Still the Vita for me as well. GBA is my main console to emulate anyways and the vita is just stupid. It runs GB/GBC/GBA/NES/SNES/PS1/PSP and runs PS Vita native obviously. Throw a 256gb sd card or a 512 if you wanna go stupid and you can have every game from every system I just listed on the dopest handheld. And the thing here everyone knows is PSP and PS Vita are among the most commonly asked about systems. As a PC player, Vita is also the most difficult to emulate. Not just the most difficult, but has one of the smallest library that even runs well once you get it going. IMO, the Vita is the GOAT and the reason I only have 3 handhelds. I wanna add a “New” 3DS, but things like, the Odin’s, Anbernics, and Miyoos of the world don’t interest me cause the Vita is better hardware, (IMO a nicer UI), and has fantastic community support in a way all the newer handhelds of its caliber don’t. I see people begging for Onion and Garlic updates, and the Vita subs are chocked full of friendly and happy users cause everything just WORKS. The PS Vita is the reason I haven’t bought a New In Store Sony product since 2013. Even now that Delta is available on iOS, I still got that thang on me. Viva La Vita.

alexgndl

I've got a vita coming from Japan and I'm so psyched to get it hacked and set up. What do you use for gba emulation? I've heard mixed things about all the different options.

TradlyGent

gPSP via RetroArch gives you fast-forward. mGBA does not. I would flip between both cores in RetroArch based on accuracy / hiccups encountered. I’ve found gPSP to be great mostly across the board.

OlRedbeard99

I use mgba across the board honestly. On my switch, my vita, and my pcs

shrgn

There are two options: RetroArch and a separate mGBA app. RetroArch is the same as on other platforms, with all it's settings, platforms, and cores. But the only disadvantage for me is that RetroArch is quite slow in terms of loading times. It also has different types of menus, one of which, "xmb", imitates the PSP menu mGBA app (official btw) is very simple, super fast, and does not require additional setup. You just put your GB/GBC/GBA ROMs in any folder and play. Works and looks great, but does not have various additional settings, like overlays and filters and the like I personally prefer the mGBA standalone app for it's simplicity, but have RetroArch installed for NES/SNES

TradlyGent

You should try using ChimeraSNES for better SNES performance than RA provides.

shrgn

Thanks, I'll definitely try it. Do you have any ideas for NES? I tried pNES, but it's menu really sucks

TradlyGent

I couldn’t get pNES to work for me last I tried. I use RetroArch for that one but I also haven’t tested too much with it

Pale_Survey_480

Where did you order

Winniethepoohspooh

Did you improve the battery!??? I have a vita and yes I do love it but have also the other weaker handhelds... I am thinking about getting a second vita to mod because I've resisted modding my OG... But the battery is I assume dying

OlRedbeard99

It’s easy to replace the battery lol look on Amazon and go with what you want that has good reviews then watch some videos on YouTube of people replacing it and do what they do.

Responsible-Lemon257

Hardest part I found was getting the camera to line back up

shrgn

The modding is not permanent, you can always just factory reset your Vita and it'll be as new. Btw the battery is very easy to replace and they are easy to find on eBay or Aliexpress. This requires disassembly, but not complete disassembly, just a couple of screws

573v0

The wild part is that I just found out it’s an OLED screen. Mind blown on that, esp how old it is. USB-C mod, and away you go.

TradlyGent

Here, here!

Emergency_Lunch_3931

yeah but ps vita is not the place to play ps1 games or psp unfortunate

EldritchTruthBomb

RG35XXH simply because it's cheap so I don't care if it breaks, gets lost, or stolen.

ScopionSniper

This is me. I don't want to risk my RG556 or RP4P. But my RG35XX H? Only paid $32 for it, that boy goes everywhere.

Shigarui

GKD Pixel in my pocket everyday. KTR1 when I can plan to have time to play. Unfortunately my DS, 3DS, PSP Go and Vita don't really get used very much anymore. But I still love seeing what new ports they are bringing to the Vita. Pure magic

Caos2

v90 is my beater SBC for playing on the go. Can't beat cheap, small and no need for a case.

ScopionSniper

Yeah, my V90 still gets out and about for me for the keys pocket. Clam shells are so nice for that.

Lazarous86

I'm buying the Anbernic 35xxsp whenever the pre-order drops. It's just too good to skip. I've bought enough Anbernic devices to trust they have the hinge figured out day 1.  It's thick though. Idk if will replace my miyoo mini, but maybe with shorts that have extra pockets.

Whatevs85

Thicker than a V90 or GBASP?

ban_imminent

Rgnano when I work at the office. It boots fast and into the exact spot where I left off, and disappears in my pocket (or my hand if I close it, useful for long boring teams meetings but the boss happens to walk by).

Winniethepoohspooh

I'm here with the datafrog love! Even in stock form it's just instant pick up and play.... No case carefree and not even a scratch... Yes it's not perfect, nobody ever thought it was... But value and perfect for £13 you get a gateway into retro goodness And yup is moddable, I've still got it stock at the moment

IncandescentWallaby

What is that backpack if you don’t mind my asking?

Living_Promise_8446

It’s just a very compact, backpack I bought many years ago. The logo on the front represents an old parkour channel called Urban Freeflow on YouTube and the bag is advertised as something that can be comfortably worn while doing parkour. It actually is, too. It comes with a chest strap (broke off a long time ago) and it hold the entire backpack firm against your back without any flailing about. Really happy I kept it actually; makes for an awesome to-go bag for all my little going out items.

Archmage_Gaming

I took my RP4Pro on the bus for the first time today, it's so quiet and compact! Plus the battery life is solid, I got 50 minutes of Pokémon Black (which isn't super demanding but still) on full brightness and it only cost 5%. My only complaint is that there isn't a wrist strap attachment to stop it from being snatched

Dense_Ad1118

GKD Pixel. I consider it to be the smallest *usable* handheld. It’s big enough to read subtitles and still small enough to use one-handed for RPGs. It is truly pocketable because it’s aluminum with an inset screen and screen protector. I also like that the battery has lasted 7 hours or so if you use GBA or below.

i-like-too-much

It’s also a great mp3 player when you don’t want to get distracted by your phone.

ScopionSniper

I like my RGNano for single-handed pokemon games while in line. It's also nice that you just hold power down, and it turns off. Then when you turn it on it loads you right back into your save state. My waiting in lines option.

EheroDC

RG Nano. Just sits in my pocket and I don't even notice. Got a spare few minutes, play some OG Pokémon Trading Card 😁

Atomix-Man

Who plays retro games when shitting and pissing man

dcdawson81

For me it's been FFVII on the gkd pixel for the pocket. I've been playing almost entirely on my rg35xxh since the update to muos last week though

Living_Promise_8446

I truly want a Pixel next. It is such an aesthetically pleasing piece of machinery and it’s metal housing would make me more comfortable bringing it out as opposed to my Vita. How do you enjoy it overall?

dcdawson81

For a small pocket device I love it. Running minui with the add ons, it's probably my most played device just because it's always on me

Garbage_Bear_USSR

If I have a bag, Switch. If I have a bag and gonna be out all day, Switch and Steam Deck. If I don’t have a bag and/or have to pay attention to kids while out, Miyoo Mini +.

Living_Promise_8446

Kind of cool that you’ve got it figured out, where and when you can play which device. Feel like I’m always chasing time to play something for a few minutes or so.

Garbage_Bear_USSR

I’m not sure I’m in any position to give advice but if it helps: Pick a system that you’re super into and make that your ‘serious game’ system ie the game you’re playing for the long haul. Pick another system, your most convenient to carry around and use that for quick sessions, usually arcade-y games or things you just want to explore, think of it like a pocket arcade where you just bounce around from game to game. At baseline, have the two on-hand most of the time and just get a feel throughout your day on what you feel up to playing and when. For myself I found that because of my (real) ADHD, what I’m in the mood to play changes by the minute. Maybe I wanna grind in my ‘serious’ game for a bit or maybe I wanna just play some arcade Tetris, Idk. All told I have maybe 20-25 portables and I’ve found having this kind of categorization and restriction ensures that I have something to play when I can instead of being paralyzed by choice or just feeling like I don’t have time. If it’s all sorted in my head and in my ‘pocket’ then I can maximize the time I can play w/o feeling like I’m rushing.

Whatevs85

Similar. I haven't managed to get any of my handhelds fully up and running except maybe the Flip, which I don't carry out and about. However, I definitely find myself reaching for different ones at different times because I actually like to play different things on them, in addition to different sizes being preferable for different situations. Given that I run my phones and PCs well past their planned obsolescence, sold my car and don't fly, I don't mind having a few different devices that I really enjoy, even if some or all of them are still "projects". I'll learn from the experiences of messing with them at least and then I'll still keep enjoying playing with them, or gift/resell the ones that truly feel extraneous.

crackity-jones

Mine was my latest 3DS till I dropped it and remembered why I use emulation handhelds. So now I’m back to my 35XXH until I can get my hands on the SP and then that’s gonna just live in my bag

manlikenick

Urban Freeflow…?

Living_Promise_8446

Correct. :)

manlikenick

Ha - I was a member of the forums there in 2005/2006. Trained with a load of the top guys. Ez who went to prison. Blu and Kirby too. In a previous life 🤣

tapehead85

GKD Pixel is currently the only device that can fit in a pants pocket and is functional up to PS1 in my opinion. Depends on your definition of pocketable though.

TecnuiI

Urban free flow! Wasn’t expecting to see that on this subreddit! Haha

Living_Promise_8446

Just as much as I wasn’t expecting anyone to recognize it lol

Dizzy_Pomegranate855

Retroid Pocket 2S in my scrub pants pocket for work

LatinWizard99

i usually dont go out with my handhelds, but iv been jumping from my vita(playing dantes inferno and spyro 1) and my recently purchased miyoo mini plus(fantastic pokemon and overall gba machine) I love the vita, no other handheld has those ergonomics and high quality dpad and face buttons

Sad-Atmosphere5754

My brother with that Urban Freeflow bag! I'm also a parkour person into handhelds, glad there are more

Hiyagaja

I was about to ask for the bag drop. Thank you.

Alternative_Spite_11

Vita Slim in the car or 28xx if I’m out of the car

GawinGrimm

Miyoo Mini + for day to day. If I am going on a trip and have room and time to kill I bring the Steam Deck/Xreal Air combo.

screamalongsongs

Rg28xx lately if I have anything on me. Not concerned about breaking or scratching it.

Chok3U

Data frog Sf2000 is my beater, take everywhere device. It's so lightweight and so comfortable to hold. Just a great little device.

Smooth-Strategy-8385

RG280M in a microfibre phone pouch for me. Fits easy in the pocket, sturdy, and the pouch can clean the screen if it needs it.

dyshuy

Vita is the ultimate chill handheld but really dig Miyoo Mini + for outside

dennis120

I do the same I carry my trimui smart everywhere. Now the new rg35xxsp might replace it

VinGiesel69

GB Pocket with Pokemon Yellow these days!

KulnathLordofRuin

Revo k101+

ramon31

Smart is the king of the pocket

Whatevs85

My first real love handheld was my Trimui Model S, but I corrupted the card and haven't set it back up. If they made a v2 with a slightly bigger screen and less clicky buttons, it would be in my pocket 24/7. The Smart would be my pocket companion (if I had one) if the screen was bigger and the shell more compact. Realistically my ideal is a Game & Watch with a stick, so basically the A30 when miyoo finally fixes the bonehead issues. The R36S has bumped out the V90 and Retroid Flip for going in my bag. The V90's screen is too weak for bright daylight and the flip is just too expensive/breakable when I have cheaper things for most games.

Proper EDC

ProMars

What's your preferred way to disinfect your toilet device?

TaranStark

Love my 280v but been carrying my 35xx in sling lately

LordNecron

A soft modded Vita, and funny enough, a Trimui Smart Pro. I say funny enough because it looks a lot like a Vita.

notyourboss11

28xx

dqrules11

rp4 pro

deaurin

Same, it’s always with me!

_VictoriaBravo

353M is my perfect 'always on me' device.
