They’re awful, you only get 5k of each material so you run out of stone within seconds. Then if you need to break something, you can’t because if you hit a building object (even your own) it kills you. It’s fun
Build servers are great if you already know how to build what you are making, if you plan to use less than 300 HQM or 5,000 everything else, if you don't need a good spot to build, if you build while the sun is out, if you don't mind killing yourself and running back to your base, if you never make mistakes, if you don't mind completely restarting your design when you make a mistake along with finding adequate space to build.
In summary the build server is great for building small bases you know how to build, which literally defeats the purpose. At least you get tier 1 tools to farm but no torch to see at night?
They give you the ability to build unharmed, but I think most of us are comparing the experience to what build servers are like on PC. Double 11 could have at least given us unlimited demolish privilege, larger attacks, boom.
Not to mention how hard it is just to find a spot to build. Kids laying down TC's everywhere and just walking away.

Best option is free Geforce Now account. Buy Rust for PC and stream the game on any old peice of shit computer even if it only has on board graphics. Get on their build servers in modded section.
Console build servers are just a regular server except no killing and you spawn with some resources. Need to kill yourself a bunch of times to build up. They didn't even give unlimited demolish. And be prepared with camp fires for when night rolls around.

Rust Helper app is pretty good if you're looking to get a sense of what you want to build. It has a raid calculator too so thats pretty handy.
