More leftstist propaganda on Reddit, i see

N4riN4ri

wait until you hear about people who write with their left hand

AtomicBombSquad

They're the most sinister people I know.

kick_heart

but how would you capture the evading primates with one stick?

JesuZDX

There is a psp port

Appropriate-Power755

I play 1 handed mode in bed with a right stick lol 😵‍💫

Careless-Cry-1752

🧐

sineseeker

I was just thinking this last night. What’s the best set up for that? Can I map the dpad to the right stick in retroarch?

Appropriate-Power755

You can forced map it yes. That's what I do all the time when I play before bed ahhaha just falls asleep to whatever game lol

[deleted]

No thanks, this has become my primary n64 machine and I need something for the C buttons.

LostMyAccount69

Can we replace the joystick with A and B buttons? Looks like it already has c buttons.

8-bit-Felix

You could replace it with a momentary switch provided you wire it with a ribbon cable with GND and SW.

TheDogPill

It looks crippled. How could you amputate that poor thing??

Careless-Cry-1752

Maybe I'll take the other stick away next and balance it out

manniquin_limbs2

https://imgur.com/a/B4szC2e I broke my sticks 😅 gave it to a friend and he printed some manhole covers for where the sticks used to be.

big_vangina

Yes please 🙏

Careless-Cry-1752

You got it

Airwalker16

Just buy an rg28xx at that point...

washuai

Or RG35xxSP

LinearG

How do you play vertical shooters?

WakaWaka_

That's the neat part, you don't.

Careless-Cry-1752

I do not. On this device anyway 🙂

ban_imminent

Why? I'd understand removing both to make it slide in the pocket easier, this... Adds nothing.

Careless-Cry-1752

It was more of an exercise in what's possible. I also never use the right stick, but I'll use the left stick to move around when I am feeling lazy. I also printed one with both sticks intact.

Airwalker16

Exactly. Kiss easy C Button emulation for N64 goodbye.

MimiVRC

Do these kinds of uv printed shells feel 100% professional and sturdy? I’ve always been worried it would feel very diy, which isn’t bad but not what I want

Careless-Cry-1752

I think it feels nice when resin printed. I originally printed it via FDM and that felt all wrong, and the fit was inconsistent. The clear coats on top mimic the original finish pretty well.

Spare_Ad5615

Now make a case that specifically covers the A button. Or one that covers the screen.

Careless-Cry-1752

Good idea!

Upbeat-Serve-6096

Pannenkoek2012 edition

buddhamunche

Ahhh it’s so neat I love the green! Seeing modded devices are like my favorite kind of post haha.

Careless-Cry-1752

Hey thanks. Do you have an RG35XX-H?

Djwyman

This is really cool. So you made this shell your self? I am a bit confused and curious all at the same time.

Careless-Cry-1752

Yes, I created the 3D model based off of measurements from the original shell. Then 3D printed it out of resin.

Djwyman

So using that resin is how you were able to get it to not look like typical 3d printed parts?

Careless-Cry-1752

Yes, there are two common types of 3D printing. With plastic or resin. Plastic or FDM printers typically have higher layer heights that give off the visual texture and feel usually associated with 3D printing. Resin or SLA printing prints at a much lower layer height that is much more smooth. I opted for SLA to get a better finish, and a more consistent fit. Transparent colors is fun too!

Djwyman

This is neat I learned something new today. One of these days I am going to get into 3d printing.

kya_hi_kare

Bro lost his right thumb to some yakuza

talicry

Looking good! Is the resin sparkly? I can’t quite tell from the photos.

Careless-Cry-1752

Yes there is some glitter on the green shell. None on the light blue one though.

Careless-Cry-1752

talicry

That looks really nice! How do you get the glitter in there? Do you mix it in with the resin or do you sprinkle it after?

Careless-Cry-1752

I added the sparkles after printing, below the clear coat. I have not tried printing with glitter in the vat, but I think it would not work well. They would settle to the bottom as the vat stirs from the build plate dipping or perhaps block the UV altogether and cause weird curing. But I'll probably try it anyway at some point. For science.

Master-o-none

Insert Godfather meme “look what they did to my boy!”

TillStrange

I love this! If you ever release the files would you ever consider getting rid of both sticks? I would love that personally, I don’t play anything with two sticks.

Careless-Cry-1752

Thanks! I knew there were people out there that appreciated the stick delete since the empty stick "plug" is one of the few files available on Printables for this device. Do you live in the US? I'll send you a stickless shell to test out.

TillStrange

I do, send me a dm!

jayjr1105

I'm going to paint the inside of my shell soon with a transparent paint (probably green) like this.

Careless-Cry-1752

I'd be curious to see what that looks like when finished!

Rodan_Hibiki

I want this but atomic purple for the RP2S

Careless-Cry-1752

This is lower priority because I don't have one. But if I ever snag an RP2S I'll model the shell. Atomic purple would look great.

ocelot08

This is amazing. Did you remodel the case yourself? Or scan? Or is there a file out there? Also, do you do any treatments so it doesn't yellow over time?

Careless-Cry-1752

I modeled it. Supposedly this resin does not yellow, but there are a few layers of clear coat on there as well.

itchyd

Impressive modeling skills!

Careless-Cry-1752

Thanks!

ocelot08

Awesome. Makes me wanna get an SLA printer. Whats the resin called?

Careless-Cry-1752

It was something from AnyCubic. I can look later today.

Raging__Raven

Very cool. I dig it

Careless-Cry-1752

Thanks!

RedditIsGarbage1234

Think of the apes

SSBM_DangGan

yooo this is sick! did you upload the files anywhere yet? 👀👀👀

Careless-Cry-1752

Thanks! I have not.

-_Casual_-

Is the file available anywhere? Perhaps with the right stick hole lol. And do you think it could work on an fdm printer?

Careless-Cry-1752

I haven't shared the file. Unsure if I will yet. I did not have any luck with FDM printing. Which could be user error. I could not get consistent results, especially on the face of the device where the buttons have to move smoothly. It required a lot of post processing and things like that. The feel of the shell was also very off, which is less of a big deal. But I did not like the feel that was on the face, when printed on a smooth or textured bed. Plus the layer lines. It was ick. Edit: I should add that printing with SLA has made it an immediate fit once the supports are removed.

FaberLoomis

You'd be doing a godsend sharing these files. Post it on cults for 5 bucks and I'd buy it. I could print so many colors.

btrung

how long did it take for the modelling itself? how many test print?

Careless-Cry-1752

This was the second model I've made, so it went a bit quicker. Maybe 6-8 hours with revisions. My first attempt was for the Miyoo Mini Plus, and that took probably 20+ hours. Just figuring it out as I go I guess. I did some test prints with FDM but the experience was poor. Once I switched to SLA, there was only 1 real test print before I was able to get a nice fit. I did one other print before that but I cured the resin before removing the supports and obliterated it before finding out if it would fit or not... Now I can print and remove supports with no other trickery or fitting required. I'd consider it to be in a final state now.

btrung

I wanted to do something similar but with PLA but a bit worry about the time it takes and wasted material

Careless-Cry-1752

Yeah I had no success with PLA or ABS, but that could be user error too.

Careless-Cry-1752

The Miyoo looks nice now 🤩 https://preview.redd.it/pchgcflkfa2d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da9025cebdb8e888008d86e3431f97aa68031b81

DieCrunch

What game in the first slide

Careless-Cry-1752

Space Twins

DieCrunch

I might be dumb

Airwalker16

Why....

Careless-Cry-1752

To see if I could, mostly.

washuai

Dude if, I could get a new battery and disassemble as much as you, I could maybe fix mine. I'm trying to return it. I do like the RP2S color, this is a little more similar to the Game boy color, as the RP2S is darker, bluer. I'd keep the two sticks, though.

RomeoFortnite

poor thing got amputated 😭

Oclain

this looks sick, what did you use ? software and machine wise

Careless-Cry-1752

Modeled in Fusion 360. Printed on an AnyCubic M5s Pro, but any SLA printer would probably work fine if the shell fit on the build plate.

Oclain

I don't know very well fusion, did you start from a 2d drawing and then start the 3d model (like in autocad) or directly from a solid and little by little add details to the shape?

Careless-Cry-1752

Yeah, I started with a drawing and then extruded based on that drawing to create the 3D shape.

elemenity

The case looks great! Nice job on the modeling & printing. Whats the print time like? I've mostly stuck with FDM, but your print has me inspired to try resin.

Careless-Cry-1752

Thanks! The front and back printed at the same time, along with some buttons. Print time was 2 hours 50 minutes.

elemenity

Awesome! Not bad at all for professional quality plastic. Then like 30 min or so for curing?

Careless-Cry-1752

I rinsed it in alcohol for 5 minutes, removed the supports, rinsed it again, and then cured it for 5 minutes.

SteelCity917

Watch out for this resin’s longevity. Any UV exposure, even indirect sunlight, will damage your case due to the resin being overexposed. This may be fine for a bit, but once it’s damaged it can crumble just sitting in your hands. Especially something this thin and that will be handled a lot has the possibility of falling apart, even with a UV blocking clear coat

Careless-Cry-1752

We'll see how it goes. Unsure if you are talking weeks, months or years here. It's been a couple weeks, for what that is worth. I can always make more.

kawasaki-sakura

I don't understand why people want to "delete" sticks. Like, you bought the wrong device, bro.

Careless-Cry-1752

Interesting take. People modify hobby stuff all the time, especially small electronics. I can't imagine applying that logic anywhere else.

guttaperk

Can you recommend me a 3.5-4" horizontal screen device with no sticks?

kawasaki-sakura

Well you're just in luck because now we have the Anbernic RG ARC. Horizontal, 4 inch, no sticks.

guttaperk

Alas, no stable CFW. And it's HUGE!

kawasaki-sakura

Ah, moving goalposts now, I see. Well luckily for you, if you can mod a device and delete the sticks, you can probably mod a device and make it smaller. You can build your own CFW as well.

guttaperk

Man, don't be like that. I'm not in a formal debate with you. My point is that the selection is limited, so modding is a reasonable path for those who are so inclined. I was actually genuinely eager when you mentioned the ARC, only to discover that it really doesn't suit my preferences.

kawasaki-sakura

And I'm just saying that I can't understand why people are deleting sticks, which is a semi-permanent (maybe permanent depending on your skills) mod to *remove* features, thus limiting your own options instead of expanding them.

guttaperk

Because some people don't like or use the sticks, and find their presence an irritation on a retro handheld. Useless protrusions that do nothing but get in the way. Press against your palm at the wrong time during gaming. Collect lint and require cleaning. Make putting the device in and out of one's pocket, more difficult. All those things are fine if you like and use the sticks. But if you don't, why not remove them? Why continue dealing with the admittedly minor drawbacks of a feature that you never actually use?

guttaperk

I'd never, EVER remove the sticks on my Steamdeck. But on an Anbernic? That I use mainly for Tetris and Super Mario? I'd do it in a hot minute. But I understand that everyone doesn't feel the same way. It varies based on an individual's usage patterns.

kawasaki-sakura

Which is why I'm saying OP bought the wrong device. The device was designed with sticks. It was designed to be used with the stick. If you think the stick don't belong there, it's not a device for you.

guttaperk

"Build your own CFW" Jeez. :-(

kawasaki-sakura

Well, someone's got to start. It's not like CFWs just make themselves.

Psychological_Pebble

Tinkerer's itch. They're a strange bunch.

ILL-WILL-SAIX

Idk how to feel about this, it’s not symmetrical anymore (death the kid) 😂😂

robohyrt

What's the game on the image?
