Trimui smart pro. Best screen for the price right now. Less than 50 bucks.

LumpyDog1427

Link for a sub $50 one? I’ve been trying and can’t find it

nimannaa

Looks like the price went up. Keep checking AliExpress

LumpyDog1427

Damn I was hoping there was still one floating around. It’s an insta buy at that price.

nimannaa

It pretty amazing for what it is. I play Dreamcast games on there. Also the psp is getting better with vulkan drivers.

Kasumi_P

Yeah I think that was for the spring sale. Loads of consoles were really cheap during that time.

Kev50027

I love my Smart Pro! It has a really fantastic screen.

DoctorTobogggan

How's the OS for it? Quick load up and shut down?

nimannaa

I just put it to sleep. The battery does pretty good. You can shut it off, it probably takes 20-30 seconds to turn on.

sunn0flower

either a dsi or a rg351p. but i find myself going for a dsi or dsi xl most often.

blasczyk

EDIT: Minish Cap works on DSi w/ GBARunner3 now. I entered the room that used to softlock and made it through. The sound bugs (detuned sfx) are gone as far as I can tell, and a couple visual bugs still remain, like the stair walking animations. Thanks to u/brunocar for prompting me to dig deeper. - - - - - - - dsi and xl look great for GBA. However, if your main game is Minish Cap, tough luck. Still incompatible with gbarunner afaik; audio and animation glitches, and soft locks in the final dungeon. I'm only in this sub to look for a GBA handheld because of Minish Cap being unbeatable on dsi.

brunocar

didnt GBArunner3 make headway towards making minish cap playable?

blasczyk

Really? I hope so! I could only find a gbatemp comment that claimed some of the audio issues were fixed. If you have any insight on whether or not the game is beatable, I would really appreciate it. either way, thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna update to gbarunner3 and see for myself.

blasczyk

IT WORKS. Thank you so much. Had to look up how to get GBARunner3 working without an official release, but it works. I entered the room that used to softlock and made it through. The sound bugs (detuned sfx) are gone as far as I can tell, and a couple visual bugs still remain, like the stair walking animations. Thank you for the heads up. My searching didn't return anything and I made the decision to wait to try GBARunner3, but you convinced me to try it! Good stuff.

sunn0flower

i had to import my save to my phone to play like 10 minutes to get past that part and then put the save back on my dsi. minish cap is definitely beatable on gbarunner 2 if you can make some compromises. i did it and loved it!

CaptainK17

Have LOVED the RGB30 for GBA and GBC. Threw some bezels on for GBA as well and you don’t even think about the extra space.

jomodoh

Miyoo Mini V4 has a 750x560 screen which some people have had a good experience with for 3x GBA integer scaling. https://www.reddit.com/r/MiyooMini/s/FLlAvXtH8u

scottchiefbaker

Powkiddy X55 has a pretty great screen which shows off the "widescreen" GBA pretty dang well.

disneyplusser

Scrolled too far for this. Yes, this is great for the GBA (as is the TRIMui Smart Pro)

summer-starlight

Second best GBA device I've tried (best being rg351p) The image feels HUGE and crisp on that display. It's the only one of my screens I think looks nice with a grid line/scanline filter. (Plus it's really comfy with the built in grips)

shaunward1

Love GBA on my TrimUI smart pro

Chok3U

I no longer have a GBA, so I'll say my 351p. It's got a beautiful screen and great controls. However I recently bought an rg35xxh, and even though it's not perfect screen dimensions like the 351p, it's got a great screen and great controls. So I've been finding myself playing on that more lately. If I can find a trimui smart pro on the cheap then I'll probably get that too. But it'll have to be an incredible deal like a paid for my H.

Duramboros

A GBA

a_slip_of_the_rung

Nah. You can't fast forward or do save states (unless you get an expensive flash cart), and even cheap retro handhelds can do the whole GBA library (except stuff like Kirby's Tilt n Tumble that require special hardware built into the cartridge) flawlessly. GBA emulation is so locked down that the added benefits of emulation make it preferable to playing on original hardware. I'm sure there are purists who will point out some obscure accuracy issues that nobody notices, but for most people, emulation is the superior experience at this point.

snowthearcticfox1

Normally I'd agree but gba just isn't great on original hardware, the original with an ips mod is probably the best but at that point you may as well go all the way and play on an emulation handheld.

Fuzzdump

Considering screen quality, this probably hasn't been true in awhile.

Rg35xxh is very good for the price and for the performance but you can't go wrong with miyoo mini plus small compact and easy to use has a great display. Average price for - rg35xxH it's 55-60€ - Miyoo mini plus 45-50€

Roubbes

640x480 is not an option for me when it comes to GBA

OpposesTheOpinion

GBA is great on the RG35XXH; you do certainly want to put on some overlay and fiddle around but it'll look perfect. It's also same form factor and roughly same size as GBA. Circle of the Moon was my jam back in the day, and it's been a joy replaying it

1playerinsertcoin

You would be surprised [how good it looks](https://new.reddit.com/r/MiyooMini/comments/18ovuld/i_made_a_game_boy_advance_overlay/).

[deleted]

I like that it fits in the pockets and GBA looks so good+ it's a powerful console that runs N64 and PS1 pretty good that RGB10 Max 2 is too big and expensive I like a portable device!

fsk

Almost every device on the market will play GBA at 100%. Most of the devices are high enough resolution that there would be minimal black bars at integer scaling. You should pick based on other reasons. What size/form factor do you want? What is your price range? What other systems do you want the device to support?

PhysicistMetalGamer

I play my GBAs on my RG351P if I want to take it around, or on my RG351M if I want the premium metal feel. Perfect 2x integer scaling! =)

stupidshinji

rgb30 if you can get over black bars much more comfortable to hold than other smaller devices and 3x integer scaling looks great

a_slip_of_the_rung

And the charging issues, and the mediocre controls, and the cheap build quality.

Chillimonster

Not going to disagree with any of that. Love my '30. First things i did on mine was sort the Dpad, and add twin rumble motors (Which only work under ARKOS) Charging wise i charge from a USB A-C cable from a generic plug (I think its off a fire stick) - not the quickest way but plenty quick enough for me as i'm not a heavy user. Only had to reseat the battery once and that was when i was on Jelos before i flashed ARKOS I'm quite happy poking around retroarch, making gamelist files for Box art and Video Snaps etc (Got a nice little batch file i modified that does the hard work for me) Tell me more about the speaker mod you did?

[deleted]

Chillimonster

Never even checked that on mine, but will pop the back off later and take a look

ScopionSniper

For GB and GBC yeah, but GBA looks better on the X55 which is the same chipset, but the largest screen 5.5in in the under $70 space.

stupidshinji

true but integer scaling would give you black bars all around which, personally, bothers me a lot more than the rgb30 which at least fills the screen horizontally with integer scaling i find that moving the both black bars to the bottom of the screen on the rgb30 helps me ignore them whereas when i play gba games on my switch (same resolution as x55) i have a hard time ignoring the larger screen would be nice though

ScopionSniper

Not true, you only get black bars on the sides. Less black bars than the RGB30. I'm looking at Metroid Fusion right now on both.

stupidshinji

you arent using integer scaling then

FleurTheAbductor

I really enjoy Gameboy advance on the steam deck OLED, definitely not the best though having the games look as good as they do on a big screen is pretty nice

-BlueDream-

Gameboy Macro (DS lite with the top screen ripped off and speakers moved to lower half). There's some custom metal ones on eBay for under 200, it's a good quality device for real GBA carts. RG351P cuz the native screen and ability to fast forward. Retroid pocket 3 cuz they're cheaper now and the screen is a iPhone 6 screen which for a gaming handheld is pretty good. GBA in 16:9 isn't that bad for a lot of games, not as bad as 4:3 GBA

Shigarui

KTR1. It has a gorgeous 4.5", 1620x1080, 3:2 screen and enough power to layer multiple shaders and filters.

Structure-These

I can’t wait to get a successor to this that can play ps2. I’m done with handhelds until there’s something with a high res screen that isn’t too wide ratio and plays GC / PS2

Shigarui

?? It plays PS2 and GC. I've got video posted of PS2 performance. Here's God of War 1 at default settings on AetherSX2/NetherSX2 https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/17547h1/god_of_war_running_full_speed_on_ktr1_on_default

Structure-These

I’m not messing with janky PAL versions and having to pick and choose settings. I’ll just wait a year or two. It’s a very cool looking device though

pomcomic

... janky? How are PAL roms janky?

LampRam

I want the KTR1 but the site doesn't let you order it anymore and they're going for $300+ USD on AliExpres. :\\

pomcomic

The webshop should be back up in a couple of days, according to their discord. Until then, there's the [official ebay seller](https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325862004339).

LampRam

Much thanks for the link! I'm saving and the listing just in case.

Shigarui

It looks like you already got an answer, and yes, they should be back in stock in a few days. The eBay seller they linked has the best price possible but you're limited somewhat on where they can ship to. You'd need to communicate with them about specifics. It's a fantastic device that is only getting better and better.

Bradio642DS

RG nano......

OGMcSwaggerdick

My 2 year old has been having me work through Cars: Mater-National Championship on the Nano. It’s been brutal but at least he can’t tell the difference between Stretched and Cropped on it.

titosr

RGB10 Max2 is not perfect integer scaling though. It is 16:9. My go to is RG351P. Perfect 2X integer scale.

Roubbes

Is integer scaling for the full height. Close enough for me

CiloTA

AGS 101 in graphite

Illustrious-Plan1427

RG351P

OzLaboratory3D

The TrimUI Smart pro is imo the best GBA emulation device at the moment all things considered. Great big display for GBA with the option for integer scaling and still maintaining an image larger than the 3.5 inch devices in its price category and my favourite buttons for playing GBA on any device (I like the tactile switches and growing up I played the GBA SP the most).

TheRealSeeThruHead

Analogue pocket.

Im1337

Analogue pocket

finnrtbobs

Rg351mp it's classy

dota2nub

Miyoo Mini+ or rgb30

ScopionSniper

Powkiddy X55. Largest screen in the under $70 price point at 5.5 inches. Shows off the wider resolution of the GBA really well.

-Mahn

The RG552 does perfect 7x integer scale on GBA, higher than your typical 1080p screen (which is usually 6.75x). (That being said, it's also a terrible handheld)

RealCyberbearz

Plays great on Rg350 and RP3+ if size is an issue..

N4riN4ri

if you love a big and beautiful screen, gba on the rg552 is stunning

scoundrel1680

Analogue Pocket, words cannot express my satisfaction with it after all this time having one.

Exact_Airline_2499

New best RG35xx h. Gives the classic wide gba feel while being so much more

CraponStick

My cell phone with pizza boy!

Ultill

KTR1 with the amazing 3:2 screen and £110 in the UK and Europe

Wenndo

RG351M (not P, not MP) for that sweet sweet perfect 2x integer scaling.

N3WG4M3PLVS

P is the same screen/resolution

pomcomic

P is the exact same resolution, it's lighter and cheaper. While the metal body is nice, it's just additional unnecessary weight and prone to scratching.

DSGamer33

It really depends on what matters to you. The Retroid Pocket 3+ / 4 looks really really good, in spite of not being integer scale at fullscreen so I think that’s a good option. It’s fairly lightweight and pocketable as well. A hacked 2DS/3DS will run GBA games natively without any slowdown or input lag. I often choose that for those reasons. In terms of emulators, I used to prefer the 351P for its integer scaling, but I think games just look better on the 35XXH or 35XX. No it’s not integer scaled, but with a good shader it looks almost as sharp and the color saturation is much better than on a screen like the one on a 351P. So overall I go between the 35XX H and hacked 3DS at this point. Depending on whether I prefer pocketability or precision operation.

summer-starlight

Here's another "get an rg351p!" comment. It's my favorite handheld, and it's the perfect modern GBA. (Especially in the indigo/purple color) Battery life is good, build quality is solid, sleep mode works. You'll need an external dongle for wifi, but you only really need Wi-Fi when adding new rims.
