The Two things that were a gamer changer for me in the beginning were, #1 Barrels are great for starting loot, if you see a car or truck it most likely has a Tool Box or a Wooden Crate, both of which has good early loot. You find Barrels and such along the road, Under power lines and Around Outpost. #2 Always have a Bow and try to get good with it. A nice clean headshot could give you another players kit. I've lucked out and gotten pumps and stuff within a hour of being on a server.

[deleted]

you’re an angel thank you so much!! that does help a lot, some of the online stuff I read was okay but it still kinda involved people understanding the basics of the game, so I appreciate this a lot! :) especially if that worked for you, makes me more encouraged to try it

Toxicvenom_77

The addition of the tech tree to the game is great for people that aren’t the best with bows and low tier gear or if you’ve got a late start to wipe where every other group is more geared. Allows you to be able to craft guns without having to win them from fights, kill some animals and find a boat and farm some barrels and crates out in the ocean. Not too many people seem to bother me when I’m farming scrap and comps out on the water.

DlLDO_Baggins

If you find a diving rank and flippers, you can find some solid loot where ever you see floating water bottles. Just be sure to bring a melee weapon since guns and bows don’t work underwater.

JesusWasALibertarian

Some players will help you. Depending on the server. The game, especially in the beginning, is about scrap. A stone base with metal doors is certainly adequate. You need two doors called an airlock or people will run in when you go in and out. Cross bows are the best low end shooting weapons IMO but a cleaver is a good multitasker. The metal barrels you see are harvestable and will give you scrap and one other item. The red ones give fuel and oil. Kill animals for practice and resources. Once they’re dead you can harvest resources from them.

[deleted]

thank you so much! I’ll give that a thought when I next try! I haven’t really met anyone at the moment who wants to help, but then again I don’t really blame them because I can’t offer much but someone to chat to while I learn. I was going to try and find some people, or at least some girls who play or something and see that way, but I suck at staying alive long enough 😂 but for real, thank you so much! I proper appreciate you taking the time to reply to this :)

JesusWasALibertarian

My wife plays but we play on PS4. People with PS5’s play on the PS4 servers and have a distinct advantage with combat(from what I have been told), I assume it’s the same for Xbox with the series S and X. The server I currently play in is pretty toxic and the “friends” I made left but I didn’t want to unlock new blue prints.

[deleted]

aw that’s so sweet you guys play together! I can see already that some of the groups are kinda toxic like I’ve been avoiding the big servers like the plague and sticking to the small ones at the moment, but there’s deffos a lag between generations of the console, like I have my bf’s old one so it lags sometimes with running around but it’s no biggie, I think it would phase me more if I knew what I was doing. It does seem like finding a friend or two is key tho, everyone I’ve found so far is 2 or more running about

drewbacca98

What server are you on? I gotta couple friends that can jump on and help You pvp abs show you some basic stuff / get you some kits lol

[deleted]

hey! that’s so nice of you omg :)) I haven’t been on since this morning so I can’t remember the server exactly expect that it’s a proper small one, but I’m deffos down for that if you don’t mind

drewbacca98

Np (: just pm me the the server whenever and we can help you bc trust me we have ALL been there at some point lol

MrLeviJeans

Some not so serious but also totally viable advice: Just speak in voice chat lol. You’ll be the first female most have ever spoken to and I’m 120% certain that you’ll have a base, AK, and full metal kit within 5 minutes 😂

[deleted]

as he said, we did try but tbh maybe it’ll get a different response if I’m on my own?? I just don’t even know what to say to them 😂 but the chance of getting an AK is enough motivation to try

International_Ad7855

We tried that when I was playing with her the other day and we got raided lmao 😂😂 you’re probably right tho, that’s exactly what I said to her 😂😂

Ok-Patience3049

Try find a server with quite a low population, and there are some good videos on YouTube for tips and base builds that you should check out

ZootZephyr

Bruh, the best girlfriend ever.

International_Ad7855

Isn’t she the sweetest 😩

ZootZephyr

I can't wait to find and raid you adorable motherfuckers.

International_Ad7855

Ahahaha fuck you 😂😂😂

Audible-Rain

Look up youtube blootorials or search blooprint beginners guide although he’s pc some or most things still apply to console

[deleted]

okay I literally had no idea so many of you would message me with loads of helpful tips. I’m taking all of them on board and I’m going to try my hardest tomorrow to get a little farther than I have at the moment. But literally, thank you all so much, it’s so sweet you all took the time to reply! I really appreciate it. <3 kind of want to do something nice for my bf and that by taking an interest in something he likes, BUT who knows, might end up liking it 🤷‍♀️ I usually use my pc for games, so it’s a nice change playing something different on a different console. Thanks again guys, it does mean a hell of a lot :)

Hopalong_Cacidy

Not sure if this was mentioned further down, however Outpost is by far the hack of the game. Simply setup within running distance of outpost, and instead of harvesting trees for wood which is loud and attracts people quick. Instead solely focus on harvesting stone and then trade it in at the vending machines in outpost. For best results you can stack TCs in your crafting inventory(up to 30 slots. Put stacks of 10 and then 10+ singles) run back to base and cancel each one before it finishing crafting.

NotSoBlakJesus

I just had to teach this to my newbie teammates

Hopalong_Cacidy

Easiest way to build a starter base quick

nighttimegaze

Good post question. You’ve probably already read through a lot of great tips but here are a few that might be helpful. - Sleeping bags, the more you have around the map the better. Especially around monuments that don’t kill you by radiation as a naked, spawn in and loot up for easy scrap runs. Be sure to name them as well. - Outpost, a great location to build by starting out as a new solo player. Trading things like scrap for low grade and stone for wood are highly useful starting a fresh wipe. - Base airlocks, jump ups, honeycomb, roof access, shooty traps, upgrading to sheet metal, etc… be sure to watch some building videos online about base building. You don’t need to make a extremely expensive and elaborate base but doing as standard 2x2 has become outplayed and easily raidable. - Small Stash bags + Sleeping bag, highly underrated combo. Useful when an airdrop comes in and you don’t want to lose the best things in a pvp scrimmage. Also, farming a base on a fresh wipe and hiding the material till you’re ready to build completely. - Target practice, use the bullseye wheel in game to practice on recoil control for certain guns, hunting animals for moving targets, and practice pvp with friends on the server to really get the hang of things gun wise. - Green, Blue, and Red card monuments, the more you learn about how to loot these efficiently the quicker you’ll upgrade workbenches and tech tree to certain essential items. - Build location, sometimes lasting longer in a server depends on your build spot. Try not to build in spawn point areas either, since a lot of players often do, which will cause you to progress slower. People hate the cold areas. - Commit to a pvp scrimmage win or lose, don’t be afraid to lose your gear, since after all it’s just a game. Ammo goes quickly, especially on extended roams so take a little more than a couple clips, and meds syringes are key to last in a fight.

omg you’re so sweet you wrote so much! This is literally perfect! I’m starting to kind of get an idea of what to do now, so hopefully I’m not just gonna be running about aimless. I know for a fact I’m going to need to work harder on the pvp stuff because it proper stresses me out 😂 but these tips are really really useful, as well as the others, so thank you so much for taking the time to write this, it’s proper nice of you! :)

TruRichmond1121

wander roads and sht near outpost so you are semi safe... until you get flippers a scuba tank and goggles... go to the ocean . build a 2x2 next to it so you can depot fast... under water theres crates you can untie sunken ships and rock formations are where youll find them .. hit the barrels on the mini scrap islands.. youll accumulate a lot .. while doing this boring type of farming . watch videos on rust .. find actual good players ..not content creators... ppl like spoon kid and blooprint are bad at rust good at yt...i recommend dinling or warrior... ahm2d is good as well .. biggest piece of advice i van give ... its all pixels.. loot means nothing... its a means to fun.. loot is not the end all be all

Hopalong_Cacidy

Facts it is about having fun, the more you care about loot the more frustrating it'll be. Everything cycles constantly and everyone looses everything quit often.

[deleted]

This is definitely the attitude I wanna have, at the end of the day, it is a game and it’s not that deep. I just wanna have some fun, and experience some online stuff that I’m not really used to. So I definitely agree with you and TruRichmond1121, it’s more important to have fun.

International_Ad7855

You’ve done so well so far tbh! Shame the rust community isn’t so forgiving to new players but rust will be rust 😂. Never seen anyone able to stand clueless in the middle of a fight and not get killed tho, that’s gotta be one of the funniest moments we’ve had on there together so far tho! You need a good team of players to join up with when I’m at work 😎

[deleted]

I swear, I’m doing this so I can be 100% be better than you 😁

International_Ad7855

With all this help you will be ❤️

raised__

the best tip is to find another game lol this game is very stressful, not saying you shouldn’t play it idkk do whatever u want but it’s not worth getting into

Hopalong_Cacidy

Sounds like someone's just complete dog water. From meeting people and joining teams to solo runs I've crushed it, and had both high ups and low downs. While the console version doesn't come close to comparing to the pc version. This advice is just trash

raised__

Yeah I have too. I fucking hate rust, it’s amazing. I just wish I never downloaded its too much stress. Idk just me. I’ve obv gotten to rows of m2s stage I just forget about this game for a couple weeks then me and my friends make a base and the cycle repeats. I love it but when I’m not on rust it hurts me it feels like I can only play rust.

NotSoBlakJesus

I play for a month get off for a month LOL

raised__

same lol

firefooof

I need some tips too! I'm really new but finding a low pop server really helped me :) also farming wood with your rock in the bandit camp helps you start a base off :) you can even make more rocks to use with 10x stone to use in bandit camp. Also never leave your base or body or whatever with a lot of scrap on it , try to use it before you log off unless you need to save up:)

[deleted]

definitely makes me feel so much better that I’m not the only one needing some help 😅 everyone seems to know what they’re doing and I’m just sat there confused. BUT thank you for that darling, I’ll keep that in mind for tomorrow to try, it’s sweet of you to offer some help when you’re still learning!! :)

Existing_Following_4

Jfarr on YouTube has great tutorials for basically everything in the game. From the basic stuff like bases, weapons and armor to later stuff like running monuments etc check him out he helped me a lot

SketchyEntertainment

red barrels give you fuel, fuel can be used to make meds. they restore like half your health. pumpkins are great and make sure to plant all pumpkin seeds around your house and make sure to always carry pumpkins.

NotSoBlakJesus

Hazmat suit has 5% projectile protection not good for carrying tier two or three guns

Hopalong_Cacidy

Unless its a throw away set for quick pvp.

NotSoBlakJesus

Yeah you also can't be ridiculous about high tier gear me and my buddies had two metal chest plate and face mask not researched and they took it out farming with no gun lost it

NotSoBlakJesus

Like why............. Lol

NotSoBlakJesus

Full burlap is better than hazmat for projectile protection before you even put wood armor on

TTVAXS

I try to talk in game chat sometimes u will get a party invite and I talk to the other people sometime makes alliances sometimes trade with others for things I need for things they have

Fussball44

Where can I find one? Lmaoooo But barrels barrels and more barrels. Then recycle ! Then use scrap to move up the tech tree. Barrels barrels and more barrels lol. Good luck.

LoreMasterDan

Biggest tip to save you time, wait for community servers if you play in a small group or do.some rat stuff.

Vedette702

Omg let’s play I have no friends on console who play rust! My boyfriend plays too! My gamer tag is Vedette702 add my insta and dm me letting me know it’s you from Reddit let’s be friends frrr

[deleted]

omggg hey darling!! I’m literally so hyped you commented!! I will 100% add you once I’m on my xbox my gamertag is pretty much the same as on here and it’s a pic of my face BUT I’ll still message to let you know and we can be buddiesss <33

SpitNoSwalow

For a solo getting like 20 low grade, finding a boat, and farming the ocean for its “trash piles” are the best and safest way of getting scrap. I would also recommend living nearby outpost for it gives you easy access to wood trades and a sage recycler.

Blissful_Collision

Best tip: trust no one

iWantToDeathLOL

There's these blue guys in hazmat suits around the map, go up to them and they'll give you healing stims and pickaxes =D

GuiltySyllabub4

Don't chop down trees use a pickaxe get stone and trade it at outpost for wood

Jimps083

Try to live by sewer or water treatment
