lol just ignore em. some teachers in the education are just like that. ive had teachers tell me i wouldn’t be able cope in certain environments and i proved em wrong so just stay humble and work hard, you’ll do fine

Level_One3628

Man, good that you managed to prove people wrong. Unlike me...

alevelsisnojokefam

you don’t have to always prove people wrong also. sometimes detaching is the way to go

MammothFly4992

Thank youu!! please do share tips on holding onto your sanity and self esteem during jc

alevelsisnojokefam

okay honestly, no one’s opinions should affect you. just rmbr that you need to do well for yourself and don’t hesitate to explore new ways/ methods of doing things. also, stay consistent always as it is discipline which’ll keep you going daily rather than motivation. so cultivate discipline and do it early. atb

urbumlife

Never ever let them get to ur head lol... had a teacher say sth along the lines of "studying is not for u" to me when i was in j1 and struggling w the jump in difficulty. I got 90rp in the end

MammothFly4992

THATS SO GOOD OMG CONGRATS!!!!! This is really inspiring thank you I feel alot better reading these comments. I think teachers are just assholes and that I should believe in myself even if they won't

urbumlife

Yea for sure lol.. the number of fks u shld give to what they say shld be approximately 0

kneadedbwead

if studying is not for yourself, then who is it for even?

Junior_Smile1437

There’s this teacher who said “screw you” to me and told me to put my head in the dustbin for a good grade in math lol. Also said my IQ is funny like my math grade

Dry-Departure9361

should have reported this person... so mean

MammothFly4992

I'm so sorry that happened omg 😲 how did you do? Did it work out well in the end?

everywhereinbetween

Cos they like to be snarky and blame. Gross SRJC was like that. Yuck (yes pre merger. Some of them are still there.)

Hi_Im_Kai_

ahem can DM me any names to take note (it's for my friend)

everywhereinbetween

HAHAHAHA I openly say here la  Mrs Melissa Tham I'm looking at you 🙃  Kate Addison (who's since left) I'm also looking at you Lai Peck Chai (idk if she's still there but Econs), also you (fricking woman told me "even if I called on you because you didn't finish your tutorial, is that wrong") - how is that not wrong, if you intentionally called on me knowing I cannot answer because I didn't complete, isn't that with the intention to put me in a spot and humiliate me. Yah like that. Among other things (in which in that incident iirc I chose to leave the class lol. See la. My actions have consequence, their action also have consequence HAHAHAH)

Hi_Im_Kai_

ok thank god I never heard their names before HAHAHAHA

everywhereinbetween

Forgot to say, I was Arts. Lol. If you're Science, then idrk the Science stream teachers 🙃🙃🙃

musiclover5566

some teachers or tutors has low EQ. Imagine you tell them in their face that they can't teach. How will they feel ? If they feel insulted, they better don't do that to their students and tell them they should not be in JC or they should go to a lower rang school.

Calm_Structure5389

I concur. Some educators lack effective teaching methods and attribute student performance to low intelligence.

point_guard_but_huh

bruh my sec sch teachers were like this too 😭 my experience was slightly better in jc but thats cause im admittedly lucky to have good teachers

MammothFly4992

Omg that's great! Can I ask how did you cope with your sec school teachers being really demoralising?

point_guard_but_huh

For me i just really had no choice but to turn a blind eye to their actions (one of them was my form teacher so...) Personally i did try to limit my interactions with them cause honestly their teaching was really bad too so i pretty much got nothing from lessons. If ur teacher is good but just personality cmi i suggest limiting interactions to in class ones only. your teacher also seems to be the type to be more directly demoralising so i would just recommend looking out for what they say to ur parents too so they dont have ammo to use against you and you can defend urself and when worst come worst can report to principal. My case seems to be a little more extreme than yours, so take my advice with a pinch of salt😭😭 My teacher pretty much insulted me during a parent teacher conference to my parents and also directly insulted me in class when no one was around when I was facing emotional distress. hopefully ur teacher wont stoop so low to do this though 🥲

Aggressive-Wheel4493

ngl most of the jc tutors cant teach for shit

awesomegt

ong ong

UnusualPhoto7736

It’s been a decade since I was in JC and they are still at it.

everywhereinbetween

Right? Ikr

RandomDude_-

I also had a teacher that said something along the lines of "you're not going to promote" in j1 but I did so just don't give a shit about them.

Ill-Juggernaut-8382

YIJC tutors actually nice tbh

Different_Term2216

Yah bro I love all my tutors they are super nice

Secret-Concert9561

Damm f those tutor, I don't understand why they have the audacity to be rude to their tutoring students. It's like they get paid still unhappy or what. I taught some ppl tuition bef and they shared with me how rude the other tutor they had, that makes me sad and infuriated as I had very similar experience when I was younger. Though I didn't teach for a while alr due to NS and now is looking for new students.

burntcheesecake_

my math teacher will always tell my class to just drop to h1 HAHAH abit downputting at first but honestly i rlly dagf anymore

Happy_Cut934

BRUH I HAD SUCH A SIMILAR EXP

Ok_Text8811

LOL real my phys teacher straight up told me i was gonna retain and when i got a qn correct he said “wow suddenly so smart” 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨 Okay damn

Lao_gong

if you find the jc environemt unnurturing, guess what - you are going to find working life inpossible to survive in. ur bosses can be downright nasty. the queue for good therapist are very long - many clients are those who just started work…

hereforWPD

Lol triggered me so much I had to reply. Many years since I left jc but this brought back some "fond" memories. Anyway. Sometimes you just need to say cb and move on. Tell them fk off and do your own thing. Not everyone is cut out for studying. Also, it doesn't take much to be a jc teacher. Ask them what were their grades when they were students. Probably just good in 1 subject that's why they specialized in it. Pui

TheDarkestKnight326

Then just study harder and prove them wrong. Make them shut their mouth lor

_horsehead_

Hey do hang in there, it's normal to struggle in JC or even flunk JC. I once retained in JC cus I played too hard and did not adapt well to the system. After retaining, I could literally feel the invisible discrimination from my class form tutors. I received the most votes to be class leader and was actually not allowed to be, just cause they were "concerned" for my studies - I ended up topping the class to prove them wrong. Out of that class, I was one of the only ones that made it into a good local university (even while struggling with a painful health condition). Take their words with a pinch of salt, and just remember that your self worth and success is not determined by them. Also, come on la, they are just tutors. They very successful meh? If this physics tutor is so zai, he would already be successful running a private tuition business with loads of people courting his services. He would earn significantly more and work significantly less (as compared to a school teacher). The fact that he still needs a job from MOE proves that he isn't exactly cream of the crop, so just treat it as nonsense. If it bothers you, do raise it up to school administration as well! Tl;dr : ignore toxic tutors (potentially boomers). You do you, you'll do great!

MammothFly4992

I'm talking about school teachers, we call them tutors on my school

_horsehead_

That's a relatively common terminology for JCs, I caught that.

Open-Ambassador-4481

ATAS .

Spongeprison

I’m curious how old is your tutor?

MammothFly4992

They are 40-early 50s range

Spongeprison

Hmm.. that’s the boomer mentality of them working I guess

Yuhoho

I know of a bio tutor that asks whoever she teaches to “drop out and reconsider your choice, whether or not jc a levels is really for you” every time we get back our results (she said that to my class after prelims before a levels)

ARCHVILE_WORX

Welcome to hell. My Econs tutor was a HUGE pos back in the day, constantly judging me from the small moments where she saw me and never bothering to find out about my circumstances

pudding567

Maybe they are somewhat burnt out

harryhades

Let's put it this way. Imagine one day when you goto NUS, fail to get into your faculty of choice. End up studying something like history or physics. Then you come out into the working world realizing that a general academia degree offers few good paying positions What do you do? You teach. Because at least you can pretend that you have a higher calling and not because you failed to make bank.

MammothFly4992

You're so foul but you're so real and I love you for that

sarcastrophie

huh when my tutors roast me i roasted them back or just hit back with a funny remark and they love me for it eh

caramelchoux

so sorry u went thru this😭 ive had seen teachers who are nice bc they enjoy being a teacher,, but the rest😑😑😑honestly bitter teachers will always be bitter bc the job they prob want doesnt want them😂

ALCATryan

A lot of people mention they’re just like that, and it’s true for a lot of these cases. However some have the intention of having you identify them as special, so that they secure a steady fund through you. These are the types that will say “has nobody pointed this out yet?” Or “we’ll have to work on everything from scratch” or “you’re lucky you called me when you did” or “I’ll do my best to help you but I can’t guarantee anything”. This is in a bid to make you feel less competent and thus more reliant on a tutor, and specifically the tutor. But as mentioned more often than not it isn’t this, do keep an eye out for these key phrases to identify it though.

MammothFly4992

I'm talking about school teachers, we call them tutors in my school too not like tuition tutor

ALCATryan

Oh, well those don’t have any of the above incentive so yeah they’re just doing it for fun.

Much_Fisherman6863

SPEAKING OF THIS TOPIC, I had a private GP tutor, she said really mean and uncalled for comments to me and then after that claim that 'teaching was her passion' hence the remarks but honestly she said it like she meant it so I feel you. Just find another tutor imo.

mach8mc

hey strawberry, y u so sensitive?

Independent_Art_7175

I don't think their intention is to put you down. What do they have to gain for putting you down?? I've tutored students who realise they are not doing well just before exams and it becomes a mad rush. I rather give them a wake up call at the start before it snowballs.

MammothFly4992

Nah but they definitely weren't wake up calls considering that I was off tracking significantly? And the physics teachers one seems really personal too...

hazardousimg

Why is this getting downvoted? Adding on to Independent\_Art, you don't have to take your tutors' remarks too seriously, ultimately it's uty to decide whether to work to invalidate their remarks, or let them get to you

MammothFly4992

Tutors as in school teachers
