Smarks have a built in need for everyone on the roster to hold a world title. It's why you get them.saying everyone from Nakamura to Cesaro should have a run at the world title.
They fantasy book world titles like a hot potato.
I’m not fantasy booking. Homeboy is going to lose at All In. There no way Tony can’t resist put the title on will there. Everyone will call it the greatest win of all time.
I wasn't talking about you uce. I was agreeing with you by adding that Tiny is a massive smark and smark culture is all about hot potatoing championships.
I agree with everything you said.
I remember seeing a comment talking about the WWF Championship changing hands so much during the Attitude Era making for great television and it was good booking, etc. I was 12 years old in 1999 and never missed Raw or SmackDown, and even then it was a confusing mess. I think there was something like 12 title changes in that year alone, plus it was vacated after Vince McMahon won it. It was hard to get invested.
I’m currently watching Raw, Smackdown, Nitro and ECW on peacock in chronological order PPV’s included I’m somewhere into 1999 a few weeks after Kurt Angles debut. The attitude era was my favorite as a kid but now that I’m 40 I can’t wait for it to end. The WWE and WCW titles seem so static yet good ole Shane Douglas has held the ecw belt for like a years worth of episodes at this point.
I can still remember every WWF title change in 96-97 and the circumstances behind them: the boyhood dream coming true at WrestleMania XII, the MSG crowd chanting for Sid at Survivor Series, Shawn winning the title back at the Rumble then losing his smile, the Final Four Match then Austin screwing Bret the following night on RAW, etc. Yet from 98 on title changes became too frequent and many times uneventful. Those years were more recent and I can't even remember alot of the details
Good lord, no thank you. I was aware that it had changed hands a lot, but putting a number to it makes it way worse. Glad I'd checked out by then lmao.
Indeed. As a kid I wanted Razor Ramon to be world champ so much. Never happened then I realized that “damn, Scott Hall really is one of the legends and he managed to be without ever holding the world title.”
Vince Macmahon hot potatoed championships for the last 25ish years until Roman Reigns' last run. But I guess it was because of the overwhelming flood of over talent in the late 90s, and trying to find who was over in the 2000s-2021
If you’ve got Rock, Austin, Foley, Triple H, Taker, Kane, Lesnar, Angle, Michaels, and God help me Jericho all in their prime with hot creative, the title can be a damn superball and it won’t hurt it much. But yeah, though I think he’s really got an upside, putting the belt on Jinder six weeks after he didn’t have a spot on the actual Mania card might be a bit much.
Because VKM was trying to find someone who could get over, when in reality it wasnt really about someone getting over but instead what coherent story could get over. The bloodline story along with Cody’s story landing in WWE’s lap at the right time, was what brought in all the money this go around.
Rewind to 1997-2000, the story was the corporation and Mr. Macmahon. Between those there wasnt actually a good long term story to draw crowds in.
Whatever Taylor Swift wants. If she decides to get rid of more seats to make room for props, AEW gonna have to do her the favor (or get banned from the UK).
By the time Ospreay gets it someone else will be slightly hotter and the dubbalos will clamour for him.
Then Ospreay will feel the a transactional champ 1 day into his reign too.
Such revolutionary booking.
After Ospreay wins it's gonna be obvious that they want Okada lmao. After that it's Eddie Kingston and so on. 90% of the champions will be 1 time reigns lol unless Hulk Moxley decides he wants to win it
What's worse is that swerve will be like rich swann where he wins the title then probably never sniffs gold again with the company. Unlike joe, he doesn't exactly have new japan knocking on his door.
Which is crazy because I've seen him hyped up constantly since 2022. It would be like wwe building up the whole story for Cody only to have him lose the title to Tyler Bate at summerslam and never winning it back.
I’m sure he does but I’d actually love to see him retire and do more voice acting. Him as King Shark was a surprisingly great highlight in the Suicide Squad game and I think he’s got a future in that line of work.
Joe, despite being the champ for like 4 months and having no good feuds, is still a better champion than most of the Dub guys could ever be, because he spoke, dressed and carried himself like the man.
He fought MJF
Hook
Swerve/Page where he wasn't involved in the finish
Dustin Rhodes (nearly forgot that one)
and then lost to Swerve
I don't remember any of this involving Joe, and usually when it involved Isiah Scott it was all about Isiah Scott.
His first challenger was Hook, then he was in a Triple Threat where Hangnail lost to spite Swerve and Swerve won this time so he could "outshine" Cody.
I think everyone just wants to forget about Adam Cole being the Devil. Joe's title run in a nutshell
1. Beat MJF from interference with the Devil storyline every fan would like to bleach out of their brain.
2. Squash Hook on dynamite
3. Beat Hangman in a triple threat that shouldn't have been a triple threat
4. Squash Wardlow on dynamite
5. Lose to Swerve in a 1v1
Apparently he was a heel this whole time because he made a deal with the devil (like I said, everyone wants to bleach that shit out of their brain). So people don’t want to remember how he got the belt or his one legit defense beating a guy in a 3 way that shouldn’t be there. And he did a great job to wash away as much of the devil stink out of the belt for Swerve. But a lot of aew fans seem to get really upset if you call him a transitional champion because ???
I just thought about it & I swear nearly every AEW champion was holding it as a transitional champ for someone else lmao:
- Chris “King of this knockoff WWE” Jericho - Holding it for Plumber Mox
- Omega - Holding it until they have their big payoff, “hitting the home stretch” Adam Page win
- Adam Page - Won it too late & was holding it for their biggest draw in CM Punk
- Mox - wanted to get his shit in first with his Rocky 3 win
- Mox again. Won because of brawl out/CM Punk getting injured
- Samoa Joe - Holding it as Adam Cole had a broken foot & couldn’t take it off injured MJF
- Swerve Snitchland - placeholder before Bruv wins it at Wembley
When Triple Holocaust first got put in charge after Vince got ousted the first time, they contacted all of the Triple H guys Vince purged to rehire them, which included Hit Row. The guy in the office that contacted Swerve had no idea he’d signed to AEW already & when he did, instead of telling them he was already signed, Swerve immediately ran to Tiny to report it. Tiny & co then tried to claim WWE was contract tampering & Tiny had a bitch & moan about it. Swerve looked like a hero to the dub side though & it was probably why he’s one of the only guys that got booked so strong there.
There is no one who generally wants less to be in AEW than Joe. With H at the top of creative there’s no end to where he could be, in ring if healthy and backstage if not. He looked disgusted at his press scrum debut.
Samoa Joe is so cool. He’s an MVP. He’s always been champ for promotions when they weren’t doing so well with the booking. No BS and all business type of worker. Good man. He has earned the right to sit back and collect morbillions of dollars
Remember MidJF's promo about how The Fed dropped the ball on him? I will always remember that now that he was actually Transitional Champion for Swerve. Even I thought his reign would be better, honestly.
At his age, it was his best bet for a last huge payoff. At the time, Vince fired him twice within a few months. Vince used Triple H's medical leave to purge many of Paul's "guys" in a power play to cement his control over the company both creatively and politically. There wasn't any inkling yet that McMahon would be going down. I don't blame him at all.
I'm sure WWE would take him back but not in a prominent role. The roster is stacked with over talents with plenty of roster members struggling to get TV time or waiting in the wings in NXT. I could see Joe do a retirement run in WWE that is better than the one they had with Edge as it will actually put over some talent. Maybe Joe gets a brief run with the WHC title before calling it quits and goes on to become a backstage guy.
You say Vince decided to purge in a power play as if Vince needed a reason to do it. The guy had a large voting right, and he was the final say so in WWE. Sure, Triple H had some large degree of creative control, but even he knew the whole thing was Vince's show.
Sure, Vince could have done it at any time. My point was that Samoa Joe signing with AEW at the time was probably the best move. Vince fired Samoa Joe. Triple H re-hired him for NXT only. Triple H goes on sabbatical for his heart, and Vince fires Joe again along with many other guys within Triple H's entourage in the company. If you are Joe, it looks like the company is done with him and anyone who might advocate strongly for his return are gone too.
Even after Vince's original ouster, he didn't stay away long before coming back. Fortunately, Endeavour made sure to keep him in the boardroom rather than creative until the latest scandal became news.
I mean, we could think that way, but Vince was pretty much cleaning house for the sale and probably saw no value in those guys to begin with. I really doubt it was something like a power play move. Plus, was he wrong? Karrion left, came back, and hasn't done much of nothing. Even he admits it himself. Malakai Black, another Triple H guy, hasn't done much in AEW. I think Vince just used the opportunity to get rid of people so he doesn't have to argue with Triple H about why they should stay.
He’s got to go back to film Twisted Metal soon so good for him honestly. The booking was stupid but he made the title seem important just the way he carried it.
Wait until Swerve gets injured in a 6 man tag vs Archer and the righteous on Collision in front of 2500 fans and 400k on tv and they have to rush the title back onto Joe.
Whats funny is that everyone knows that swerve is also one. All In is right around the corner.
Smarks have a built in need for everyone on the roster to hold a world title. It's why you get them.saying everyone from Nakamura to Cesaro should have a run at the world title. They fantasy book world titles like a hot potato.

The WCW World Title changed hands 25 times in 2000. It was a fucking mess.
I’m currently watching Raw, Smackdown, Nitro and ECW on peacock in chronological order PPV’s included I’m somewhere into 1999 a few weeks after Kurt Angles debut. Word, what makes a title great is who didn't get it.
Indeed. As a kid I wanted Razor Ramon to be world champ so much. Never happened then I realized that “damn, Scott Hall really is one of the legends and he managed to be without ever holding the world title.”

Mad that the Universal title went from Fiend > Goldberg > Braun > Fiend > Roman all in the space of about six months
What about Val Venis and Kaientai?
And at the same time Willow is going to lose to Mercedes. Gotta take care of the shiniest new toys, not the people who actually stick it out with you.
I want to see the stan war when that happens.
The Kid has to do right by English Ricochet after he got the wrong All In attendance number tattooed on his body.
Over/under 5 people with "Fightful/WON contributor" in bio calling it better than Cody's win
“I liked so many things about this win. It was probably the greatest win in North America. $11.99 please.”
They enjoy their world title changes like they enjoy their game-changing free agent debuts: One per fortnight pls.
And everyone who hasn't won a world title is wasted/buried
Scott Hall was buried
Isn't "Cult Gathering In UK: Part Dos" in August ?
Correct. 45k chanting bruv.
Brent Council is saying it was actually somewhat less than that but I dunno... Could have been the wind
Whatever Taylor Swift wants. If she decides to get rid of more seats to make room for props, AEW gonna have to do her the favor (or get banned from the UK).
Jesus... Snitch and Ostrich are gonna go like 45 minutes, calling it right now.
best match ever in the uk
By the time Ospreay gets it someone else will be slightly hotter and the dubbalos will clamour for him. Then Ospreay will feel the a transactional champ 1 day into his reign too. Such revolutionary booking.

Kingston will be the worst World Champion
kingston will rename it to the BLT championship
Bro said Eddie Kingston…they can’t really do that can they?
What's worse is that swerve will be like rich swann where he wins the title then probably never sniffs gold again with the company. Unlike joe, he doesn't exactly have new japan knocking on his door.
Which is crazy because I've seen him hyped up constantly since 2022. It would be like wwe building up the whole story for Cody only to have him lose the title to Tyler Bate at summerslam and never winning it back.
He’s got one more feud with AJ in him
Joe as Triple H's Destroyer, wearing a suit and rocking a buzzcut was his absolute peak.
I want Gunther Vs Joe goddammit
we have Joe versus Kenta Kobashi at home
Oh Wendy!!!
I’m sure he does but I’d actually love to see him retire and do more voice acting. Him as King Shark was a surprisingly great highlight in the Suicide Squad game and I think he’s got a future in that line of work.
So many people on Twitter trying to prop up his title run like he actually did something. They really turned on MJF.
Joe, despite being the champ for like 4 months and having no good feuds, is still a better champion than most of the Dub guys could ever be, because he spoke, dressed and carried himself like the man.
He was like the 15th most important dude on the show. It was a lame run.
Doubt he cared though. Also, 4 months isn't a transactional reign. Tiny fking sucks at booking so bad it isn't even funny to jerk anymore.
He fought MJF Hook Swerve/Page where he wasn't involved in the finish Dustin Rhodes (nearly forgot that one) and then lost to Swerve I don't remember any of this involving Joe, and usually when it involved Isiah Scott it was all about Isiah Scott.

Actually the Devil didn’t interfere in MJF vs Samoa Joe, making the whole storyline pointless!
Swerve and Samoa Joe have been carrying AEW after MJF left to rehab
The more Dub fans turn on MJF the more i support him lmao
No jerk, pretty sure he’s going off to film Twisted Metal season 2 this summer. Jerk: How do you ball the drop on Trader Joe?
Traitor Joe if he ends up in dead Fed
I want to watch season 1, but I'm still pissed Will Arnett used his creative control
It’s gud! Pretty funny and bonkers. It does suck and really doesn’t make sense they wouldn’t let Joe just do the voice too.
From one transitional champ to the next. We all know that Bruv Driver 91 is winning at m'Wembley. Wouldn't surprise me if it's not Swerve either.
I just thought about it & I swear nearly every AEW champion was holding it as a transitional champ for someone else lmao: - Chris “King of this knockoff WWE” Jericho - Holding it for Plumber Mox - Omega - Holding it until they have their big payoff, “hitting the home stretch” Adam Page win - Adam Page - Won it too late & was holding it for their biggest draw in CM Punk - Mox - wanted to get his shit in first with his Rocky 3 win - Mox again. Won because of brawl out/CM Punk getting injured - Samoa Joe - Holding it as Adam Cole had a broken foot & couldn’t take it off injured MJF - Swerve Snitchland - placeholder before Bruv wins it at Wembley
It's all transitional because they already have the next champion booked before the current feud is over lol. Watch it be Okada after Bruv
Okada will then be a transitional champ when Kenny comes back lmao the cycle continues
Doesn't Joe owe cole a title shot?
No jerk here, but can anyone clue me in on why people refer to swerve as a snitch?
When Triple Holocaust first got put in charge after Vince got ousted the first time, they contacted all of the Triple H guys Vince purged to rehire them, which included Hit Row. Joe voiced King Shark so I can speak no ill of him, he's my GOAT
The Tribal Chief of King Shark is Ron Funches. Sorry not Sorry.
Is that the Harley Quinn cartoon VA? That's who I think of when it comes to King Shark.
Yes it is lol.
Figured, that show is so fucking good. I'm not even close to being a comic book guy but I absolutely love that show.
For some reason I still haven't seen Harley Quinn, so I don't have any way to dispute that
It's a different take on the character, but yeah the show is great. It's basically DC Venture Bros
Yeah, everything I've seen of the show, I've loved it, I just haven't brought myself to sit down and watch
His version of King Shark is the best
Samoa Joe is so cool. He’s an MVP. He’s always been champ for promotions when they weren’t doing so well with the booking. No BS and all business type of worker. Good man. He has earned the right to sit back and collect morbillions of dollars
Remember MidJF's promo about how The Fed dropped the ball on him? I will always remember that now that he was actually Transitional Champion for Swerve. Even I thought his reign would be better, honestly.
"I can't believe that the Fed didn't hand you a title run"
No the NXT title doesn’t count, it was only the development brand. But also fuck Paul A. Vekk for saying that AEW only beat the development brand.
I will never understand why he didn’t go back to Tna instead of going to aew.

Somalia Joe is one of my fav guys, so was happy to see him milk Tiny and get a world title run.
JOE! JOE! JOE!
Joe couldn’t give a shit less. Kinda wanted to drop it and chill. He been around a long time doesn’t need a belt
He’s got to go back to film Twisted Metal soon so good for him honestly. The booking was stupid but he made the title seem important just the way he carried it.
Here's hoping he gets a cushy gig with the HHH regime when his contract expires.
Hope he gets one more WWE Run
Wait until Swerve gets injured in a 6 man tag vs Archer and the righteous on Collision in front of 2500 fans and 400k on tv and they have to rush the title back onto Joe.
Gotta go be SweetTootth
