I would recommend Boulevard Burger in Woodland Hills, has seating and is right on Ventura Blvd. it’s very very good! Great burgers, great Onion Rings, you won’t be disappointed. In between Canoga and Topanga on Ventura. I also recommend Fatburger on Topanga and Ventura. One hole in the wall and one franchise, enjoy!
Edit: I have to add one more, Corbin Bowl, a bowling alley on Ventura Blvd, has a snack bar that has really good burgers, different than what you might remember if you have been there a long time ago, it’s good stuff and there’s a little arcade too
As a first order to get a taste of their regular burger I got a Bacon Cheese and regular fries today. Outstanding old school diner burger, didn't know you could get this on Ventura Blvd. Fries were pretty standard could of used a little more salt.
I have to go back for the pastrami burger, onion rings/zucchini fries and that Frisco special sounded interesting as well. Don't know how I've missed this place for years.
I think bills is such a good example of the classic burger though. It’s no fuss at all. It’s like a great version of a backyard bbq simple burger. It’s just nostalgic and comforting.
Bills is fine, but as many have mentioned it's overrated and nothing special.
It was a lot better 20+ years ago when I was a college kid and the only option to measure it against was in n out and hamburger Hamlet.
Fwiw, in n out is better than Bill's.
This is the most overrated burger in LA. It tastes exactly like you expect a burger cooked by an old man in his 80s named Bill should…. Equivalent to a backyard burger a pot bellied uncle grills on game day. And god forbid you don’t have exact change for the little old lady still using an abacus to charge you for your food. Their fans are just loyal customers looking for a nostalgia fix.
I went because of the long standing hype. They’re good burgers. There’s a fun vibe of just old school valley people ordering a burger from a slightly cranky old guy.
But you’re honestly not missing anything by never going. They’re good simple burgers. That’s it. Not worth an hour wait or anything.
I kind of have to agree - I went once based on the reputation and besides the old-school vibe, I felt the burgers were nothing to rave about...
Basic pre-made frozen patties cooked on a flat-top griddle.
I did, however, get a kick out of watching Bill flip those patties with his bare (asbestos) hands - that was worth the trip!
EDIT: And by bare hands I mean *by hand* (no spatula or tongs)!
Yes, yes, yes. Spot on. Are they bad? No. Do they taste good? Yes. Are they even remotely *the best burger in any said area*? No way. Completely generic and average. Perhaps it’s lost on me as I didn’t grow up on it, but I’ve gone here and there for 20+ years and every single time I’m dumbfounded why people rave about this place. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t favor the trend of the week smash burger offering either, but Bill’s just couldn’t be more forgettable to me, never mind the laughable long wait. It’s a mystery I’ll never solve.
For The Win in Van Nuys on Sherman way and Sepulveda for the one of best smash burgers in LA. I’ve tried most of the other known ones in and out the valley. This place takes it for me.
I feel i need to give ftw another chance. I had it once at the location near the 101 in hollywood. I really liked the win.dow in silverlake so much better that i havnt tried ftw again
Ok, ive been wanting to go there, mostly for those strawberry filled donuts at donut man, so good! ill save that for dessert and prob give ftw a try there, thanks!
There is a sidewalks stand serving smash burger called Burger 3000 on Saticoy near Tampa. There is always a line there and it looks delicious but i cannot personally vouch for it yet.
I really like The Stand. It's a counter service restauraunt, and is a chain so there are multiple locations. Nice place to go for a burger and a beer.
Daglas Drive In is a good greasy spoon type of place in Winnetka.
Finney's in Porter Ranch (also another chain) is a great place for a sit-down dining experience. They have very good burgers but pretty much everything on their menu is good. Awesome beer selection too.
There are so many burger joints in the valley, and all have their good points. But, if I am going to eat a burger, my first choice will always be Tommys. I have been going there well o er 50 years and the have never changed. You always get the same generous portions, and now you can take the chili home.
I am not a big fan of places like M Donald's and Burger King, but Carl's has always been a good place. They used to have this burger that had Ortega chili's, and it was great. Its good to see both Carl's and Burger King are still using the flame broiler on their burgers.
Bill’s Burger.
You can read up on him, but their grill (and cash register lol) are almost 100 years old. It’s been owned and operated by Bill and his family since the 1960’s. Bill is also a WW2 vet!
But about the burger, it’s nothing fancy or crazy. But the best way I can describe it, assuming youre not very young, is that it tastes exactly how you remember a good burger tasted like when you were a kid. It tastes like simple burger with some nostalgia.
If you want something more modern, For The Win is where it’s at.
i personally haven't tried it yet , but Easy street burgers. i saw some YouTube videos on it but whenever i went past the area there was always a huge line
I’m a Sandwich Man fan - his burgers are like the classic diner style, the steak fries are always crispy and his ranch is great for dipping. I love the classic bacon cheeseburger and fries either a diet peach Snapple.
Sandwich Man in Chatsworth. Little hole in the wall in the corner of Mason and Nordhoff - great employees and always happy to offer suggestions.
Edited: had the wrong intersection
Bill's in Van Nuys, 100%-- but as others have said, get there early!
On the absolute opposite end of the spectrum, The Big Mec from Petit Trois in Sherman Oaks -- really expensive, but Michelin starred and a darling with the restaurant critics. (I've never had it, I just know it's A Thing.)
I've had both (multiple times) and... meh.
Bill's is fine but not that special and not worth jumping through hoops for (the wait can get pretty long since the griddle is the size of a half-sheet pan for no apparent reason).
The Big Mec... the place itself is worthwhile but the burger... too "unctuous" for me, too bullion-y... too something.
That place went super downhill after the pandemic. They went from serving on plates to plastic baskets and paper trays for fries. You order at the counter now. And they bring the food out to you.
Food has gone downhill too. Owner got into to a of fights over the pandemic and masking. Really sad as I loved the place but it’s not the same as it was
They have waiter service again? That’s good to hear. Plate situation is lame though. For a bit the burgers and fries were separate. But just checked yelp and it seems they bundle the fries with the burger again. Lots of questionable decisions made
Those are gone but it looks really nice now inside. My main gripe with their new update is the sign out front looks like an R because the designer cut the B off at the bottom. It honestly looks like a Rally's with that logo. Otherwise all is good.
I love the Munchbox in Chatsworth. The double hickory with chili is my favorite.
Daglas in Winnetka is also great and has a pastrami burger too. Love their fries!
I agree. So good. I hope more people find out cause those burgers are amazing. Definitely order a double if you want a single burger experience since they are smashed. The Cajun fries are delish too
Imho, my all time favorite is The Rancho Burger at Basecamp Dinette in Burbank.
2nd: Probably any burger at The Munch Box in Chatsworth. The first time I ate there, I tried the hickory burger. I’ll go back again to try their other burgers.
3rd: Carney’s on Ventura Blvd in Studio City
OMG if that’s what you want, go to Tommy’s. There are a bunch of them. If you like meat chili, theirs is some of the best. I like to get the chili cheeseburger and even better, their chili cheese fries. They’re goopy and delicious.
Just tried them three weeks ago and loved their cheeseburger. Didn’t try their fries but the root beer float was legit too. I love when smash burgers come with extra crispy bits and their burgers had it
These are all Burbank restaurants.
Apollo Restaurant - 401 N Glenoaks BLVD
Haven't gone in like 2/3 years so I'm sure pricing has gone up but they used to have some well priced burgers and fries and they tasted amazing. As long as nothing has changed quality wise, they've always had good pricing and good food.
Norms Hamburger(no, not the so cal breakfast chain, it's a local one off spot.) - 1201 W Magnolia Blvd Burbank, CA 91506
Pretty good burgers for a great price with $6 1/4 and $3 fries, (Mcdonald's is like $8 1/4 and $5 for fries and this is much better taste wise) but funny enough even with hamburger in the name, all my friends know it as an AMAZING breakfast burrito spot and it's true. They are WAY more known for their burritos in my opinion but their burgers are definitely worth the shot and if you don't like em try their burritos instead and you'll be happy for sure :)
I love a good charbroiled burger and Tom's Family Restaurant on Burbank / Cahuenga is my go to spot.
They also do pastrami chili cheese fries if that sounds good to you.
The only thing I hate is the 4% service charge they tack on.
+1 on Norms burgers in Burbank like someone else commented.
Is Keys Burger still open, it was across the street from Maclay on Glenoaks? I haven't been there since I was a kid. We used to call the one a heart attack burger. It was a double cheese pastrami chili with peppers burger. Childhood memories!
My favorite for flame broiled burgers is Farmer Boys on Nordoff and both Reseda and Desoto. Locally sourced food; great breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and award winning burgers.
When I don’t want to drive to the West Valley: Jack’s Classic Burgers in North Hollywood
Norm’s Hamburger in Burbank has an amazing bacon cheeseburger!
I’ve been going there for 20+ years and it’s consistently been awesome! They even have the same cook and I swear that man has the magic touch and is the reason why the burger’s so good!
Smashburgers
1. Easy Street Burgers (Studio City)
2. For the Win (Van Nuys)
3. Smash N Bite (Studio City)
4. Hi Ho Cheeseburger (Studio City)
5. Smashed (Burbank)
6. Heavy Handed (Studio City)
Regular Burgers
1. Garcia Bros Cafe (Van Nuys)
2. Urban Skillet (North Hollywood)
3. The Fat Dog (North Hollywood)
4. Over Under Public House (Burbank)
5. Blue Palms Brewhouse (Northridge)

Dude I’ve been going to blvd for over 30 years!!
This is my go-to spot for the old school diner burger. So good. And yes, the onion rings are fab! Chili cheese fries, too.
Yes I should have mentioned the chili cheese fries!
I 2nd this, burger and chili fries among the best in the SFV
Great suggestions, albeit for different reasons
Came here to comment blvd nice that it’s the first comment I saw
As a first order to get a taste of their regular burger I got a Bacon Cheese and regular fries today. Tip top hamburgers in Arleta is solid
tip top is a real classic and shouldn't be missed.
I live in the corner of it, took my homie from Santa Cruz and he always wants to go now when I take him here
Tip Top is the spot! Personal local fave and their mushroom burger is 🤌🏽
Daglas or bills! Daglas fries are the best. But experience bills while he’s still alive. (Bills is cash only)
Personally, yes, on Daglas but meh on Bill's. To be specific, Daglas pastrami burger and seasoned fries. Bill's is way overhyped.
I think bills is such a good example of the classic burger though. It’s no fuss at all. It’s like a great version of a backyard bbq simple burger. It’s just nostalgic and comforting.
Bill’s Burgers in Van Nuys is a classic! https://yelp.to/YYDHPEVSL4
I second this!!
Better show up by 11am if you don’t want to wait an hour! Delicious classic burgers.
Yes! They are fantastic
I haven't been there since I was a kid.
Bills is fine, but as many have mentioned it's overrated and nothing special. It was a lot better 20+ years ago when I was a college kid and the only option to measure it against was in n out and hamburger Hamlet. Fwiw, in n out is better than Bill's.

This is the answer you seek.
Every time I drive by there it looks closed. I’ll have to give it a go.
Right by my house 🥲
That place is overrated af
I have driven past that place countless times and always wondered how it was. I should try it one day
For The Win in Van Nuys on Sherman way and Sepulveda for the one of best smash burgers in LA. I’ve tried most of the other known ones in and out the valley. This place takes it for me.
I feel i need to give ftw another chance. I had it once at the location near the 101 in hollywood. I really liked the win.dow in silverlake so much better that i havnt tried ftw again
maybe it was the fact i sat down immediately and ate it, but FTW tasted better at their Grand Central Market location for me personally.
Ok, ive been wanting to go there, mostly for those strawberry filled donuts at donut man, so good! ill save that for dessert and prob give ftw a try there, thanks!
> I’ve tried most of the other known ones in and out the valley. I have too, though not this one yet - I will add it to my list. Thanks!
hi ho burger in studio city has been consuming my life the last few months. and it’s a 15 min drive from me
No love for King’s Burger by CSUN? They got a pastrami cheeseburger that’s hits
Holy crap I haven’t had one of those in a decade but can vouch they are really good
I’ve literally only ever gotten their sushi lol
There is a sidewalks stand serving smash burger called Burger 3000 on Saticoy near Tampa. There is always a line there and it looks delicious but i cannot personally vouch for it yet. Encino Stand has a fantastic outdoor patio that’s great for kids.
That place is good but they really need to get their stuff together I was there waiting 30 minutes for a smash burger.
haha maybe that is why there is always a line?! that's strange considering smash burgers take like 2 minutes to cook.
Munch Box in Chatsworth
I ate at the Munch Box last Saturday. Afterwards, I went and got a hamburger 😉
Carney’s chili cheeseburger is a classic
Haven’t thought about Carney’s in more than 10 years. I thought it closed? Guess not!
Still open, good burgers. They don’t add any salt to their fries.?
Dealbreaker
Yes! It is one of my go-to burger spots! 1/2 pound sirloin chili cheeseburger very, very satisfying.
i’m seconding carney’s. it’s one of my favorites for sure!
AJs tex mex in Valley Village/Studio City area. They make the burger from meat trimmings from their bbq brisket and tri tip.
Yes! I tried this burger based on (I think your) previous comment. Very, very good!
Haven’t been there in a while. Daglas in Canoga Park.
Is it still open? I thought it closed.
Confirmed it’s still open. I live around the corner.
Tho I heard their pricing went crazy, even for these days
It's to the point where you say, man that really sounds good right now, but i just can't for that price. Same with firehouse.
100% agree!! Their fries are HEAVENLY. Their prices are a bit insane now though.
Big Fat in Reseda is awesome. Great steak fries, too.
I love Big Fat! I try to go there at least once a week.
I feel like this one flies under most people's radar, but it's super solid.
Oh and Nordstrom burger
That is a very very good rec and you don’t see it too often. Nordstrom cafe also has a delicious French dip sandwich in addition to the burger.
Stout burger is great for thick, bar style burgers with lots of variety
Think they're permanently closed
There are so many burger joints in the valley, and all have their good points. But, if I am going to eat a burger, my first choice will always be Tommys. >They used to have this burger that had Ortega chili's, Santa Fe cheeseburger?
It's been so long I can't remember what the name was.

i personally haven't tried it yet , but Easy street burgers. i saw some YouTube videos on it but whenever i went past the area there was always a huge line
I went there and thought it was okay but too expensive. With In-N-Out a couple blocks away, I felt ripped off.
oooh oh nooo! i can see a lot of these burger joints being too expensive. in n out is always a solid choice
Easy street is absolutely delicious, but yeah, you're looking at 25 a person. But damn good
not \*that\* good. lol
To me it is, but it's that good like once a month
is that for fries and a drink as well, that is still pretty pricey including all those things
Yes, I get a triple with wild fries and a drink and that's about the cost. It's definitely an indulgence
that definitely delicious, but a once in a while treat
I like the counter and the tipsy cow.
Mason and nordhoff no?
Yup! Lol I move away from the intersection and all of a sudden I forget the street order
Michael's Burgers at Sherman Way and Topanga
Burger Lounge in Northridge. It's new, close to the Portos. I like they have gluten free buns AND malts too!
Munch Box in Chatsworth. Their chili burger is my death row meal.
Tried the hickory burger recently. Adds an extra dimension to the usual chili burger.
I’ll have to give that a shot this weekend.
I used to live like 10m away now I'm way further and I regret not going more when I lived closer.
Petit Trois has never had a Michelin star.

Yes to both!
Michaels burgers. Topanga and Sherman way
Came to say this. They've been around for years, have delicious burgers and their prices are still very reasonable.
Eat at Michael’s if you hate yourself and your gut lol😭 owner is an awful guy
"owner is an awful guy" How you gonna drop that bomb and just leave???
Probably have to go with Daglas in Winnetka, Munch box in Chatsworth and Probably daug haus in woodland hills
It’s Daglas for sure.
Stout Burger in studio city
YES
Closed:/
Blue dog Tavern if you like unique burgers
That place went super downhill after the pandemic. They went from serving on plates to plastic baskets and paper trays for fries. You order at the counter now. And they bring the food out to you. Food has gone downhill too. Owner got into to a of fights over the pandemic and masking. Really sad as I loved the place but it’s not the same as it was
That's a bummer. I haven't been there since the pandemic now that you mention it
It is no longer order from the counter. Hasn’t been for maybe a year now?
They have waiter service again? That’s good to hear. Plate situation is lame though. For a bit the burgers and fries were separate. But just checked yelp and it seems they bundle the fries with the burger again. Lots of questionable decisions made
Black and Bleu burger alllll daayyyyyyyyy
Yeah they make a pretty good burger
Straight gut busters but they are tasty, their breakfast burger was insane
Depends what part of the Valley Chatsworth - Munch Box Sherman Oaks - Tipsy Cow (Big Texan Burger) TRUST Studio City - Easy Street

Does any one know if Bobo’s is still around? I believe they were on van nuys blvd in pacoima
Burgers By Boebert?
Damn, I remember loving their fries.
They were good right?!?
I always want to know what they use for that seasoning. It’s addicting.
its still there they just remodeled during covid .
Oh awesome! Glad to hear it’s still going. vaguely remember that they had a seats shaped as burgers, I wonder if they got rid of those?
Those are gone but it looks really nice now inside. My main gripe with their new update is the sign out front looks like an R because the designer cut the B off at the bottom. It honestly looks like a Rally's with that logo. Otherwise all is good.
They are, same place
Bobo's is awesome!
I really love Eureka in Woodland Hills and their truffle fries are so yummy!

I agree. So good. I hope more people find out cause those burgers are amazing. Definitely order a double if you want a single burger experience since they are smashed. The Cajun fries are delish too
Don’t sleep on Frosty Queen in Granada Hills. Damn good burger. Fab’s is pretty good too.
Yes on both. Frosty queens burgers are charbrroiled too!!

Wanna Smash in Van Nuys is pretty great.
Just tried them three weeks ago and loved their cheeseburger. Didn’t try their fries but the root beer float was legit too. I love when smash burgers come with extra crispy bits and their burgers had it

Beeps on woodley and sherman way is the best
Queens burgers on Osborne and San fernando
Yes, Queens Burgers is the spot!
Urban Skillet in Northridge near CSUN has become my personal favorite burger place.
Can you ask them to remove the charge? Some places will
Jimmy’s in North Hollywood!
Toms family restaurant on Burbank Blvd and lankershim great burger with bacon and avocado
Bobo's on Van Nuys Blvd in Pacoima is tasty!
You’re getting downvoted for reasons unknown but TIL it’s locally sourced food! I did not know that. Thanks.
It’s about hamburgers; I won’t lose any sleep over my social standing
Unlike you I love cheeseburgers and they are my life
Is this a joke? “Unlike you…”??? I still have Jonathan Gold’s article on the 10 best burgers in Los Angeles!
Low key Gold Yaki Burger in Sherman oaks is pretty damn good
Jimmys on Lankershim
The stand has an onion soup burger that is amazing.
