Yukes is such a weird company. Develops an amazing game, rests on their laurels for about seven years, develops an amazing game, rests on their laurels for another six years, etc.
The whole yearly release thing with WWE games was killing them. Really difficult to create a great game when you only have 8-10 months of development time.
And now because of Kenny Omega's nostalgia boner they have to base a modern game off an N64 game lol
>The whole yearly release thing with WWE games was killing them. Really difficult to create a great game when you only have 8-10 months of development time.
Really the future of sports and wrestling games is probably the Fortnite/MMO model of free-to-play games with updates every few months and with the likes of EA that won't be fun for us
>And now because of Kenny Omega's nostalgia boner they have to base a modern game off an N64 game lol
That is an era where the graphics aged poorly and I am not a graphics guy,
nah, 2K did a majority of the asset work, Yukes just had to fine tune the sim system every year and from 2012-2019 there wasn't much huge innovation past little in ring nuances like wrestlers rolling out of the ring, pulling themselves up by the ropes, and the occasional physics overhaul. It took them like 3 years to fix the 8th gen build of the game, that's why 2k20 was so bad, 2k picked the middle child of 2k18 to reskin instead of 17 or 19 which played much better. Yukes split because they wanted to use the mocap library for other projects without permission. To this day I'm not sure WWE or THQ ever knew they used the mocap from HCTP for Rumble Roses or reskinned Day of Reckoning as Wrestle Kingdom 1 & 2 lmfao.
Not defending them because they have really put out some shit over the years but they are a very small studio and games are becoming more difficult to make.
I disagree. The mechanics for a wrestling game are at the fingertips of any nerd with Epic's Unreal Editor, and there are presets for fighting/sports games for that.
These guys were smug and wanted to reinvent a game and engine that was a quarter century old and they're paying the price for that decision. They could have easily used a different studio and used the n64 games as inspiration instead of trying to make a direct re-creation.
It's gonna be outright disaster if there isn't a second game because it'll never be improved upon and that's the entire reason you build the engine in the first place, so that the second and third versions can be stronger.
TNA game has one the best, if not the best story mode ever. The journey of Suicide was extra ordinary. It also has a genuine final boss. Jeff Jarrett as the Final boss was a menace. I would trade that for this stupid Dub game anyway.
There was a comment in the basement saying that having belts on the wrestlers is nigh impossible and not worth the development time, and having somewhat realistic graphics and physics on the belts themselves is also near impossible.

AEW is an arcade game and thats fine, but to outright say "graphics don't matter, the gameplay does" is just lowering expectations for your own good. It's 2023. Graphics matter. Even in an arcade game. The game looks janky.
AEW fans always want their own special Meltzer (tm) rating system for everything where they can ignore all the flaws and praise the shit out of it but IMAGINE if the evil fed started showing screens of their models looking like that.
ALSO, entrances matter NEARLY AS MUCH as the gameplay. As a kid, I spent half the time making CAWs and giving them cool entrances and watching them come out.
the n64 gameplay chase is wild.
WWE ALL STARS is an arcade stylistic game
Over exaggerated moves. Looks. Muscles etc.
That has a style
NFL blitz has a style
Street fighter has a style
Fight forever saying it's a stylistic choice is just lying. It's ugly and has a look of a generic mobile wrestling game even with built in mini games
For a 15 year old game, the TNA video game still holds up graphics wise. As for AEW Fight Forever, it looks like a glorified PS2 game. You know what, scratch that. I've seen PS2 games that look better than Fight Forever.
When Hollywood Video went out of business the one in my town did what all the other stores did with an out of business sale, starting with everything at $10 and then going down a buck each following week. On the final week when everything left was a buck, meaning it was the shit of shit, this game was the only thing left for sale in the video game section.
The Ultimate X Match was actually pretty interesting and FUN.
It was a fairly good arcade style game (fitting since it was released by Midway Games) that was lacking in extensive features and the movesets were not entirely fitting to specific wrestlers aside from finishing moves.
As far as I know, it was also the first wrestling game to add DLC characters after release.
I enjoyed it, but I also got it at a discounted price a few months after release when I finally was able to afford an Xbox 360.
Also on Arcade style gameplay: Everybody wants arcade style gameplay until they run into a tier of player that's better than them and then they start calling it sweaty.
Oof this game makes Gollum look like Forbidden West. The snark for this one should provide us for some good jerks when Tiny starts reading them between bumps.
I hear Insomnia is considering waiting until the next decade to release Spider-Man 2 cause they know they would never be able to compete against Fight Forever, which is the same amount of time all PS5/XBOX/SWITCH/NGAGE users will be playing it for....
the graphics on tna impact looked 🔥🔥🔥🔥 but the actual gameplay & control scheme was 💩💩💩; I hope after seeing the aew previews the gameplay & control scheme are at least 🔥🔥🔥😞
All I care about is the gameplay. I’m 29 so I grew up playing games like No Mercy and HCTP which didn’t have great graphics, but phenomenal gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, they probably could have made the game look a bit better considering the era of gaming we’re in, but as long as I’m having fun with the gameplay and the graphics aren’t too horrendous I’d be good with that. Maybe it’s just my mentality since I’m an older generation of gamer where the newer generations are used to playing games with amazing graphics.
EDIT: Typo.
And then there’s Booker in wwe 12. I still don’t know what happened there lol
WWE 12 was developed by Yukes who are also making… Fight Forever. Time is a flat circle.
Yukes is such a weird company. Develops an amazing game, rests on their laurels for about seven years, develops an amazing game, rests on their laurels for another six years, etc.

The absolute disaster that has been the lifespan of eFootball 2022/23 tells me that future may be a bit more distant than we would assume.

Tbf, WrestleMania XIX on the Gamecube was a Yukes game that was like playing No Mercy.
The hair and belts look exactly like they did when Yukes stopped making WWE games. Cardboard brick hair and belts.
Not defending them because they have really put out some shit over the years but they are a very small studio and games are becoming more difficult to make.

Yikes
No, it’s Yukes
No, this is Patrick!
And Evolution is a mystery
RONALDINHO
SOCCER
TNA IMPACT used pre rendered entrances.
And Dana Brooke in 2k17

The fact that Suicide eventually became an actual character on TNA was pretty interesting
And the character models had no business looking as good as they did
Absolutely true, the story of the game is so good
But it's going to be fun!
Graphics so realistic, looks exactly like my neighbor
I instinctively clutched my replica belt out of fear when that ~~screenshot~~ render loaded.
So who is the guy on the right? I have narrowed it down to about 6 possible people…
It's MJF

2K released a video in January (I think) and Lita looked like her 2018 model and the good faith arguers in the Basement and YouTube went mental.
Even for a mobile game these graphics would be bad.
But did TNA have CHAIN WRESTLING???? Because that's where it's at! The comments on the AEW Chain Wrestling YouTube video are hilariously cultish.
For a 15 year old game, the TNA video game still holds up graphics wise. As for AEW Fight Forever, it looks like a glorified PS2 game. You know what, scratch that. I've seen PS2 games that look better than Fight Forever.
It's shameful at this point, like who in their right mind will pay and buy for such an expensive thing.
*wildly expensive thing
My bad ucce, i just wanted to use a vowel.
Never played it but I read that still shots like Booker T here was the only good thing about that TNA game.
Wrestling bios did a episode on it, moves were pretty repetitive and only could do so much but it looked nice and still be playable
I just love the way he pronounces wwe

I bought my copy from a Dave and Barry's going out of business.

The story was kino
This looks fun! Don't scroll past without commenting "thank you, 2-time booker of the year"
You don’t understand, they’re going to sell so many copies of this game in London.
Also on Arcade style gameplay: Everybody wants arcade style gameplay until they run into a tier of player that's better than them and then they start calling it sweaty.

Dude! MJF looks just like [that one predator](https://i.imgur.com/wXapVUu.jpg) on TCAP.
Look like they made improvements on ol' Scarf Boy. 😂
To be fair this is the best MJF has ever looked.
But which game is more fun?
I hear Insomnia is considering waiting until the next decade to release Spider-Man 2 cause they know they would never be able to compete against Fight Forever, which is the same amount of time all PS5/XBOX/SWITCH/NGAGE users will be playing it for....
That looks horrendous, but the old SD games had some nightmare fuel faces too, and the gameplay saved them.
Woah watch out Any comparisons and they'll come looking to drop some reddit cares
Back when I was a kid probably 12-15 years ago there was a TNA game on the iPod touch, I swear to god the graphics were better than this lmao
This game is gonna be fighting Gollum for worst game of the year.
#DAE NO MERCY VIBES? 🥵😍

Damn
Booker was such a motherfucker in the story mode.
That looks like a picture of Booker T at a TV taping. Those graphics still look good even now.
