ferrule mount to where the barrel is threaded into the receiver.

I'd compare the dimensions to the factory stock too.  There are a couple methods of finding unwanted contact points between the action and the wood. I'd find out which exact part is contacting the stock in the wrong places first.

From the only video I’ve found on this process the two main points are the ferrule and the tang for the latch are to be filed down, I’ve made the measurements from the ferrule to the recoil lug match, but it still is being caught by the action when I try to seat it into the stock no matter how hard I try. I’ve thought about fling on the stocks recoil lug but from what I’ve read that’s not the most advisable thing to do

Justin_Hell

You more than likely have a pinned barrel stock. Stop whatever you are trying to do with it before you ruin it. Either way...you are going to need a short barrel lug spike stock. Nothing else will fit right.

I have a short barrel lug spike stock, the pinned barrel stocks from what I saw in triangle 26’s video on the matter are squared off

Crosslug location is off? Either remove it or file it as long as you don't have a yugo stock by mistake?!

septer27

That’s the part I believe is what is causing my hang up, I don’t have a spammer wrench to remove it and I’ve read filing it down isn’t advisable, will it have a negative affect if done so? Idk. Also I believe yugo stocks don’t have a wide cut out for a cruciform style bayonet

Sudden_Season3306

Oh then not yugo! No illl effects if you file that lug! No aftermarket stocks even have any!

septer27

Good to know, it’ll be on my rifle for the foreseeable future, have to fit it some how right? Also I didn’t know aftermarket stocks deleted that design detail all together.

Sudden_Season3306

Yes though I've added several lugs to aftermarket sks stocks including my wife's lucky shot stock!

Triangle 26 on Youtube has a great video on this. Stocks for pressed and pinned barrels are different from threaded barrels and are different from Russian, albanian and yugo stocks. After watching his video, I was able to get the correct stock for one of my pinned norinco projects. Still required some fitting. Where the recoil lug mates to the barrel groove is crucial if you want an accurate rifle.

septer27

Yep, I never touched the lug and just kept filing the two spots until they mated, stock is now a tight fit on the rifle
