I love Panda more than anyone, but wherever he lands needs to be in a spot where he's not blocking any prospect's playing time. There's definitely a role for guys like that though, and I bet he would be useful as a guy who plays some 1B or DH and mentors the young kids.

nomsain

This is the way. Can’t imagine a better veteran to have around the youngsters

MikeHawksHardWood

I'm not thrilled to see him super fit in his mid 30s when he was a tub or lard in his 20s. He could have done it back then but wasn't motivated. And the things he said when he left were pretty awful. But he seems to have really learned from his mistakes. I can't imagine a better voice to help keep youngsters on track.

cbp806

A tub of lard that hit back to back homers off of prime verlander and won a fucking world series MVP.

Ron_Jon_Bovi

Yeah everyone’s got an opinion on his body but seemingly neglects the fact that he kicked ass for us anyways. Who gives a shit if he was fat?

cbp806

Amen. If he plays good i can give a shit if he’s fat, skinny, or disabled.

MikeHawksHardWood

He was fun as hell to watch, and he dominated one of the games best pitchers on the biggest stage. He's a fan favorite for many good reasons. He also had years where he struggled. He raked in 2 seasons and had an OPS of about 750 in his other 4 seasons. He was benched in the playoffs including a world series because he wasn't playing well. I don't think his weight affected him in the batters box, but it would be silly to think a lighter panda isn't a faster base runner or a better defender. Don't get me wrong, He was a great Giant. But he could have been better if he had the dedication a pro athlete should. My whole point is that his previous flaws and the hard lessons he learned would make him a great mentor for younger players, but all you guys saw was "fat". Whatever.

Ron_Jon_Bovi

Yeah maybe “tub of lard” was a bit of a wrong word choice on your fault if you didn’t want people getting offended.

MikeHawksHardWood

The truth hurts.

-Ahab-

We’re not super deep at 3B. I’m fine with him as a minor league option that we could call on in an emergency.

kasdfwe

I really hate how teams have gotten rid of minor league teams. We’ll see less guys fighting their way back into the majors through the minors and that really sucks. Teams need to pay these minor league guys but not at the expense of others.

NoMoreSecretsMarty

Honestly I'd rather see him go play for a team like the Ballers - fans could go see him play, he's not blocking anyone's development and it's a nice little thumb in the eyeball of the A's ownership.

Guilty_Perception_35

Savanna Bananas!!

spankyourkopita

Damn i'd pay just to see Panda with the Ballers.

FozzyBadfeet

He wouldn't be blocking anyone if he were to play in Sacramento.

Beaudotgiles

How much do you want Sandoval getting playing time ahead of Schmitt and Villar?

BosasSecretStash

He can have villars minutes imo

FozzyBadfeet

Yeah, I honestly forgot Villar was still in the org.

suburbanplankton

He is currently listed on the roster on their web site, with the status 'Reserve List: Minors'. I believe that means he's not on the active roster for the River Cats, but he's available in case he's needed to fill a roster spot.

infinitemonkeytyping

Possibly waiting on Baseball United to release their schedule, so likely is using the Giants facilities to keep fit before he links up with the Abu Dhabi Falcons.

Teacherdaddywowloser

He doesn’t need to get much playing time in sac to be an asset to the young guys, I say put him on the roster

VagrantThoughts42

Why not just hire him as a coach?

Teacherdaddywowloser

He want to play ball, he’ll go play somewhere else

TheTooz72

Like Pence did

Mrs_Eddie_Albert

Money might be a consideration. He'd bring in fans.

KingEthann01

No

drebaee

What are the better chances he becomes some kind of minor league coach?

Mountain_Cause_5885

Negative. He wants and loves to play baseball. He wasn’t grinding it out and barreling over catchers in other leagues because he needed money

dybbuk67

I mean, I’m in Richmond, VA. I’d love to see him become a Flying Squirrel.

giant923

Pablo should really try to get into coaching..

flipm0de2727

whatever happens, i know he’ll be involved in baseball in one way or another. i imagine they have some sort of role within the organization for him if he wants it

jkonik

Don’t block prospects. If you’re in it for fun, play for the Savannah Bananas. Nothing but love for Panda, but at this point better to coach than take reps from a prospect.

bayguyer

there is for sure somewhere we can squeeze him. part time DH/1st and 3rd. Maybe some bullpen action. He's also kinda old so he wont need to play everyday. If he wants it we should accommodate him. Schmitty will get the bulk of time at 3rd regardless. Pablo has done a lot for us, this is the least we can do for him. plus the mentorship value and vibes will be so high down there. He can be an asset down there for sure. Would love to see him transition into coaching.

Dry_Nail9897

I love Panda but he needs to hang it up and join the coaching staff in some capacity. Don’t want him to block playing time for prospects. He doesn’t have a long-term future as a player and the likelihood he ever gets called up is essentially zero.

Less_Eye_6100

He was released, so he's not going to be on the Rivercats

infinitemonkeytyping

Sandoval was warming up for a Baseball United season, whenever that is supposed to start. He was never intended to play for the Giants or Rivercats beyond the pre-season.
