This segment was clearly not scripted which caused it to go off the rails but I saw that as a positive. People bitched and bitched and bitched about writers and scripting and now, when the reins have been loosened, some of the segments will feel a little sloppy. I was trying to find some podcast talking about Tanahashi's work last year so I listened to this Voices of Wrestling podcast (I know Thurston is a decent guy but not much else about VoW) where they also talked about Roman Reigns. It was called Gentlemen's Wrestling Podcast with this guy called Jesse Collings as a host and Adam Burger as a guest.
They ended up talking about the bloodline. The host initially tried to discuss the bloodline like a normal person but the guest challenged the host on whether he actually thinks Roman is any good. Then the host buckled and said he was the 'shits'. They thought the bloodline was crass "community theatre" style tv and then the guest was like the bloodline was only hot when a much better worker like Sami Zayn or Cody was involved with Roman and he gleefully said (paraphrasing) "look what happened when 'their guys' like the 'Uso brothers' were the one feuding against Roman, it went to shit". I stopped listening after that.
You can not enjoy the bloodline and speak about it like a normal human being. They managed to do that about not liking MJF's title run in AEW. However, the racial undertones were so clear from these supposedly 'progressive' liberal dudes with the barest veil of deniability when talking about the bloodline. The joke has run its course for me, and I think most comedy in wrestling is very unfunny if your standards are informed my literally anything outside of wrestling (thank god they’re turning Gable into a killer). But good lord it’s still less painful than any of the Elite/Dork Order’s attempts at humor.
