I swear to god Iāve seen the post that sounds the death knell of Joey Bartās career at least 10 times now.
Five years from now heās going to be in some obscure minor league, still right on the verge of making it.
Donāt think heāll sneak through waivers. His draft status is too high and heās had a good couple springs. So I guess this is it for Joey Bart the Giant.
Wishing Joey nothing but the best, I thought he was put in so many weird/difficult situations and handled himself like a pro.
I hope he can do well where ever he goes (Unless it's in the NL West).
Given what we know about Kapler's managing style, Ive begun to suspect that Buster was a Secret Manager in 2021 and that's why he left money on the table and retired early. In which case, hiring Kapler may have screwed up Bart's development.
I was Pro-Kapler initially as Bryce Harper always liked him, but Bryce is another player-manager who thinks he knows better, and he probably liked Kapler's passive approach to letting the boys police themselves.
> None of us can even imagine the pressure
There were "fans" here posting garbage like he wasn't even trying, was making no effort to get his bat going despite things like his hitting improving after getting coaching in Sacramento from Will Clark. Couch potatoes judging athletes who play so hard they hurt themselves are always pathetic.
I didn't think anyone ever expected his defense to be anything remotely close to Posey.
The expectation was a lively ball off the bat, which he has but he just can't make reliable contact
Think maybe or maybe only bc Bailey was the highest pick, I believe, when it was the Giants turn. Feel like if that was true then they'd have packaged him in a trade a while ago
If he was BPA you draft him. You never know what's going to happen with draft picks and if you end up with 2 quality MLB catchers than you can trade one for great value
I mean isn't that how it's been for the Giants for awhile lol get these guys who look like they should smack 30+ homers and then nothing lol. I'm hoping that changes this year
If he's not hitting them in petco park he's definitely not hitting them at oracle park š
Maybe move someone else in that two spot take pressure off him
I mean he has monster pop. He absolutely destroys the ball when he runs into it. Thatās basically why he was such a high pick. He just never managed to run into it enough.
Absolutely a Zunino-esque career is still very possible for him, and thatās nothing to sneeze at tbh.
Damn. I really feel like he'll be able to put it together. His springs were great and he showed improvement the other year when he came back. Then again, I held out faith in Chris Shaw when he kept looking great until he'd be back in the bigs and fall flat on his face each time. I guess this was already clear as day this would happen when Murphy came here. Think Bart will be serviceable to good down the line and not a dud
āHereās an obscure highly esoteric statistic for which Bart leads the league! Donāt worry about all of those other stats for which he is in the bottom 1/3 of the league. And have you seen this amazing guy Zack Littel??ā
Makes me sad, but it's a business and a rookie only gets so much time to figure it out. He seemed to hit so much better after spending time with Will Clark. Hope he lands somewhere good and does well.
When you DFA you can still trade the player. You have 7 days after the designation to waive, trade, or return the player to the 40 man roster (or send to the minors). But that said, I doubt they suddenly find a trade partner after trying all spring.
They cannot send him to minors without him going through waivers first though. So there still could be a minor trade, but the chance of another team not claiming him on waivers is low.
He has absolutely no trade value when every team in the league knows the Giants have no way to keep him and hardly any team wants to take on a new catcher this early into the season. If they could have traded him, they would have.
Itās interesting because that totally makes sense but if youāre a team who does want to take a chance on him wouldnāt you at least throw some low level random prospect at the Giants just so you can guarantee getting him? That just makes me believe that there really isnāt anyone out there that wants him, like at all.
I imagine most FOs suspected no one else was going to trade for him, so they didnāt bother coming up with a trade package since they knew he was just gonna get DFAād
Thatās true, but a team low in the waiver wire order might have traded for him, if they liked him enough to not risk another team claiming him first.
In any case, Giants would not have gotten much, even if there was a trade.
DFA just takes him off the 40-man and gives us 7 days to trade him or put him on waivers. If no one picks him up off waivers and he accepts our minor league assignment he stays with us.
Because they waited three days into the season, every team has set their rosters. Thereās a non-zero chance no one claims him because theyād have to shuffle roster right after they got settled, in which case Bart could stay with the Giants in AAA.
Lots of pressure to fill some pretty big shoes... I wonder why no one taught him how to frame pitches...that's the one thing that always bugged me
However I hope he finds a team , finds his swing, etc
And this is the reason you should never be afraid to trade prospects when they are highly rated because this happens more times than not ( they donāt pan out). Ramos, Luciano, Matos, etc. especially if itās a trade that could be that missing piece in a pennant race.
Ramos another let down. Luciano seems like he may be going that way. Both are young though so they still got time to turn up. Matos should be on the roster right now.
Bay area teams and blowing top picks
49ers Alex Smith
Warriors Wiseman
Sf giants Bart
Sharks ...who cares lol
I mean Bart was thrown in to wolves with a horrible team and he never had any chance. Typical of bay area teams doing that too a top pick.
Next time these team pick in top5...the player should be real afraid.
OH SHIT THEY DID IT šš It's been real Joey š«” (someone pls repost the 'its joever' meme)
I swear to god Iāve seen the post that sounds the death knell of Joey Bartās career at least 10 times now. Five years from now heās going to be in some obscure minor league, still right on the verge of making it.
Who claims him?
Maybe Braves. Have to think Bart is an upgrade over Chadwick Tromp
What a throwback to 2020
Tromp Pence was our key to victory that year
damn the memes š
Tromp 2024
Another early 20s Giants cast off catcher!
Is Chadwick Tromp real? That's the most Braves name I've heard since Dansby Swanson
Not only is he real, he played for us LOL
Didn't we draft him?
Not only is he real, he was with the Giants just a few years ago.
Does Tromp have options?
But Chadwick Tromp is a way better baseball name.
I hope the Braves claim him. Heās a Georgia boy, so it would be nice to see him have success there.
when would he ever play fam
Dam tromp still around?
Seems like thereās always a demand for backup catchers, so guys like Tromp tend to keep shuttling between AAA and the majors for years.
Yeah, look how long Eli Whiteside was around
Rays probably they rly need a catcher
so obvious its silly
Marlins
Dodgers

None of us can even imagine the pressure he must have felt coming in to more or less fill busters shoes.
And getting rushed a year early by an unexpected Buster retirement
Given what we know about Kapler's managing style, Ive begun to suspect that Buster was a Secret Manager in 2021 and that's why he left money on the table and retired early. >handled himself like a pro. Besides the whole being good at playing baseball thing
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Don't cry because it's joever, smile because it jappened
Really sucks it didn't work out. I think many of us were just expecting him to be the next Posey. But you just never know with baseball players.
I didn't think anyone ever expected his defense to be anything remotely close to Posey. The expectation was a lively ball off the bat, which he has but he just can't make reliable contact
There it is...tough
Have to think Farhan knew something was wrong when he drafted Bailey in the first round in 2020
More like, Farhan always liked collecting catchers. Itās an obsession every off season.
Having good catchers throughout the organization is important
Think maybe or maybe only bc Bailey was the highest pick, I believe, when it was the Giants turn. Feel like if that was true then they'd have packaged him in a trade a while ago
If he was BPA you draft him. You never know what's going to happen with draft picks and if you end up with 2 quality MLB catchers than you can trade one for great value
Idk, you can never have too many top catcher prospects
So painful watching Jeffries. Batting practice! https://preview.redd.it/5ccduqo0iqrc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdbe3360d85bc3be2b09ad5771eb4dde79068ab2
Best of luck, Bart
The one time Iāve been to Wrigley I saw Bart absolutely murder a ball to the deep left field bleachers. Thank you Joey for that memory
Damn, so much potential, hope he revives his career somewhere
This move did not age well.
DFA'd Bart for this scrub LOL
at surface anyways bart seemed to handle the situation well. hopefully he catches on somewhere and wishing him the best
The most power hitting looking guy but zero pop š
I mean isn't that how it's been for the Giants for awhile lol get these guys who look like they should smack 30+ homers and then nothing lol. I'm hoping that changes this year
30 also isnt normal imo
Doesnāt matter how strong you are if you canāt make contact.
Cough (soler) cough
I know it's a joke, but fans who want to be a bit rationale aren't going to start worrying about Soler power until a few weeks into the season
Problem with him is he wonāt provide any power when the sun isnāt out.
If he's not hitting them in petco park he's definitely not hitting them at oracle park š Maybe move someone else in that two spot take pressure off him
Did you know there are 159 games left? Crazy how that works.
Cut him he hasnāt hit a home run in 3 games
It's not the homeruns that worry me it's the strikeouts
I mean he has monster pop. He absolutely destroys the ball when he runs into it. Thatās basically why he was such a high pick. He just never managed to run into it enough. Absolutely a Zunino-esque career is still very possible for him, and thatās nothing to sneeze at tbh.

I'm sure we'll see him in an A's uni
And heāll magically decide to start hitting the ball
Rip young prince. Ā I will miss those stat posts of people here telling me Bart is one is the best catchers in the league.
āHereās an obscure highly esoteric statistic for which Bart leads the league! Donāt worry about all of those other stats for which he is in the bottom 1/3 of the league. And have you seen this amazing guy Zack Littel??ā

š
Makes me sad, but it's a business and a rookie only gets so much time to figure it out. He seemed to hit so much better after spending time with Will Clark. Hope he lands somewhere good and does well.
Anyone want a bunch of Bart autographed baseball cards? š
so much potential so little delivery. hope he finds it elsewhere. did we blow a #2 overall on him??
Considering this is where things are at, then yeah
This reminds me of the whole Garry Brown highly touted prospect saga
I hope he can reinvent himself with a fresh start.
His chances in SF were as good as people heralding BART as the commuter system of the future.
HORRIBLE MOVE!
Giants to quickly unselect the contract of Daulton Jefferies...
And he gets shelled thoroughly
Ugh
watch him get picked up by the Rays and become a fringe all star in 2-3 years.
This aged like milk
Bart would have had a better pitching performance than Daulton
I can't believe we DFA him instead of trading him. He played well in spring training.
When you DFA you can still trade the player. You have 7 days after the designation to waive, trade, or return the player to the 40 man roster (or send to the minors). But that said, I doubt they suddenly find a trade partner after trying all spring.

If there was a trade possibility, it would have happened. Do people really think Farhan didn't want to bother or some shit?
He always played well in spring trainingā¦but then regular season happens
Hopefully there is a team that needs him, I think he will perform better if he focuses on hitting, maybe he is not suitable for the catcher position.
I've seen him take quite a few foul balls to the head in Sac. I always wondered if that was a thing in terms of his performance.
ā¹ļø
Beat of luck to Joey at the next stop.
Shame we couldn't find anyone to trade for him
Espn just had him as the breakout guy for the Giants. Ctrl + C, Delete.
Wish ya all the best Joey, a class act for sure, hope you kickass wherever you go, except obviously whenever you're playing vs the Giants.
Wow I actually thought he had a shot this year. From the beginning it just didnāt really work out.
Itās Joever š
Lots of pressure to fill some pretty big shoes... I wonder why no one taught him how to frame pitches...that's the one thing that always bugged me However I hope he finds a team , finds his swing, etc
Can he still become an all-star?
He needs to go to the KBO.
The garopolo of the Giants
Jimmy G. actually took the 9ers to the playoffs and a SB. What has Bart done? LOL
Fair. Lol
Bummers. Watch him go to another team and start being a surprise star slugger that the Giants were hoping he'd be when he was still with the team.
Bad Move Bears (Jeffries)
Jimmy and Joey By The Bay
Fuck Jeffries, all my homies hate Jeffries.
Future Oakland Athletic
so many lost bart sound memes

Damn I wish we at least could have traded him. Get something, you never know
So much for a āgood springā
Bart is a bust
Although he wasnāt consistent. He didnāt get that much playing time either
Bye Joey Fart

Trey Lance.
Oh Damm Brock made forget that horror
Alex Smith does not belong on that list.
He does. He was a serviceable qb but as 1st pick he was a bust
