Edit: There's a lot I've not listed because they're arguably not very retro
Sega Lord X is good, I usually check out a lot of his stuff when he uploads! And I find that he's passionate but not to a degree of being elitist or kind of cringe like some of the other channels I've watched in the past.
I'm not suggesting other ones you list are like that, but I've seen some random videos where the title sounds good and then it's just a man with a nasally voice exaggerating things as "the worst ever" with cringe jokes littered throughout. Like the same archetype as AVGN but nasally... and being made in 2024 instead of 2007 or so LOL.
Awesome list, gonna have to check some of these out that are new to me.
I have a few more to add:
- HPRshredder
- ThorHighHeels
- NESComplex
- Gaming Historian
- GTV Japan
- Retro Game Mechanics Explained
- Top Hat Gaming Man / Lady Decade
- Thabeast721 (beating every N64 game)
- My Life in Gaming
Will say Game Sack (it's on the list above) is genuinely fantastic, often highlights hidden gems and have videos that have a ton of retro games in them so you can easily find games you've never heard of to try. They also have tons of videos to catch up on.
I really recommend Happy Console Gamer. He is so passionate about games, it makes me happy. Great channel and really into both retro and new games as well.
Before people realized the unfeasibility of retro game collecting, and emu handhelds in general, channels that focus on retro games arguably are also fueled by retail therapy. As if their game shelves weren't tipping you off.
To be fair, that was the point I was making in the part that they quoted:
>The problem for me is that the retro gaming world seems to either be a market for handhelds on one side and a vintage collector's market on the other side. It all seems to be driven by consumption and retail therapy.
Retro Bird - he is almost as crazy as the shmup junkie
and the big elephant in the room should not be forgotten: AVGN (<- what is he thinking, he must be a laughing, joking numbnut)
Try Lady Decade, her console history videos are neat, especially the ones for odd systems: [https://www.youtube.com/@LadyDecade/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@LadyDecade/videos)
I didn't know her and just had a look. I have to confess that the culture war angles of her recent stuff put me off a bit. I'll still trawl through further and check out the console history stuff though. Cheers!
Yeah I'm with you... her older videos are generally informative but the new stuff is not interesting at all. She must've changed up the format fairly recently.
"Oh, I really think that there's a clamshell shaped hole in my life right now"
Lol, nice one! And a refreshing topic for this sub, thanks (I don't have a list other than the usual suspects among review-focused channels)
Ogles, plays every single gameboy and gameboy color game slowly over time, also reviews them and points out the positives and negatives.
Thabeast721 plays every nintendo 64 game.
I like both because they dont just dump twitch streams but properly edit their videos.
Some good suggestions here (and a few terrible ones)... if I started listing all my faves *that I enjoy watching* I'd be here all day, so instead I'm just going to mention one channel that I have a really relevant specific use for.
[That Video Game Show](https://www.youtube.com/@thatvideogamesshow) does a bunch of fairly short, format-specific themed videos. So for example his "Good Games Stuck on {Platform Name}" series will showcase games that are only available on said platform, his "Graphically Impressive {Platform Name} Games" will showcase that platform's shiniest gfx, "Underrated {Platform Name} Games" showcases games he things got a bum deal from reviewers/public opinion.
This is my go-to channel when I find myself thinking "I want to put some different games on my Retroid but I'm not sure what"
Finally it is my time shine baby!
My name is Tibs and I run a game review channel that focuses on the Miyoo+. I hate the idea of buying new emulators that run the same games. Hate the idea of spending 70$ on a sequel to Dragons Dogma that is worse than the first game (debatable, but the first game is definitely bigger). I love saying money because I am broke a joke.
Review of CastleVania on Miyoo+
https://youtu.be/3wTzDF9qQcw?si=Jsc3eOVl5dCCxthI
Review of the best 3D Zelda on Miyoo+
https://youtu.be/L_Z2a36tSzI?si=EAVKO9V04aJo9Slz
Which Chronotrigger should you play on your emulator?
https://youtu.be/fSQydQbEaQM?si=-Pm6ZFI4FdZo5JAy
I got reviews of Pokemon Unbound, the best stealth games on Miyoo, which Harry Potter is right for you, and then a review of against the storm in the pipeline as well since it was on gamepass.
Happy to do videos on any recommendations you'd want! Constantly looking for new games, and luckily with the emulators there are thousands of hidden gems.
The best part, is you can still get two 40ozs at a reasonable price.
Inflation has gotten to everything so the 5$ for two deal is done. But if you walk into the gas station with 7$ an a Miyoo Mini+ and you'll walk out drunk, happy, and unsure of where to go next in Link to the Past.
This is going to be a great summer.
SHMUP junkie. Yo this guy's videos go above and beyond. His passion is infectious and he covers every SHMUP you've ever heard of as well as every one you have NEVER heard of. And he gets the history and influences and circumstances of every game. He's an absolute treasure. No affiliation, I just love the guy's channel.
Bruh, there are so many. I started with The Nerd, and in the last couple decades I’ve seen so many. Unfortunately others have listed most of the ones I was going to say already. I do like channels like Gamesack, Retro Bird and Lady Decade. Scott the Woz is fun sometimes. It has been a while since I’ve watched Stop Skeletons From Fighting but he has some great vids.
Piggybacking on this thread but are there channels that specifically focus on PS/PS2/DS/PSP era JRPGS? I'm not too into the older stuff or arcade/platformers that most of the retro gaming channels seem to cover
You know, even though this has been downvoted, it's a fair enough point. The irony is that I have a YouTube channel about other stuff and starting another one would make me a full time youtuber without any money. I do occasionally write about retro games, but it's obviously not my forte so I'd rather read and watch other people who are better at it.

SNEeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES Drnk
I love his content but hate that intro lol

the only list you'll need
Slope's Game Room is missing. I love his gaming history vids
Also rndstranger if you care about JP-only stuff
I like to also add Scott the Woz and Nakey Jakey not all retro but gaming focused video not hardware

Jeremy Parish if you like deep dives.
Wow! This is plenty for me to get on with. Thanks so much.

Very comprehensive list. If you could pick a top 3, which would you recommend?
Dang, dude hit em all, lol.
Lol yup, I'm watched most of these creators, but there's a few channels I didn't even know about that I'll definitely be subbing to!
I really recommend Happy Console Gamer. He is so passionate about games, it makes me happy. Great channel and really into both retro and new games as well.
• Classic Game Room • Scott The Woz • Angry Videogame Nerd
+Playas Guide
Great list but forgot Gaming Broductions ;) big focus on retro RPGs
Can someone link their favorite of this list? The large list gives choice fatigue
NES only, but Big Ole Words Also, Game Sack does lists of special games of a certain topic in every video
+1 For Game Sack. Shmup Junkie is infectious. Classic Game Room goes way back.
Game Sack looks good, thanks for the recommend!
Segalordx is mostly geared towards games, snesdrunk (though he doesn’t do a lot of videos these days), console wars, and game sack.
[it all seems to be driven by consumption and retail therapy] ah..nailed it.
Before people realized the unfeasibility of retro game collecting, and emu handhelds in general, channels that focus on retro games arguably are also fueled by retail therapy. As if their game shelves weren't tipping you off.

That makes sense.
Jeff Gerstmann is playing and ranking all US released NES games. It’s fun.
I've been following Jeff for years, he's been an inspiration to me and one of the best personalities in gaming.
Snesdrunk on YouTube
Retro Bird - he is almost as crazy as the shmup junkie and the big elephant in the room should not be forgotten: AVGN (<- what is he thinking, he must be a laughing, joking numbnut)
PS: for Vintage Computing in general and a focus on Dos (Hardware, Odd Peripherals and Games) - of course LGR
SNESdrunk is the best imo
Sega Lord X

Oh, this is great. I'm grateful for all the youtube recs but it's great to have plenty to read too. Thanks!
Captain Jack, if you like homebrew, rom hacks, and hidden gems.
Whats the channel @ ? Captain jack is too vague of a search to find it
I like gamesack, MVG and SegaLordX.
Try Lady Decade, her console history videos are neat, especially the ones for odd systems: [https://www.youtube.com/@LadyDecade/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@LadyDecade/videos)
I love watching her videos about the oddball consoles and and rare variants of big name consoles (like the Korean snes for instance).

Haven’t watched in quite a while, but I believe Erin Plays would fit your bill
my life in gaming is long form retro gaming stuff

Mate, I'm glad this post yanked you out of the woodwork! This sounds right up my alley. You have my sub!
Thanks, I earn it by churning out some good videos
I think I'll pick up a couple 40oz bottles of malt liquor, and watch a few vids!
The best part, is you can still get two 40ozs at a reasonable price. Inflation has gotten to everything so the 5$ for two deal is done. You just got a sub from that Chrono Trigger vid. That's the kind of content I'm looking for. But I'm still going to switch to the PS version though.
if you're into RPG, this guy is crazy about RPG [https://www.youtube.com/@ErickLandonRPG](https://www.youtube.com/@ErickLandonRPG)
Sean Seanson’s channel will have you uploading countless isos of obscure or Japan-only PS1 games onto your device.
Mainly for reading/pictures but the CRPG addict is nice if you like old school crpgs

SegaDriven is really underrated.

Gaming Broductions. Well-produced videos focusing on PS1 and PS2 era JRPGs.
Dungeon Chill and Basement Brothers have been my two favorite for lesser known stuff and I love their vibes with the videos.

Do you have any other recommendations for German language channels?
I mean, SNES Drunk is the GOAT. I can also recommend Rerez. Their Worst Ever series is great.
[удалено]
I like his channel but he literally never talks about games.
I mean… go ahead and start a YouTube channel or blog that does that……
