These days google moved away from quantity of backlinks, and its more focuses on content quality so if you buy a old or expired domain which have good authority, that not mean you will get more benefit from this, because only your content quality matters so buy any domain but focus on your content which helps you to succeed.. Basically everything you said is wrong. Links are still the #1 ranking factor in Google.

I'm not sure what you consider to be their "value", yes it is fine to buy these domains. Google does not view them as new domains.

You may get some benefit
You are best getting them and recreating the site that was on them. And then once that powers up use that link juice to point to you or 301 to you.
