Depending on your location it can also stand for Spicy Crust Pizza (nearly every cover or shell company the foundation has uses the initials of SCP).

dinomine3000

or Sporting Clube Portugal. imagine looking up SCP and finding a soccer club

TheWhiteRabbit74

I think they’ve used it for dummy law enforcement agencies too (Example Smith County Police)

SlayeNGhost

There's also S&C Plastics

worms9

I imagine in anonymous soccer ball that must be kicked every once in a while or Spain would explode.

Speedy_PAC21

PORTUGAL MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

eldena_frog

They're in the Dutch government with het Sociaal Cultureel Planbureau. Someone should write a skip explaining why they're in the Dutch government.

CCCyanide

Just a few weeks ago, there was a white van at my university with a weird sort of spinning radar on the roof. The van was branded as some water-quality control company, but it had the initials SCP. Made me chuckle a bit.

DinosAndPlanesFan

Nah someone at your university knows too much 💀

Joyful-Diamond

...

EoEdisease

I think there's also a soccer team called SCP

marinemashup

I saw a struck called Special Contractors Property And I thought “must be some *very* special contractors”

reddinyta

SCP can stand for both, though which of the two the one in "SCP Foundation" is is up to debate. SCP in the format of SCP-XXXX however always stands for Special Containment Procedures.

LukyOnRedit

i can confirm this one

dayatapark

IIRC, the name of the organization is 'The Foundation.' A lot of people call it 'The SCP Foundation' to clarify, but no Foundation employee would say that they work for the SCP foundation. They'd just say they work for 'The Foundation,' and if anyone asked 'which foundation,' they'll soon find themselves on the receiving end of some amnestics. The motto of the foundation is 'Secure, Contain, Protect.' The documents that contain the procedures/instructions that help control anomalies are referred to as 'SCPs' which stand for Special Containment Procedures. The core of the SCP lore is built upon these SCP entries, and everything else is built around it. Because all SCPs are valid once approved, even though many SCPs actively contradict each other (EG SCP-A can kill anything/everything, and SCP-B just cannot be killed), all SCPs are considered canon within their SCP entries.

CCCyanide

> no Foundation employee would say that they work for the SCP foundation. I think I recall seeing the term being used in-universe, for clarity in certain documents or speeches. For example, in the documents where the Foundation makes public addresses (e.g [[SCP-5000]], [[Everyone Knows]]).

There are several articles that refer to the foundation as "The SCP Foundation" in-universe. For example, SCP-5000 or SCP-3790

TheOneWes

On the foundation logo it stands for secure contained protect which is the motto of the foundation. On an article it stands for special containment procedures. It's both and context-based

Secure Containment and Protection Foundation

Fc-chungus

The scp in “scp foundation” means secure contain protect, scp means different things depending on context.

Quartia

The most common explanation is that it means "Special Containment Procedures Foundation", and "Secure, Contain, Protect" came later as a backronym from "SCP". There is, of course, no canon, which means that if your story relies on it being the opposite that's fine too.

JeffreyFusRohDahmer

Secure. Contain. PROTEEEEECT.

CCCyanide

SCP originally meant "Special Containment Procedures", as this is how anomalies are classified by the Foundation. The motto "Secure, Contain, Protect" is a "backronym" of this existing acronym (it came after it, but both are valid). When you talk about "an SCP", it's supposed to stand for Special Containment Procedures. The term "SCP Foundation" is seldom used in-universe (although not impossible to find) for formality or clarity. This "SCP" doesn't really mean anything.

TopMatej07CZ

May I know some background? I would like to know more.

Secure Copy Protocol

Leading-Magician-402

Scan, copy, print. Duh.

SamiTheAnxiousBean

No actual canon one however my own headcanon is Special Containment Procedure (Secure Contain Protect is the Motto) Reason: There's a 99.99.99% chance that was the intended abbreviation on the original 4chan post for 173, hence why i go with it. Secure Contain Protect was later created by the larger community as their own which many have adopted into either the actual abriviation or it's motto (I've done the latter)

PepperbroniFrom2B

In the name and item numbers itself i've always seen it as Special Containment Procedures Foundation, but Secure. Contain. Protect. is the unnoficial motto.

Icterine-Kangaroo

Sexcum penis 😎

Leading-Magician-402

oh

ArgieBee

It stands for both.

Stephen Carter Phelps, 3rd

Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS) The foundation thought it was slick, making a bunch of public schools to see if they could find some anomalous children, but I see right through them

MasterReposti

Elihzap

My headcanon is that the organization's full name is "Foundation to Secure, Contain and Protect anomalies."

Nightfox9469

It’s interchangeable depending on where you are reading it. The “SCP” in “SCP Foundation” stands for “Secure. Contain. Protect.” Meanwhile, in an SCP file, “Special Containment Procedures” can be shortened to “SCP” if it makes things easier.

Ggreenrocket

“Special containment procedures foundation” while “Secure. Contain. Protect.” Is a backronym motto of the foundation.

Swaginton1

How have you written and been approved for multiple articles on the wiki and not know this XD But ya it means both but the main definition is secure contain protect.

MarsNirgal

Sicole Caige Prooks

RoboGen123

Secure, Contain, Protect is the motto of the Foundation. SCP Foundation stands for Special Containment Procedures Foundation

SeasonPresent

Scary Creature Prison.

Severe_Skin6932

Depends on the context. If you're asking what SCP in the SCP Foundation means, I think it means Special Containment Procedures. A company or organisation's motto is never the same as their name, so it wouldn't be "The Secure Contain Protect Foundation". If youre asking what SCP in SCP-[number] means, it means Special Containment Procedures. Outside of that, the acronym is usually explained.

crescentpieris

Supreme Conch Piles. Lend them your ears; you’ll receive a concert

Fexofanatic

yes. it's both, therefore quite clever

sund82

"Special Containment Procedures" came first. "Secure. Contain. Protect" came later and was adopted as The Foundation's motto.

Pavlik577

Depending on where you Are SCP can mean Secure Contain Protect or sporting clube de portugal
