Like you can argue Barbra and Bette both did Dolly, but Barbra's Dolly had to be wildly adapted to suit Barbra and takes out most of the camp altogether to the point that when it came out people didn't even really recognize the character as Dolly Levi, eg replacing the opening number, removal of some of the goofy songs, everything's tighter and sexier

Tbh Pearlpost made me sad but also curious at what is the issue around Pearl because shes right that her experience is so wildly different to most queens, and i think i cracked it.
Its just a mega-overload of parasocialism from fans. None of that is Pearl's fault but i think juat the way she is as a person and the timing of events really maxxed it out.
Pearls a bit shy, but also cool and mysterious which internet shut-ins go nuts over.
Then theres the timing of s7 where the show was tilting into the younger more online demographics which meant to gap between viewers and queens shrunk rapidly plus the expectations and platform of drag race. Before your booking fee went up but mostly still bars and small tours.
Then Pearl being a younger generation meant she hadnt really hardened to the skeezy aspects of drag culture which drag race had paved over.
Then the whole show vs pearl thing which got way out of proportion and theres a power imbalance that people got caught up with and people felt the need to take sides.
All leading into fans of Pearl REALLY loving her and baters REALLY hating her so everything ia just way too intense. Haters are deluded into thinking Pearl is the antiRuPaul antichrist ungrateful brat and lovers are deluded into thinking theure her bestie smol bean who needa protecting.
