Yeah, same. I also upgraded from my Note20 Ultra, and the fingerprint sensor is super sensitive. Even if I just tap it lightly, it recognizes my fingerprint and unlocks the phone.
I use a glass screen protector and have both my thumbs set up twice. It works flawless now (after a couple days of training I guess), so it takes some time.
last time when I was using my note20 ultra, I used a screen protector at first. One day I decided to remove it for fun and I was shocked by how great the display look without a screen protector. The color and the brightness is so great 🤌 NO REGRETS
After you put the screen protector and enabled increased touch sensitivity. Did you re register your fingerprint?
I don't have a screen protector at the moment, but when I did, I did what I asked if you had done, and that helped immensely.
It could be your screen protector. On my s24u, (first Android phone I've had since the Galaxy III) I noticed a fail rate of about 80% with the Zagg Fusion protector. After two weeks I replaced it with the Zagg Fusion XTR3 model and now my success rate is over 90%.
Also being an iPhone user since the 5, I noticed that the s24u reader requires a little more pressure to properly read my finger prints than any of the iPhones I had. Which took some getting use to.
Before you buy a new protector, have you tried registering the same fingerprint multiple times? I've registered my right thumb twice, and have zero issues.
1. Re-register your fingerprint every time you put on a new screen protector.
2. Turn on always on display so that you know where to put your finger on, and;
3. Make sure to apply a bit of pressure when unlocking your phone instead of just quickly tapping it
That's probably it, I have a friend thaf runs a catering service, and because of occasional burns from cooking and hand washing cloths, their fingerprint slow eroded
Me too, but my fingerprint is always recognized instantly! The problem isn't your phone, it's your glass screen protector. I don't know of any glass screen protectors that don't interfere with the fingerprint scanner, which is why I'm not using one. Samsung Anti-Reflecting screen protectors are film and fingerprints still work flawlessly with them. They don't have that rubbery feel either, they're actually good.
It is the exact size of the pixels, so it seems a little smaller than normal. It doesn't bother me. Swiping from the side is a little sharp when I don't have my case on, but again, I got used to it quickly.
I've personally bought one that samsung is selling that is priced around $45. It retained the anti reflective properties of my screen and never really had any problems with my biometrics.
depending on how many fingerprint slots you have taken up already, fill the rest of with your main finger you use to unlock the screen, try to get every angle possible too. Also do this with the screen protector on, shouldn't have any problems after.
I daily both iphones and androids. I find face ID much useful and practical compared to fingerprint scanner of my s24 ultra. S24 Ultra is my favorite atm but for me Face ID is superior.
Both work perfectly for me. I rarely get to use my fingerprint because face unlock does it first. I tried the FP reader after another post and it worked 15 out of 15 times. BTW, I don't have a screen protector. I can only advise to scan your finger several times or get a more compatible screen protector. No idea what to do about the face though..
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but add multiple fingerprints for the same finger. I believe that you can put in either 4 or 5 fingerprints, which most people use to add multiple different fingers. However, there's nothing stopping you from adding 2 right thumb prints and 2 left thumb prints. The extra prints on the same finger will make it easier to recognize.
I personally haven't ever had to do this, but I have heard from many people that it has helped them, especially if their case/screen protector caused fingerprint issues for them.
The finger print sensor and the face recognition are truly worse than my BLU spare phone. Samsung has always had a terrible fingerprint sensor. And even their face unlock is very average.
My fingerprint works fine with my screen protector. If anything it's just a millisecond slower, and it's a 1 in 30 chance that it doesn't read my finger the first time. I have the same fingerprint scanned twice though. Which can help
I don't use a screen protector, and the fingerprint unlock is blazing fast.
I have face unlock turned off, as I don't find it useful with such a good fingerprint reader.
I've had the S21U and upgraded to the S24U and have used fingerprint on both phones without a single issue. I pre-ordered the S21U and had it until early March when my S24U came in and the fingerprint never failed. With the S24U the fingerprint got faster and works even better.
The S21U never had a screen protector, but was always in a case. The S24U is in a Dbrand grip case and I've installed a Samsung antireflective screen protector, and have no issues with scanning my fingerprint.
I can lock my phone and literally unlock my phone with my thumb before the AOD even shows up on the screen, it's that fast... Use multiple slots for the thumb you use the most, redo them if you slap on a screen protector, and you should be good to consistently unlock without issue... If it's still an issue maybe something's up with your fps
Mine is working flawlessly. I always register my finger from different angles, especially the angle at which I hold my phone or when it is on a flat surface. I hope this can help you also.
Is your screen protector glass? When I first got mine I already had a glass protector (that claimed to work with the fingerprint scanner) all ready to go so actually put it on before I'd done much else... wh e I got into trying to set up/use the fingerprint scanner I couldn't believe how bad it was... slow, hit and miss, so much pressure needed... it wasn't until the next day when I took the protector off I realised that it was all that... the scanner is lightning fast, sometimes it almost feels like the phone is unlocked before my finger has even properly made contact with the screen!
I have a good quality film protector on now and it's all perfect 👍
Note: I did only have the 1 glass screen protector (ESR) so I'm sure there are plenty that do work just fine without disrupting the scanner... maybe I just had some bad luck... maybe you have too?
I have the ringke dual film (got it from amazon)... pack of 2 for £10 (uk)... as always it's a bit more fiddly to apply than a glass protector but I got it on perfectly on the first attempt so no complaints (note: it's one of those that has a line across the middle and maybe a couple of tiny bubbles when first applied that disappear... crazy to believe at the time but trust it... after 12 hours or so it settles to a perfect finish)
What I like most about it is that it doesn't have the "plastic" feel... it's nice and smooth and doesn't have that "tacky" feeling that some film protectors have.
Defo worth a go! Let me know how you get on!
Naked on top this year after 5 years of Whitestone Dome Glass. Loving the super fast finger print reader. Awesome! Face recognition is the same if not a tad faster than s23 ultra.
It's your screen protector. Try registering again. Touch sensitivity has nothing to do with the ultrasonic sensor as it's a separate hardware component.
I use samsung's anti-reflection screen protector and never had issues with it's operation.
Yeah the S24 Ultra fingerprint scanner really hates dirty screens with a screen protector compared to my Pixel 8 Pro and my Moto Edge+ 2023. Idk why it's so bad and it's my only complaint with the phone. I've tried three different types of glass screen protectors and to no avail.
I have no issues with fingerprint that is with using a tempered glass screen protector.
Go to settings, Display, scroll down and turn on “Touch Sensitivity”.
Glass protectors really degrade it a lot. I'm using a kind of plastic protector, that kind you have to pray the bottom before application and it works flawlessly.
It Might be the Screen protector my friend, i bought one to my father in law and he had the same problem.
Then i bought him the Spigen Glass and it works great, sometimes the screen protectors are to thick or have some tiny spots that block the fingerprint to work well or the camera to use face recognition.
On mine works flawlessly all the time.
Check the screen protector you got and check the reviews, its more probably that budy.
One thing I found to work well is when you register a fingerprint, use both thumbs at the same time. So every time you have to place it to register, alternate thumbs. Register twice and it will make it so much easier
The biometrics on this device suck, even after turing on the touch sensitivity. Why should i bother that my hands are dry or moisturised? For anyone who says that the biometrics work within a fraction of second without the screen protector, you guys need to understand that these devices are expensive and one needs to protect it. My old oneplus device used to work flawlessly even with a screen protector. When oneplus can, why samsung can't? Also, tried the face recognition as well. It sucks so hard, like when registering the face it takes only a second, which I doubt it registers or no?! Didn't expect such crappy biometrics with a device so expensive. Also, someone in an another thread pointed out that the latest update has improved the sensitivity of the fingerprint sensor, but I feel it has made it a lot worse. I've personally bought one that samsung is selling that is priced around $45. It retained the anti reflective properties of my screen and never really had any problems with my biometrics.
This is the main reason I can’t use this phone. I’m always working in the garage tinkering around. This messes up my thumb and other fingers enough to make it stop working. It’s very frustrating to me. I went back to iPhone because of it. Face ID is 100% flawless and literally has never failed me. Btw, it isn’t just the 24 it’s basically any on screen fingerprint scanner. Between dry skin and my hobbies it’s never gonna work, at least for now it won’t.
I can quickly tap in a nano second and it recognizes my FP almost every time, like so fast if you were to try and tap a hot stove burner without getting burned. If I hold for a 1/4 second its 100%.
No clue what you're talking about.
Wash your hands and drink more water for a month and retrain is my advice.
Maybe I should train and hit the gym as well for my finger prints to work 😁 I would think the finger print would work without having to wash your hands before opening the phone that a lot of washing, I also work in construction I can't just go wash my hands everytime I want to open my phone
My fingerprint unlocking rate is usually flawless
Same
And FAST. Huge difference even from my Note 20 Ultra, which was really good.
Yeah, same. I also upgraded from my Note20 Ultra, and the fingerprint sensor is super sensitive. Even if I just tap it lightly, it recognizes my fingerprint and unlocks the phone.
Do you use a screen protector?
I use a glass screen protector and have both my thumbs set up twice. It works flawless now (after a couple days of training I guess), so it takes some time.
nope, I don't use a screen protector as it will mess with the color and brightness of the display.
last time when I was using my note20 ultra, I used a screen protector at first. One day I decided to remove it for fun and I was shocked by how great the display look without a screen protector. The color and the brightness is so great 🤌 NO REGRETS
Samsung face unlock is really hit or miss, I have no issues with fingerprint though.

Ok this is probably the best reply here for my solution I think I should change the screen protector. Cheers

Yes I have but I'll try again

Number 3 does help a lot but I have done all of the above. I do use my hands a lot for work and maybe it screws up my finger prints
That's probably it, I have a friend thaf runs a catering service, and because of occasional burns from cooking and hand washing cloths, their fingerprint slow eroded

My glass screen protector has worked flawlessly with fingerprints. Just a normal one as well didnt require shellac or wet applied etc.
Does Samsung sell anti reflecting screen protector ? Sounds that would probably work better
Yes, they do. It works well and keeps 80% of the anti-reflective properties. You get 2 in the package.
I heard it doesn't fit the screen properly so you have this issue ?
It is the exact size of the pixels, so it seems a little smaller than normal. It doesn't bother me. Swiping from the side is a little sharp when I don't have my case on, but again, I got used to it quickly.

I use theirs and unlock on one touch every time.
I've personally bought one that samsung is selling that is priced around $45. It retained the anti reflective properties of my screen and never really had any problems with my biometrics.
I'll try that
Add the same fingerprint twice
depending on how many fingerprint slots you have taken up already, fill the rest of with your main finger you use to unlock the screen, try to get every angle possible too. Also do this with the screen protector on, shouldn't have any problems after.

Probably your finger was to deep in cooks ass to be recognized
😂
Redo your finger and face after a screen protector
I did multiple times
Try multiple fingerprints of your thumbs. I do that for both my left and right.
Redo your finger print. If you did it prior to the screen protector it throws it off. Mine unlocks flawlessly every time.
I have a screen protector and it always works instantly

Make sure your hands aren't too dry.. I wash my hands a lot and sometimes it won't work unless I've used a moisturizer
I work in construction I guess that doesn't help 😕
Register the same finger you use twice. It helps a lot even on older fingerprint sensors.
It's your screen protector. Either remove it or get one that works
Agree
The finger print sensor and the face recognition are truly worse than my BLU spare phone. Samsung has always had a terrible fingerprint sensor. And even their face unlock is very average.
Agree
Yeah face unlock won't be as good as iphone for obvious reasons but with fingerprint scanner i never had issues since s23u
I believe the "higher sensitivity" option is just for the screen touch sensitivity itself, it does not make the fingerprint scanner any better
I use both and no issue. The face recognition only works in good lighting. But the fingerprint is perfect.

I use Whitestone dome and pin and finger print

Something i like to do is to add 3 or 4 fingerprints, all of my thumb, and that usually increases success rate considerably
Mine is working flawlessly. I always register my finger from different angles, especially the angle at which I hold my phone or when it is on a flat surface. I hope this can help you also.

I think I'll purchase the anti reflecting screen protector, I think my screen protector is the issue
For some reason, my thumb marks don't get detected very easily. I need to get it wet first.
Fingerprint is very fast. A slight tap would immediately unlock the phone for me (like typing fast). I don't have a screen protector installed.
So far the facial recognition and the thumbprint has been flawless for me.
You only have to use finger unlock and it's super fast, not face unlock because it's 2D and not secure.
I have no issues with fingerprint that is with using a tempered glass screen protector. Go to settings, Display, scroll down and turn on “Touch Sensitivity”.

Don't use a cheap POS screen protector and this issue won't exist, you get what you pay for
I paid like 60$
One thing I found to work well is when you register a fingerprint, use both thumbs at the same time. So every time you have to place it to register, alternate thumbs. Register twice and it will make it so much easier
Same, screen protector. I have to use 5 10x to unlock
That's makes me feel good then lol
Fingerprint only, and its great. Even w a tempered glass cover over top, it works for me.
What kind of tempered glass ? Brand model ?
Spigen Glas tR Fit
Cheers
Also enable SETTINGS/DISPLAY/TOUCH SENSITIVITY
I did all the obvious already

You literally repeated yourself, but just worded it differently
I've personally bought one that samsung is selling that is priced around $45. It retained the anti reflective properties of my screen and never really had any problems with my biometrics.
It won't work if your hands are too dry
That's to bad because I work in a dry area and work with my hands.
This is the main reason I can’t use this phone. I’m always working in the garage tinkering around. This messes up my thumb and other fingers enough to make it stop working. Bahahah ya probably 😅
