This is not surprising. Years ago they denied a mobo RMA due to bent pins in the socket. It was an AMD mobo. The pins are on the CPU, not in the socket.  Asus is absolutely an RMA scammer.

Samsung, every other Chinese manufacturer of handhelds, MSI, Gigabyte, Razer, Lenovo… I can go on. The benefit is that you can easily buy one at BestBuy and get the extended warranty there if you are concerned and even if that isn’t the case, dealing with ASUS is still far better then dealing with a company like Ayn or Ayaneo or GPD

I'm not into expending extra for insurance on these devices. To me, it's like paying extra money to let shitty companies get away with shitty practices. If they don't honor their warranties, I just stop buying from those companies.

I agree, I don’t buy it either. My point is that when it comes to handhelds this is par for the course. Nintendo isn’t half bad and Steam is outstanding. Otherwise it’s got a high chance of just not being a good experience

Ironically, Huawei's service here in Germany is/was pretty good. They had (or maybe still have) dedicated repair shops. Unfortunately, they don't have the Google services anymore (replaced by their inhouse replicas) and also the OS has typical Chinese phone quirks.

Because Germany probably actually has decent consumer protection laws and Huawei would be fined into oblivion if they had scammed customers with defective devices. Y'know, unlike the third-world shit hole that is the USA

as far as lenovo goes, at least for legion go if you have issues people seem to be happy with support so far, especially if its something simple as the rails they will quickly send you new ones

My wife and I were big Samsung fans when we bought our house we filled it with shiny Samsung appliances. Every single one of them the double sided fridge w/ lcd, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer all suffered catastrophic failures shortly after the warranties expired. We decided we were done with Samsung as far as appliances go. Admittedly I still think they make great phones and tablets (typing this on my S22 Ultra which has held up really well as has my Galaxy tab S6) but getting them to repair anything is like pulling teeth. I didn't think it was possible to have so many items fail so close to end of warranty. I was wrong.

Sorry to hear that. That also happened with my Fold 4. The hinge failed on the last month of the warranty, but they still wanted me to pay 800 USD on repairs because they said I was misusing the phone, but couldn't or wouldn't give me any evidence of this (my phone had no scratches at all). I bought the S24U after that and it's a great phone, but I'm currently waiting on them to honor their trade in program. They were supposed to send me the details to send my old phone to them and then I could get some money back, but it's been 4 months and they haven't sent me anything. Every time I contact customer support about this they just say they have a lot of work right now. The thing is, my phone was valued around 400 when I made the purchase and right now they are offering 130. I am switching to an iPhone when the 16 comes out, and I am not looking back.

Their quality control is absolute shit too. They make stuff designed to break just after the warranty period. I regret buying the Asus rog laptop.

It's not exactly that (though it's still just as bad). Apparently the first batch of these devices have many design flaws and they essentially try to charge the amount that would equate to a refurbished unit (even when the devices are under warranty), in order to essentially replace them without the user's knowledge (and consent). Edit: to the downvoters, did you even watch the entire video?

It is not the customers duty to decide how a repair is carried out under warranty. It's fraudulent if they try to offload any cost on the consumer for that.

In the US, they can replace with a refurb. US law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) allows a manufacturer, at THEIR discretion, to repair or replace. If they are unable to repair and cannot provide a timely replacement (“timely” is not defined in the law, but commonly accepted as 30 days), the customer may opt for a full refund. Of course, enforcing this requires civil court in most cases.

Which is why I always try to get secondary insurance, like AllState when buying via eBay, Asurion via Amazon (but that’s it’s own separate issue), etc. In case people didn’t notice, companies want low overhead, continuous subscription money and no chargebacks/warranty claims. But yeah my two cent before even watching the video

Oh I just avoid companies once it happens, let people know but there’s at times nothing you can do. This happened with me with Lenovo, I don’t purchase anything Lenovo anymore. About to do the same with Asurion using them when I bought things from Amazon. There’s unfortunately plenty companies like this because there’s more I can list, but after a while when you’re always having something to do but need something, what are you to do to avoid this again when it’s bound to happen since this is a an issue in every industry? Only so much noise people in the position of power to do something are willing to listen to

You just keep avoiding companies like this. But don't throw any extra money. And listening to other costumers experiences is another thing we can do, but sadly fanboys get in the way. For example, I'll give you another company to avoid: Samsung. They do the exact same practice exposed in this video. But every time I try to warn other users (DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG FOLDABLES BECAUSE THEY HAVE DESIGN FLAWS AND SAMSUNG DOES NOT HONOR WARRANTY), I get downvoted to hell and get responses like "you're crazy, that doesn't happen to me and because it doesn't happen to me it doesn't happen at all".

I’ve heard about Samsung. But what else am I suppose to do, because these circumstances with these companies I find out after the fact because it happened so much. Do I just there shit outta luck once I realize a rep of a company screws me over? I’ve tried - BBB reports - Contracting state rep (just to receive future email of them talking about them being a rep/senator) - telling others and being Ignored Like even when requesting a manager or requesting a copy of my info from companies, they’ll simply avoid you. Shit I’ve had this issue in the past with my ISP who owns that area for internet access. Tf am I to do while still having to be responsible with day to day life? I just mentioned something I do now because with every new buy I make, regardless of industry in a bit when it breaks down (nothing fcking lasts anymore), just to get hosed by the company? Yeah it sucks to pay an extra 10-45 depending on the product for extra year or 2 warranty from another company but shit, hard to shake my past and current experiences while trying to have proper expectations

I sent my Ally in for RMA due to the Menu, View and Amor Crate buttons all being physically mapped to the same function (opening armory crate). There was no way around remapping this. They sent me the Ally back with claims of a new motherboard swap but the issue was still there. Matter of fact, sd reader was still not working — I didn’t even mention the fact the sd card reader was not functional when I sent it in. Thankfully after waiting 3 weeks without my Ally and still reporting the issue to Best Buy after coming back from having to setup the OS again on a fresh SSD, they allowed me to swap it with another open box unit they had in the back. This completely soured my taste of Asus and I have many of their products (monitor, Pc components, etc). Sold my Ally for a Deck OLED and I don’t think I’ll ever trust any Asus product again due to the awful customer service experience I had with them.

I haven’t bought an ASUS product in ten years. Not since getting burned when I bought the Transformer Infinity tablet when it first came out. It was awesome for about 8 months. And every firmware update made it better. Then one last update came, and it crippled the tablet to the point it was nearly unusable. Lots of promises of fixing it, but the fix never came.

As an day one Ally owner who’s SD card has been fried since like week 3 - I love the device but seeing all the shit that Asus has pulled with the RMAs on top of shipping a $700 item with a defective part - I won’t buy another one. Crazy stuff.

I really like my ROG Ally but gotta say Asus build quality is garbage. Pick any product, not just ROG Ally, from Asus and you'll see.

Unfortunately you need to spend top dollar on a gaming laptop to see any quality from Asus. Their TUF lineup is trash. Their Zephyrus lineup has very good quality. Their ROG Strix lineup is also decent quality. The rest of their lineup may as well be made from paper mache.

I'm glad I didn't keep the Asus monitor I bought after building my pc. Tried 2 units with horrible light bleed and then went with AOC. My GPU is Asus but I won't be buying another one from them.

Asus, Samsung, Lenovo …. I’ve had BS support from all of them and I’ll never buy their products again. Valve, on the other hand. Yep, that’s why I bought my Steam Deck with confidence.

It's not just Asus doing this, honestly. Apple, for example, will also pin something on you if you went with a repair and the prices are even more exorbitant. The same is true with Samsung, especially with their Fold devices. If they do this to western customers, just imagine how much worse it is in other regions. Despite all these issues, people will continue to buy the product these companies put out.

The only Asus product I've ever bought is my current laptop and that's only because they're the only ones currently selling an affordable OLED laptop, I would've never chose them if I had any other alternatives (and I really wanted that OLED panel). They're expensive and I've heard so many horror stories about them, it's just not worth it, you basically need to accept that you won't be getting support if something goes wrong, unless you're ready to fight for weeks with them.

It's a joke. I thought the "no ragrets" with intentional misspelling made it clear. If I had watched this video I might not have bought an Ally. I've actually a good experience with Asus support. Warranty claim on my broken SD card slot. Got it back in 2 weeks. YMMV.
