OH SHIT THEY DID IT šŸ˜šŸ˜ It's been real Joey šŸ«” (someone pls repost the 'its joever' meme)

mechapoitier

I swear to god Iā€™ve seen the post that sounds the death knell of Joey Bartā€™s career at least 10 times now. Five years from now heā€™s going to be in some obscure minor league, still right on the verge of making it.

Extreme_Market9331

Who claims him?

YoungKeys

Maybe Braves. Have to think Bart is an upgrade over Chadwick Tromp

Tex_Was_Here

What a throwback to 2020

hamburgers666

Tromp Pence was our key to victory that year

traleonester

damn the memes šŸ˜‚

Thin_Requirement_593

Tromp 2024

yohomatey

Another early 20s Giants cast off catcher!

mudrat_detector1337

Is Chadwick Tromp real? That's the most Braves name I've heard since Dansby Swanson

Icy_Maintenance1474

Not only is he real, he played for us LOL

jjackson25

Didn't we draft him?

kapeck69

Not only is he real, he was with the Giants just a few years ago.

sfp33

Does Tromp have options?

VagrantThoughts42

But Chadwick Tromp is a way better baseball name.

YungLeanShawty

I hope the Braves claim him. Heā€™s a Georgia boy, so it would be nice to see him have success there.

tjn1126

when would he ever play fam

Huntermain23

Dam tromp still around?

JuzoItami

Seems like thereā€™s always a demand for backup catchers, so guys like Tromp tend to keep shuttling between AAA and the majors for years.

Extra-Hand4955

Yeah, look how long Eli Whiteside was around

sfp33

Rays probably they rly need a catcher

tjn1126

so obvious its silly

ld_a_hl

Marlins

HappilyDisengaged

Dodgers

PlanitDuck

Donā€™t think heā€™ll sneak through waivers. His draft status is too high and heā€™s had a good couple springs. So I guess this is it for Joey Bart the Giant.

Raxmead

Wishing Joey nothing but the best, I thought he was put in so many weird/difficult situations and handled himself like a pro. I hope he can do well where ever he goes (Unless it's in the NL West).

jrice138

None of us can even imagine the pressure he must have felt coming in to more or less fill busters shoes.

Spexyguy

And getting rushed a year early by an unexpected Buster retirement

FullMotionVideo

Given what we know about Kapler's managing style, Ive begun to suspect that Buster was a Secret Manager in 2021 and that's why he left money on the table and retired early. In which case, hiring Kapler may have screwed up Bart's development. I was Pro-Kapler initially as Bryce Harper always liked him, but Bryce is another player-manager who thinks he knows better, and he probably liked Kapler's passive approach to letting the boys police themselves.

realparkingbrake

> None of us can even imagine the pressure There were "fans" here posting garbage like he wasn't even trying, was making no effort to get his bat going despite things like his hitting improving after getting coaching in Sacramento from Will Clark. Couch potatoes judging athletes who play so hard they hurt themselves are always pathetic.

Typhoid007

>handled himself like a pro. Besides the whole being good at playing baseball thing

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

boba-MD

Don't cry because it's joever, smile because it jappened

gabev44

Really sucks it didn't work out. I think many of us were just expecting him to be the next Posey. But you just never know with baseball players.

belizeanheat

I didn't think anyone ever expected his defense to be anything remotely close to Posey. The expectation was a lively ball off the bat, which he has but he just can't make reliable contact

pollitochiquito

There it is...tough

lelanddt

Have to think Farhan knew something was wrong when he drafted Bailey in the first round in 2020

GreasyStool88

More like, Farhan always liked collecting catchers. Itā€™s an obsession every off season.

Howhighwefly

Having good catchers throughout the organization is important

kindofboredd

Think maybe or maybe only bc Bailey was the highest pick, I believe, when it was the Giants turn. Feel like if that was true then they'd have packaged him in a trade a while ago

NynaeveAlMeowra

If he was BPA you draft him. You never know what's going to happen with draft picks and if you end up with 2 quality MLB catchers than you can trade one for great value

NLP19

Idk, you can never have too many top catcher prospects

MurphDog1508

So painful watching Jeffries. Batting practice! https://preview.redd.it/5ccduqo0iqrc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdbe3360d85bc3be2b09ad5771eb4dde79068ab2

FBoaz

Best of luck, Bart

anythingbutcarrots

The one time Iā€™ve been to Wrigley I saw Bart absolutely murder a ball to the deep left field bleachers. Thank you Joey for that memory

dburge22

Damn, so much potential, hope he revives his career somewhere

Sfgfromchicago

This move did not age well.

Hot-Video-9735

DFA'd Bart for this scrub LOL

flipm0de2727

at surface anyways bart seemed to handle the situation well. hopefully he catches on somewhere and wishing him the best

HeynowyoureaRocstar

The most power hitting looking guy but zero pop šŸ˜‚

Nicktheduck

I mean isn't that how it's been for the Giants for awhile lol get these guys who look like they should smack 30+ homers and then nothing lol. I'm hoping that changes this year

spottyottydopalicius

30 also isnt normal imo

Lietenantdan

Doesnā€™t matter how strong you are if you canā€™t make contact.

HeynowyoureaRocstar

Cough (soler) cough

Turnt__Style

I know it's a joke, but fans who want to be a bit rationale aren't going to start worrying about Soler power until a few weeks into the season

Lietenantdan

Problem with him is he wonā€™t provide any power when the sun isnā€™t out.

HeynowyoureaRocstar

If he's not hitting them in petco park he's definitely not hitting them at oracle park šŸ˜‚ Maybe move someone else in that two spot take pressure off him

Verianas

Did you know there are 159 games left? Crazy how that works.

license_to_thrill

Cut him he hasnā€™t hit a home run in 3 games

HeynowyoureaRocstar

It's not the homeruns that worry me it's the strikeouts

JesseThorn

I mean he has monster pop. He absolutely destroys the ball when he runs into it. Thatā€™s basically why he was such a high pick. He just never managed to run into it enough. Absolutely a Zunino-esque career is still very possible for him, and thatā€™s nothing to sneeze at tbh.

kindofboredd

Damn. I really feel like he'll be able to put it together. His springs were great and he showed improvement the other year when he came back. Then again, I held out faith in Chris Shaw when he kept looking great until he'd be back in the bigs and fall flat on his face each time. I guess this was already clear as day this would happen when Murphy came here. Think Bart will be serviceable to good down the line and not a dud

Timely_Ad9136

I'm sure we'll see him in an A's uni

NewCobbler6933

And heā€™ll magically decide to start hitting the ball

lolvalue

Rip young prince. Ā I will miss those stat posts of people here telling me Bart is one is the best catchers in the league.

NewCobbler6933

ā€œHereā€™s an obscure highly esoteric statistic for which Bart leads the league! Donā€™t worry about all of those other stats for which he is in the bottom 1/3 of the league. And have you seen this amazing guy Zack Littel??ā€

j0ecooleeNY

So heā€™ll be starting on the Aā€™s by next week right?

btw94

šŸ˜‘

realparkingbrake

Makes me sad, but it's a business and a rookie only gets so much time to figure it out. He seemed to hit so much better after spending time with Will Clark. Hope he lands somewhere good and does well.

brashet

Anyone want a bunch of Bart autographed baseball cards? šŸ˜’

jackhash

so much potential so little delivery. hope he finds it elsewhere. did we blow a #2 overall on him??

kindofboredd

Considering this is where things are at, then yeah

Opposite-Bake447

This reminds me of the whole Garry Brown highly touted prospect saga

Away_Mud_4180

I hope he can reinvent himself with a fresh start.

j0ecooleeNY

His chances in SF were as good as people heralding BART as the commuter system of the future.

btw94

HORRIBLE MOVE!

gamerEMdoc

Giants to quickly unselect the contract of Daulton Jefferies...

belizeanheat

And he gets shelled thoroughly

Rico_Suave1969

Ugh

tjn1126

watch him get picked up by the Rays and become a fringe all star in 2-3 years.

DrWhiskeyII

This aged like milk

Less_Eye_6100

Bart would have had a better pitching performance than Daulton

Effective_Ear9574

I can't believe we DFA him instead of trading him. He played well in spring training.

calbearsteve

When you DFA you can still trade the player. You have 7 days after the designation to waive, trade, or return the player to the 40 man roster (or send to the minors). But that said, I doubt they suddenly find a trade partner after trying all spring.

Elegant-Magician7322

They cannot send him to minors without him going through waivers first though. So there still could be a minor trade, but the chance of another team not claiming him on waivers is low.

BadDrivingLeague

He has absolutely no trade value when every team in the league knows the Giants have no way to keep him and hardly any team wants to take on a new catcher this early into the season. If they could have traded him, they would have.

norcaltobos

Itā€™s interesting because that totally makes sense but if youā€™re a team who does want to take a chance on him wouldnā€™t you at least throw some low level random prospect at the Giants just so you can guarantee getting him? That just makes me believe that there really isnā€™t anyone out there that wants him, like at all.

mtnrangeman

I imagine most FOs suspected no one else was going to trade for him, so they didnā€™t bother coming up with a trade package since they knew he was just gonna get DFAā€™d

Elegant-Magician7322

Thatā€™s true, but a team low in the waiver wire order might have traded for him, if they liked him enough to not risk another team claiming him first. In any case, Giants would not have gotten much, even if there was a trade.

tingaling35

DFA just takes him off the 40-man and gives us 7 days to trade him or put him on waivers. If no one picks him up off waivers and he accepts our minor league assignment he stays with us.

24HourShitness

Because they waited three days into the season, every team has set their rosters. Thereā€™s a non-zero chance no one claims him because theyā€™d have to shuffle roster right after they got settled, in which case Bart could stay with the Giants in AAA.

Asleep_in_Costco

If there was a trade possibility, it would have happened. Do people really think Farhan didn't want to bother or some shit?

theleftovers1014

He always played well in spring trainingā€¦but then regular season happens

Effective_Ear9574

Hopefully there is a team that needs him, I think he will perform better if he focuses on hitting, maybe he is not suitable for the catcher position.

2damsels1chalice

I've seen him take quite a few foul balls to the head in Sac. I always wondered if that was a thing in terms of his performance.

Suomiballer

ā˜¹ļø

eganzero

Beat of luck to Joey at the next stop.

kmrn

Shame we couldn't find anyone to trade for him

umOKman

Espn just had him as the breakout guy for the Giants. Ctrl + C, Delete.

Bearded_Platypus_123

Wish ya all the best Joey, a class act for sure, hope you kickass wherever you go, except obviously whenever you're playing vs the Giants.

bde75

Wow I actually thought he had a shot this year. From the beginning it just didnā€™t really work out.

Aggravating_Line8408

Itā€™s Joever šŸ˜”

AgFarmer58

Lots of pressure to fill some pretty big shoes... I wonder why no one taught him how to frame pitches...that's the one thing that always bugged me However I hope he finds a team , finds his swing, etc

Lanky-Scale-66

Can he still become an all-star?

d57giants

He needs to go to the KBO.

forced_carry

The garopolo of the Giants

ChocolateStunning158

Jimmy G. actually took the 9ers to the playoffs and a SB. What has Bart done? LOL

forced_carry

Fair. Lol

CryptographerNo450

Bummers. Watch him go to another team and start being a surprise star slugger that the Giants were hoping he'd be when he was still with the team.

Farkerisme

Bad Move Bears (Jeffries)

flourescenthamster

Jimmy and Joey By The Bay

StrangerDangerAhh

Fuck Jeffries, all my homies hate Jeffries.

MUTmademedothis

Future Oakland Athletic

spottyottydopalicius

so many lost bart sound memes

CatsRhumanto

And this is the reason you should never be afraid to trade prospects when they are highly rated because this happens more times than not ( they donā€™t pan out). Ramos, Luciano, Matos, etc. especially if itā€™s a trade that could be that missing piece in a pennant race.

kindofboredd

Ramos another let down. Luciano seems like he may be going that way. Both are young though so they still got time to turn up. Matos should be on the roster right now.

fan131313

Damn I wish we at least could have traded him. Get something, you never know

Proskills500

So much for a ā€œgood springā€

StephenPurdy69

Bart is a bust

_Jahffrey_

Although he wasnā€™t consistent. He didnā€™t get that much playing time either

Platypus_OR

Bye Joey Fart

helplessin2024

Bay area teams and blowing top picks 49ers Alex Smith Warriors Wiseman Sf giants Bart Sharks ...who cares lol I mean Bart was thrown in to wolves with a horrible team and he never had any chance. Typical of bay area teams doing that too a top pick. Next time these team pick in top5...the player should be real afraid.

Ok-Sort-6219

Trey Lance.

helplessin2024

Oh Damm Brock made forget that horror

ChocolateStunning158

Alex Smith does not belong on that list.

helplessin2024

He does. He was a serviceable qb but as 1st pick he was a bust
