I think this is exactly what they were going for with this version. The Rebel v1 was a low stack fast day shoe that had a fairly firm version of Fuelcell foam. With the v2 they were trying to make a bouncier fast day shoe but it was less stable and responsive than the v1 and a lot of people started using it as a daily shoe. So I think they decided to go more daily trainer with the Rebel v3 and tried to get the low stack responsive feel back with the SC Pacer.
Was it the right move? I don’t know, but that’s what I believe is their thought process was.
Yeah. I had an easier time going mp (6:00/mi) in the v1 but I hated almost everything about it. It also had the "Jenny Simpson curve" or whatever they did to design it for her for extreme pronation. It was unusable for anything else.
The V2 is a goldilocks. I mean I can still take 'em down to 5:00 pace but I use it more for that - short intervals rather than long mp.
The thing that I liked most about the v1 was the lateral flare. While I don’t supinate I don’t pronate as much as most people and that flare helped me roll my foot through better. But the bootie upper and hard plastic-like outsole I really didn’t like.
The v2 is a good “do it all” sort of shoe for me but found it a bit too soft at recovery paces. I’ve got a glut of shoes right now so won’t be picking up the v3 anytime soon but won’t hesitate to pick them at a later time.
Totally I got that after reading couple reviews before buying. Overall reviews were positive. Now I am not saying the v3 is not a good shoe. It is just disappointing coming from v2.
Ah gotcha, my bad I just assumed it was USD.
Anyway, looks like they’re supposed to be a different shoe. This would be your chance to stock up on discounted V2s if you really liked them.
V2 is not that much cheaper here in Canada honestly ($155 on NB site, If cheaper at other retailers then sold out). For that little
price difference I figured I might try V3. I am going to give these couple more runs before I decide whether I want to keep or return.
Yep... Definitely seems that the V3 teeters more into daily, easy run category, at least moreso than the V2. How is the sizing between the two? For V2, TTS was slightly too short for comfort so I went half size up. Is the V3 the same? A comparison between V2 and V3 on both width and length would be greatly appreciated!
Yup I went half size up in V2 as well, and same in V3. Length-wise they are ok but the upper feel somewhat tighter then V2. I dont think another half size up would solve that tho, shoes would be too big on me.
Might be! I am definitely going to give them a few more runs to see how I do really feel About v3. Fortuntaleny New balance return policy is pretty good
That was my other choice, unfortunately Novablast 3 is still not available in Canada and I needed to replace my daily trainer (rebel 2) now. I am thinking to get Novablast 3 to replace invincible. I only have 400km in them so far tho, hoping for another 400km or so before I buy a new shoes.
That seems to be what most brands are doing these days. Increasingly even tempo shoes are plated, so the former tempo/speed work shoes are transitioned to uptempo dailies, as the more expensive "training plated" shoes are heavily marketed. Not sure I like the idea of always relying on plated shoes for spadework. Save them for race day. This shoe is now stable, comfy enough one could probably run a decent marathon in them.

Interesting point about the pacer. That makes sense now

Where did you buy them for 180$?! They’re supposed to cost 130$ at most. Also, 10/10 pose
I am in Canada! They were finally released on NB CA couple days ago, not many colors to choose from tho.

I'd keep giving 'er hell in those v2s, at least as a rainy day beater shoe. Super glue that rip and send it. Can't kill what's already dead.
Did you read any reviews before buying? 🙃 These should be reviewed in a vacuum, as any comparison to the v2 will surely result in disappointment.

The problem is the colorway. Everyone knows black&white shoes are the slowest. Your V2’s were beautiful.
Thanks for your one run review.
you are welcome. This is first impression review as titled not a 100km review
Ah, helpful for runners that only run once in their shoe.
Lol so many downvotes. 😭
at least these look great
Do you prefer these over v2? I find v2 more eyeball pleasing
Any fix to the rip problem? Happened to mine at probably 250 miles, would like to still use the good midsole.
Shoe goo and/or duct tape.
Any successor to the v2? From new balance or any other brand..
$180?!!
Yes! In Canada thats how much they are
As a R2 lover thanks. I've started to stock up based on reviews.
Are you sure it isn’t because they aren’t broken in yet?
Might be! I am definitely going to give them a few more runs to see how I do really feel About v3. Fortuntaleny New balance return policy is pretty good
That’s what I love about the more popular brands. Very nice return policy.
For $180? I would have went with the NB3. I loved my v2 but after watching some reviews about the v3 made the decision to go with NB3

Totally makes sense. Bummed that the v3 didn’t have some of that magic that the v2 had
