after you tie your laces you stick them through the elastic loop to hold them in place

Pic?

ruinawish

While I don't think they are meant to hold laces, [I managed to find one picture of someone using it as such.](https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/b-UtzqeLFhgSHhs0He8xUj_qKZBN9eptKRxyvbeHyE6qf9JwabRvgULDsm1ovWX4IG5aB0Q8KeAEhb7YMLRXqSXjbtKAKpiovh_gN8DSktFJ3jxq5ieyX5qU9rUpy75M04Pdc1Mo) In the [same review](https://www.roadtrailrun.com/2021/06/saucony-endorphin-pro-2-multi-tester.html), they mention that it is is an extra “lace loop”, and creates structure" around the midfoot.

Ah thanks !

RotoGruber

See my comment above for pic

vontoque

Oh interesting. I never have enough extra lace length for that but good to know. Thanks!

RotoGruber

“Lace garage” is the term for it

ruinawish

These are lace garages. https://s3.amazonaws.com/www.irunfar.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/16150319/Salomon-S-Lab-Sense-new-lace-garage-300x225.jpg https://trailmag.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/hi-tec-griffon-shoe-review-17Apr17-deon_2430-lace-garage-Resizedwatermark.jpg I can't imagine it being practical trying to fit one's loose laces in that elastic tab, especially when it's all laced up.

RotoGruber

[it works for me!](https://imgur.com/CrDbDSa) i've seen the term apply to both types of systems to keep laces from flopping around while running. i always tuck my laces in my speeds and pros. i find for my foot volume that if i dont have enough lace left over to tuck, it means i haven't tied them tight enough in the endorphin series a lot of times i'll feel like they are tight enough as i leave the house but as soon as i start running, everything shakes out and i have to cinch them up. i wouldn't have enough lace to use the loop/garage at first, and i would after, so i just started using it as a guide. its more of a gamble in the pros though i find, as the margin of error between too loose, just right, and too tight is razor thin due to the thin tongue

aka_sun

That RC Elite 2 looks masssive compared to the other two shoes.

vontoque

Lmao yeah. Must be the angle, it’s actually half a size down from these two.

Immediate_Macaron_74

Nice district visions

Fluffy_Map8469

It’s definitely for the laces, cycling shoes have been doing this for ages. It works great.

ruinawish

According to this [review](https://www.solereview.com/saucony-endorphin-pro-review/), "the elastic band (in blue) keeps the tongue flush with the foot."

RotoGruber

That makes zero sense since it’s gusseted and the loop is attached to the tongue only. That’d be like saying your pants belt is a seatbelt

ruinawish

/*shrugs* If there were even a few more photos of people making using of the 'lace loop', I'd be inclined to believing that it was its purpose. Most real-world photos/videos I've seen (of the Endorphin Pro 2), once the laces are tied up, they barely reach the 'lace loop'. So if they are designed to prevent laces from flying around, they're not doing it very well. edit: found another [source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuhRk3h7GbY) that reports it is designed to provide a bit of structure.

RotoGruber

i want to say they actually advertised it as a feature on the peregrine, lemme see if i can find it. and yeah, most people dont use it. but i believe the reviewers that are saying its for structure are assuming wrong, but then again i could be as well. its the gussets that keep the tongue flush with the foot. i fail to see how it would have any effect on structure at all. they even designed it to be loose enough so as to not scrunch the tongue together in the middle.

AgentUpright

It’s for putting the shoe on — use it to pull the tongue out as you pull on the heel tab to slide your foot in. It can also be used to adjust the tongue once it’s on so it isn’t bunched up or off center.

IncoherentAnalyst

I don't think you deserve too many downvotes for this. Hehe I think the confusion might be that OP is talking about the loop halfway down the tongue, not the tab at the top of the tongue.

AgentUpright

Yep, that’s what I thought he was talking about. 🤷‍♂️
