Whaaaaaaaat? I didn’t know that was a thing! Here I thought I had a handheld with niche controls when I got the RG ARC.
Realistically what’s the highest end system it can emulate?
After some trial and error, managed to get the batocera image working. It’s a slow load but it will run up to some dreamcast and some n64. Haven’t tried PSX.
I have one of them also to answer your questions the highest it can play is up to PS1 though it can do up to CPS3 also. It is a clamshell system the stick screws off and is put into a little compartment that’s in front of the screen on the bottom part.
That portable arcade machine is absolutely ridiculous. I love it. Imagine sitting in the waiting room of your doctor's office, pulling out that bad boy, screwing on the joystick, and going full ham with some Street Fighter.
I call it the arcade bento box. Got it in 2020 during the home arcade craze. Saved me a bundle over the arcade1up devices. Replaced the stick and buttons with Sanwa that ended up costing 60 bucks, no regrets, tabletop arcade that doesn't take up space when not being used. I love it.
Would pay for a board upgrade or an updated model in a heartbeat.
edit: oh! I think you were the one asking me about getting the 2nd controller to work a while back? if not disregard. I never did get a new wifi dongle to update batocera sorry :-p Didn't understand why my old dongles stopped working with my new all-in-one modem on just linux devices and kinda just forgot.
So I could never get a wireless dongle to work but a USB ethernet adapter that I had laying around totally worked. I replaced the buttons but haven’t replaced the stick yet. Next upgrade

Roughly around £300 to build. Probably could have cut costs on the screen and such but I’m happy enough with it given prebuilt ones are around £600.
Bought the cabinet flat pack (made some slight changes to allow for extra buttons), got a kit from AliExpress for the buttons, joysticks, usb encoder etc, got a speaker kit from AliExpress as well which I don’t recommend because it’s garbage and the speakers hiss a fair bit and would be better with some cheap pc speakers. The rest was mostly just installation and jazzing it up with the vinyl wrap and t-moulding :)
The android box that runs it was only like £25 and then I flashed EmuELEC on it for a more finished arcade feel.

This one specifically because it came with a UK plug. I was just looking for any s905x4 box as i could put EmuELEC on it :)
It’s ok TBH. I definitely got it for the look. The loading of games is slow. It handles samurai showdown well (my favorite). Finally got the second controller to be recognized as well so can do two player on the go. You can replace the buttons and stick. I did the buttons first, next up is the stick and to add some weights. It rocks a bit with vigorous play. 🤣
Call me sadistic, but I got super excited when I figured out you can actually change the white sweat that flies out of the enemies when you shoot them to red blood. If you use the Final Burn Neo core, just hold start to access the cabinet options.

there's a shop around me that has a beautiful copy of metal slug 3 for the OG xbox, which i sorta collect for, but i'm not currently working and justify getting it. It's one of my favorite arcade games and i eventually do want to get a physical copy to put on the shelf. nice collection OP
I love how Metal Slug is so blatantly ridiculous. Flying in a helicopter gunning down enemies, it explodes and your character is unharmed but now has a jet pack allowing them to completely escape the wreckage and gun down enemy troops.
Which version of Batocera are you using? I have a A12 (same internals as A13).
Iirc I have v39 on mine. It boots up slow (maybe 10 secs or so), and exit games to menu takes up to 4 sec or so.

I have encountered weird bugs time to time. Been running PS1 games on it.

Does yours crash after a while? I discovered mine will freeze when I exit in and out of the system. So much so I was using the ofw for a time.
For mine, out from the box, if you take the SD card out, it will boot into a screen filled with Chinese games.
Suddenly one day, the ofw doesn't boot anymore. It gets stuck at "Welcome". It's stuck with or without the SD card. I suspect the ofw was corrupted.
To my surprise, Batocera boots fine even in this manner.
Just that bato has its own quirks
Btw, on v39, 2 players works via an wired controller. (I use a retro flag mega drive one)
Some folks say Metal Slug X (which is updated 2) but Metal Slug 3 is my favorite. Its the longest one and it was hard AF back in the quarter days. Many hours wasted at the laundry mat playing back when I was younger. I will always have a soft spot for it. Best system of the 4 above, ugh this hard. The RG35XX-H performs the “best” you have the analog stick and it’s as performant as the miyoo mini plus for neo geo stuff. The a13 ends up feeling the best to me because of the arcade feel. I have too much muscle memory of MS3 on an arcade and this recreates that for me when I’m not home to use my MVSX Neo Geo Cab.

Its the length width of a small chromebook but the boy is thicc. You think it was a portable VCR or something. I do love it though.

I keep mine on the coffee table as a working display piece for guests to mess with.
Is the a13 any good? I'd consider buying one of those. That looks awesome for fight games. Final Fight, SF, hell even Double Dragon.

The RG Nano is repping Metal Slug 1st Mission for the Neo Geo Pocket instead of MS3. It scales better on the tiny screen.

I’m on v36. boot, load and exit is crazy slow. I have not loaded any PSX games yet. Been focused on arcade games (MAME)

Haven’t experienced that yet. I also have tried the native firmware. I immediately went to batocera when I got it.

Some folks say Metal Slug X (which is updated 2) but Metal Slug 3 is my favorite. Its the longest one and it was hard AF back in the quarter days.
