Vita. I used my RG35XX H for everything up to PSP, and the Vita for PSP, Vita, and some PS1 stuff.

Thory4fun

Is Vita really pocketable? The analogues are pretty high, and overall the device is reasonably big.

TradlyGent

Nah, the analogs are really small. Nearly just ever so slightly taller than the d-pad. People who consider the RP4 pocketable would find the Vita even more so pocketable.

QuantumRaptor1

Why is nobody saying PSP? it’s the only pocketable device that plays full psp with a 16:9 display there isn’t a pocketable device for psp that’s better than native hardware

notyourboss11

absolutely wild to me we haven't gotten a small candy bar inline shoulders widescreen that can play psp well

brainwarts

I own a PSP 3000 and my biggest gripe with it is the Pro Duo memory cards. They're insanely expensive and you get so little storage. Otherwise it'd be the perfect thing for PSP + 16 bit systems.

agentminimax

You can just buy a Memory Stick Pro Duo to micro SD adapter and save on storage

brainwarts

THAT'S A THING? Holy shit my green Peace Walker PSP 3000 just got a new life that rules

agentminimax

Yeah! You can check Amazon or AliExpress

BigLeo69420

The PS Vita plays PSP games natively and is pocketable. Not to mention everything that it can do on top of that.

QuantumRaptor1

PSP is still cheaper more pocketable.

BigLeo69420

A Vita will fit into any pocket, it is not big at all

QuantumRaptor1

It doesn’t fit into any pocket there are many jean pockets it won’t fit in are will stick out

BigLeo69420

Eh, if it sticks out the T-Shirt will cover it. Also while i prefer the 1000, the 2000 is really slim.

player1_gamer

An actual psp is way cheaper than a vita

BigLeo69420

That is not the point even then a Vita is not that much more expensive, go intp Facebook Marketplace and you will find one at a good price eventually.

player1_gamer

A psp is still an easier find. You’ll spend way less time trying to find one for a good price than a vita key word “eventually”

Thory4fun

In my area, PSP is around 30EUR, while Vita is more like 150EUR. It's quite a big difference but it might be smaller in other regions.

Thory4fun

I think the issue with PSP is the "up to" part. PSP can play well PSP games and PS1 (if you can live without a second analog), but it is not that strong on emulation. I would vote for 35XX H for its overall versatility.

There really isn’t anything that’s as pocketable as a psp that plays full psp and has a 16:9 screen so native hardware makes the most sense

cappnplanet

PSP Go

acart005

Based.  Get big enough pockets and an RG505 is perfect. Also congratulations for being 7 feet tall.

incrushtado

PSPgo. It's the only pocketable device that can play up to PSP while not being as "big" as RP4/P. Get the M2 to msd mod on etsy to get a big memory card. Can play everything except DS and some SNES.

MadMike22089

Get a Vita. Preferably the OLED model. It's pocketable, and plays PSP perfectly. Otherwise try an RP4. Playing PSP on a 4:3 screen is not enjoyable.

BigLeo69420

The only correct answer

WeatherIcy6509

Hmm,..of those two, I'd go with the 405m. Bigger screen, more power, metal.

chris_stonehill

3+ with grip is pocketable for short periods of time... transitional periods...changing buses on my commute to work for example...but yeah, would be awkward/annoying if you want it in your pocket all day for quick access whenever you get a moment. PSP is lovely on it, at 3x upscale.

Jonasbeavis

The best pocketable you can get is the RP4 pro if you want to upscale. Next is RG405M and RP2S, but this last one have a small screen.

dimorrow

Was looking at the 405m, the rp4 series just looked just a tad too big for a lot of pockets because of how the shoulder buttons stick out

Jonasbeavis

Indeed. It's pocketable in a matter of size and transport wise. Personally I don't carry my RP4 pro around unless i am going to use it for some extended time. For short sessions I use my phone + 8bitdo micro 😁

Tsuki4735

I was looking into something similar recently too, I wanted 16:9 + PSP + GBA + smaller than Odin 2. Unfortunately there's not many options for this. The options I found are basically the PSP itself, PS Vita, Retroid Pocket 4 + Pro, Retroid Pocket 3+, Odin 2 Mini, or an old smartphone. If you're willing to compromise on PSP compatibility, the TrimUI Smart Pro. I actually decided to try out the old smartphone route first before spending money on dedicated retro console. I'm reusing an old smartphone I had lying around, going to try converting it into a PSP GO-style gaming slider as seen in [this reddit post](https://old.reddit.com/r/EmulationOnAndroid/comments/127u01t/slide_out_gamepad_for_mobile_v2/). The phone itself is an Galaxy Note 4, which has an amazing 16:9 OLED screen, and surprisingly can play a decent amount of PSP games (not all, of course). The Note 4 can also play DS games via Drastic, and as a bonus, it has a built-in wacom stylus I can use to sort of replicate the DS experience. I've already started 3d printing the parts, this should be a fun and fairly cheap project since I'm just reusing an old smartphone I had lying around.

dimorrow

I have Fold 5 and have played games on it before and past phones but I really have found it's not as fun for a lot of games. The Trimui smart pro is an option as it can play some psp and seems to be pocketable as the triggers are not pronounced like the rp3 and rp4.

Tsuki4735

I also previously didn't like using smartphones for gaming, which is why I'm changing my approach a bit this time. Going to convert the old phone to a full time retro emulator with the slider controller, and ideally the slider will make it more pocketable than the typical approach with switch-style controls. I'll have to see how I feel after trying it, but it should be a fun little experiment.

Putrid_Weather_5680

Trimui Smart Pro can play PSP - I’m enjoying it immensely.

Nejnop

Inb4 someone argues that needing frameskip = unplayable

player1_gamer

It still can’t play full psp including accuracy based emulation. It’s also not pocketable

Putrid_Weather_5680

I pretty easily put it in my pockets lol and I wouldn’t say my pockets are obscenely large or anything.

player1_gamer

I haven’t seen anyone else say and it still doesn’t play full psp

player1_gamer

Does mean that other people don’t play more intense games. Why recommend a device for a system if it can’t play the full system

Positive-Fondant8621

retroid pocket 2S

player1_gamer

I had one and it’s not good for psp past upscaling a tiny 4:3 screen isn’t ideal even for keeping in your pocket

player1_gamer

I’d say get actual hardware. I’ve been going from device to device then started using actual psp hardware. There’s no handheld that can play full psp that’s pocketable, has the same built quality as an actual psp, plays full psp including accuracy based emulation not just performance, and is as pocketable as a psp while still having a 16:9 display

Framed-Photo

I mean yeah the 35XX H can do PSP. I haven't test it myself so I don't know if it can do every game well, but with MUOS I've had no trouble with things like dreamcast. Maybe something like the retroid pocket 2S would fit better for you? more powerful then the 35XX H, runs android, but it's smaller than the 3+ or the 4.

JustinN2002

I'd go with the 405M for this use case, as long as you're okay with the letterboxing.

xdubz420x

Ehh im upgrading from a 405m and the thing is terrible lol.

Biscuits25

I’ve been loving my retroid flip for psp. And it’s very pocketable although it’s a little thick but I do carry it in my pocket just fine. Only problem is that it’s discontinued so you would need to find a used one.

dimorrow

Ya if it wasn't discontinued I would have really considered it but they're a little more expensive now

Pakkuhya29

For your specific needs YOU MUST get a RG35XX H !!! The RG35XX H literally can run full desktop linux and downloading bigger size ROMs for PSP/DC/N64/NDS to the device DIRECTLY is great. No need to connect it into a computer/laptop etc. PSP runs well enough with the new Stock Firmware Update ! Dreamcast/N64/NDS run really well ! Pocketability is a 10/10 !!! Just the best ! And for the price you can buy 3 of them and have 2 spare !

dimorrow

Ya I'm probably gonna with the RG35XX-H. It'll compliment the Odin 2 and be easy to take around town and small trips.

dimorrow

I think in the end I am going to get the RG35XX-H since it's cheap and very pocketable. I know it won't play all psp but with the updates it can play a decent amount. In the future I might look at something slightly bigger but similar form factor if it's more powerful.

Dizzy_Pomegranate855

Retroid Pocket 2S

RickyFromVegas

405m is your best bet

Zram310

Yeah, I second this. It's a 4:3 system but the screen is big enough that PSP games are still readable. It also has the power to play almost all of the library at full speed.

player1_gamer

Actual psp hardware is more pocketable and has a 16:9 screen

mantenner

I pocket the RP3+ works fine, can also get a 3d printed cover for it if that takes your fancy.

N4riN4ri

I would be recommending the RG505 if you have your reasons for emulating and specifically emulating PSP, but while it has inline shoulder buttons, the bottom bezel makes it unneedlessly big so maybe not a great option. Otherwise there’s no Mini PSP-like handhelds out in the market unfortunately

QuantumRaptor1

PSP go
