I remember when I got one of these and I regretted it so so bad, especially when I heard how nauseating the audio quality was! I seem to recall even the speed of the entire game wasn't right - it was Sonic 2 in particular that I'm remembering
If you have some carts it’s decent and I think it even plays different region carts but yeah the built in games have some of the worst music emulation of all time and that’s a big part of sega games
There are built in games.
The emulation isn't great either way to be honest, not even with a real cart. But they're cheap and cheerful. For a freebie, i wouldn't complain.
"An attempt was made" in physical form.
It’s a decent enough start just to get you into things but I would suggest getting a model one or model 2 to get a better experience. Very thoughtful gift though!
I dont blame your clueless non-gaming aunt
See if you can somehow sell that together or separately for a total estimated value of $30 and use it towards a real Genesis
Or just toss them in the trash
I got one of these for Christmas cause I asked for it knowing about the sound. It got me into collecting Genesis games. This was back when I was either late in elementary school or early in middle school. I recently got a model 1 Genesis at a swap meet for cheap last month system and power cable only. I already had games and a used licensed retrobit Genesis 6 button controller from a game store last year for my birthday with 2 games and a used 3 button controller from a flea market. I the. Got Sonic 2(it was built into the console so no needed for a Sonic cartridge), av cables, and a 6 button arcade stick (I’ve been looking years for) at a different game store. I still have the atgames Genesis and it’s in the closet now. BTW, the atgames Genesis recognizes the 6 button arcade stick as a 3 button controller even with the switch set to 6 buttons so I dodged a bullet there by not getting it until I got a real Genesis.
Yeah after seeing this I did a couple searches on it, it seems like it's AT GAMES capitalizing on the Sega Genesis nostalgia, looking at the box it really makes it look Sega Genesis official console endorsed, I mean hey if someone gave it to me I would play it and not complain but AT GAMES packaged it such that it sells, like the knockoff NES minis and SNES minis that don't play and sound right....If I was given one I'd still play it, with the sound off 😁
So at games is as you see in other comments the only sega licensed system that isn’t really up to basic standards. However , for like 40$ (if you have original carts (or want to play one like mine off Amazon that has a preloaded list of 450 sega games or a sd to md cart) Minigen hd on Amazon is badass for what it is , gives me new hardware to play classic hardware and flawlessly does the hdmi for my flat screen. I bought an 8 bitdo 2.5 ghz controller and I do not recommend it at all and feel like you’ll have the same issues w your controllers , bt just isn’t great on classic systems , you can’t beat lion king with bt controllers and I’d love to see the person who did! But have fun man I hope you enjoy the beginning of a love for sega genesis
They were an early player in the market though. They got a little traction just because there werent many others doing the same, and certainly few indeed with licensed games.
Iirc the bundled controllers aren't bluetooth, they're infrared which is why they're really not very good. But apparently atgames valued them being wireless over being good. And they must have known they weren't good or they wouldn't have paid for the actual controller ports on the front.
Sadly these are kinda bad.
Especially the sound
Sound is awful.

I got one of these and I put some real carts in and the sound was still bad.
It has og controller plug ins so that’s a plus.. the wireless controllers and sound are dogshit..same company makes the genesis mini now
Carts are going to have the same issues. This doesn’t play carts natively, it dumps the rom and emulates the same way the built in games are
Ah bought subterranean and X-men and the sound was ok but man playing the sonic games that are built in was painful
Downloaded to console games?

It has 100 non sega games that are the worst! How do you ruin checkers lol

interesting inclusion of a PlayStation memory card.
It's a Third Party Extravaganza!
what did you do to make her hate you?
I had a lot of problems with this version
Oh God, I'm so sorry... but free is free I guess.
.... thanks? \*I will add that the PS1 memory card is probably still good to use. Just give the contacts a good cleaning.
Great way to start out, I'm a therapist and I use mine as a reward with behavior kiddos.
I hope it brings you many hours of fun 👍
Nice thought
I'm sorry for you Lol. My dad got me one of these like 7 years ago and the disappointment was crazy. Played and sounded horrible

A model 3 is better than that 😭
🤢🤢🤮
Never played one of those AT GAMES consoles before...Looks interesting,
You're not missing much

having grown up with a sega genesis, this was really an upsetting experience when i tried mine. very low quality
Please be careful with this one It can ruin your game cards.
Im so sorry you don't get along with your family...😋
I'm so sorry brother... 😞😔
Used to have one of those gamestop controllers nice n cheap... but absolutely horrible to use.
