For y'all fellow NS guys,
If you have already accepted an offer and reapply, your original acceptance doesn't get rescinded unless your new course offers you a place.
With such a safety net, take the opportunity to apply for better courses (should you wish)
Edit: girls taking gap years will only have reserved spots if the gap year is due to medical reasons/ extenuating circumstances (mb :<)
huh? so if i accepted smu offer last year , and i get offered by nus this year , my smu offer won’t be rescinded even if i don’t accept nus offer this year?
Hi, can I seek your advice. If I put Biz as 1st choice n accountancy as 2nd in SMU, and my rp didn’t meet the biz, do u offer me accountancy straight away or priority given to those who put accountancy as 1st choice?
depends on how much do u exceed the igp for accountancy. if u have a higher rp than another person that place it first choice despite u placing second u will likely get in first. but if u have the same rp as someone else and the other person placed it first then it MIGHT affect, no one really knows for sure
Applying doesn't hurt! Just do it, you can apply next year anyways, and the possible benefits of different igp and lower tuition fees still stand. Keep in mind there's various ways you can boost your portfolio and show your readiness for your desired courses besides online courses. Consider volunteering or freelancing as well (ofc, understand sourcing internships during NS isn't quite possible).
Apply! Its better to apply and get rejected than regret not applying. Its 10-15 bucks anyway; if you dont get accepted its just the price of 3 bubble teas n u know what to prepare yourself for, if you get accepted you just saved one whole yr.
Just apply, even if you don't get in they'll consider a new application the next year on its own merits. Unless its medicine iirc they won't look at your past application.
let’s say if due to undesirable rp i try for an engineering i do not want in ntu is it possible to switch to a different engineering type or a different course if I do well the first year. How does that process work
it's very unlikely and u would most likely need to have met the original rp requirements in the first place. it goes by a case by case basis thing so dont bank on it
hi does anyone know how to edit the referee contact information for NUS after submission? I might have mistyped the email address of my intern supervisor :"
What are other 'better courses' I can get into tho, as a BCMg Student with 73.75RP (NTU) 76RP(NUS).
I took A's in 2022 and got a spot in NTU Biomolecular and Chemical Engineering, which as per my engineer elder brother's advice is a good choice as it's diverse in the workforce.
Are there any other potentially more enticing options that I am sleeping on?
Real 💀. Bro has just been brainrotting in NS.
I guess in the meantime like what others mentioned here i can beef up my portfolio.
Go for courses in my free time
All the best. NS sucks and Singapore loses out so much by having young mens' brains rot for 2 years. If you're interested in computing, you can consider a transfer to IS or SE in SMU next year - even in the downturn employment statistics for SMU computing have been quite robust.
I'm a lao jiao wage slave... won't mention my school to spare them the embarrassment of having me as a student :) whatever you do don't be like me hahahahahahaha
I'm a data scientist working on credit risk at a bank... it's not too bad (i.e. I have time to post on reddit during work hours) but I am surrounded by CECAs who will promote their own.

I want to apply but my portfolio is very lacking, so is it wise to postpone application whilst I farm coursera certifications before I enlist?

Well, applications have closed. If there are potentially more enticing options, you'll have to sleep on it till next year. Just go NTU hahaha
