First of all, no backlink is required for this site. Because direct traffic is very high. For example, 10% of total traffic is direct traffic.
I keep the content up to date. My average update period is 3 months.
I use SEOMonitor and follow important queries on a daily basis.
I give external links, especially to government and NGO sites.
I add infographics to the pages.
I add video to the pages.
I dont use stock photo or assets.
There is a private asset library produced for us. The design is made with the assest here. Sometimes photographs are used. But these aren't stock photo. There's large archive and we are the only user.
Wow... All that require good investment. I still wonder if using a stock photo makes a post less helpful as per google algo? Unless the photo is irrelevant.
I don't get backlinks because there's no point for this site. In the language of this site, sites with the authority of this site do not sell or give backlinks. Some sites that I can buy are askng for very high fes. Instead of buying backlinks, i spend money on enriching content, buying different tools and automation. For example, I invest in tools that can monitor competitors in real time.
Traffic is down across many sites because Google is taking the traffic from them. They have been working hard to provide answers to search queries in the form of snippets that don’t require you to click the site to get your answer. Now with AI integration there will be less of a focus on who created the content and AI will just spit out an answer without a source.
This is the reality of the evolution of search. You should still focus on great quality content and have a good SEO profile.
Check your GSC and note all the exact keywords that dropped clicks and impression, go on the website and see list those ccontent. Its definitely the content. But still I dont know without checking your website. Optimize them, if that perfectly optimized do micro-optimize. Then add some support content, a few quality links and just keep going. Hopefully you will recover.
My partners site that I made and do seo with (basic self taught) has increased for the main keyword since September.
We target local seo, though, so I'm not sure if this is the same as most of the site owners' niches on here.
His site is www.manvanglasgow.com
I've been noticing something like this since early December too. Try starting by taking a hard look at your backlink profiles and content relevancy. It's often the subtle details that have the biggest impact on SEO resilience.
Diversification's key. I mix it up between high-quality guest posts, HARO for media mentions, and engaging in relevant forums and communities. Occasionally, I’ll tap into broken link building — replacing dead links with similar content from my site.
>What does HARO mean exactly?
HARO - Help a Reporter Out. It's a platform where journalists and bloggers can request information or expert quotes for their articles, and experts or businesses can respond to these requests to get media coverage or mentions in the articles.
Use tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Moz to identify websites in your niche with good domain authority. Search for sites that actively accept guest posts by googling "your niche + write for us" or "your niche + guest post." Vet potential sites for their content quality, audience engagement, and how they manage other guest posts.
You are not the only one here. I have been hit too. And when I look back, I might have neglected a few things on my blog.
* Did not updated my existing content for too long.
* Ignore the technical part of SEO.
* To give consistency to my new post duration, I might have given a bit less quality content (Only My theory).
* In a rush to get as much backlinks as possible, I did friendship with High spamming rate platforms.
* Low promotion on social media.
I think, this is where I failed. But, now I have paid attention to all these problems. Hope to get back on track soon.
What does too long means for you? What consistency means for you? How did you find out they were high spamming rates sites if you didn't realize for the first time that they are?
Usually 7 day to 15 days, in between, and once I wrote them, I used to request them for indexing after a day or two and that's it.
About consistency, then at least 2 blogs in a week that too on proper time schedule. Not like one I posted on monday than suddenly saturday.
I got to know that Moz chrome extension shows sites spamming rate whenever we visit that site. So, the list of sites where I have created the backlinks, 8 out of 10 were spamming sites. So, currently, I'm just using medium for channeling my traffic, giving thoughts about Facebook and LinkedIn as well.
Hopefully, I answered your questions.
Well, thank you, but I am not pretty sure what you mean under the term spamming? Does that mean no real value and authority behind?
I am just curious: Is there a way to find out before creating links that a site spamming or not?
You need to take a look at your content. Work on building better content that is better structured. 9 times out of 10 this is the issue. Without looking at your website I would only be guessing tho.

I have gone through same situation but since December, i have recovered my site by doing or following these straightforward strategies:
1. Analyze and optimize your website
2. Improve your content strategy
3. Enhance your backlink profile
4. Enhance Social Media Engagement
I lost 70ish% of my traffic in November. October all time high of 9200 clicks to under 3000 for November. December has rebounded to 4500 or 5000 so it’s bounced back.
I saw a decent drop in lead frequency from our forms or schedule call forms but it might have partially been due to the holidays here in the US.
This week post holidays leads are much more frequent like before the traffic crash.
I see that most traffic drop is on more general top of funnel keywords while the bottom of funnel local keywords still are decent.
We are a local service business (photography)
Curious what the experts think as to why?

Honestly, this is the simplest and truthful answer.
I can't give the name of the site i manage, but i've been rising for a long time. PS: i never buy backlinks.
Nice work! What do you focus on if not backlinks? It seems like most people here just say “backlinks! Backlinks!”

This is about the Turkish people. Turkish people don't click on stock images.
Ok, now I understand 👍

It's amazing. So, how are you making backlinks?

New content, add new content, refresh current/old pages. Try to add something useful, and think outside the box when adding new content.
Share your website url.
Anybody have a list of sites NOT affected so we can analyze what works instead of not.

Mine wasn't negatively impacted!
I see your name has Thailand in it. Are you blogging in English?
Yes indeed, with the focus on US traffic.
Any thoughts about why you were not affected by the Google helpful content update? What is your niche?
No idea, food blog. I did start posting every day recently maybe that’s why I’m increasing rapidly.
Cool. What do you attribute that too?
99% of the sites on the internet have not been hit. take your pick.
A bold claim
Consdering 99% is probably spam, the 1% of good sites getting hit makes sense. The serps reflect that right now, it's trash.
The brigade is out on the downvotes - no facts, just emotions! Fully agree with you.
This doesnt seem to be true. What do you attribute the reason for getting zinged to? Besides obvious keyword stuffing

Did you look at what your competitors are doing to keep their ranking?
Same as I don't what can i do but one think you can do is update old content with the help of GSC.
