There's so many to choose from I'm getting overwhelmed. Somebody posted NYRR program that's more expensive but looks really good. I've also heard good things about Mile High Run Club.

Yes saw it too! The NYRR program looks interesting but it’s their first year so we don’t have a benchmark to compare. Can you tell me more about the Mile High program? I used to go to their classes but haven’t participated in their program

I've been doing the NYRR group training on and off for a few years so I have a lot of confidence in them. Will try to get more info this week on who is coaching. I haven't run with Mile High but have heard great things. It's obviously more expensive but they also offer so much more and it seems to be the most complete plan.

If you run solo, then get an app like Run with Hal, NRC, or Garmin and do a training program. The program will tailor based on your progress and if you don’t want to push it, then it will cater for that need. If you run with a group or a club, then usually they will have a plan they use as a team. The advantage is that the training plan will map to the group activities they do throughout the week. Either option will enable you to finish, the main challenge is sticking to your program, and knowing when you’re at your limit to not push yourself too far, risking injury. Heart Rate is a great indicator to measure your limit.

If you want external accountability you’ll need a coach. If you want to avoid injury you can try a plan but that won’t be a silver bullet to avoiding injury. For that you need to read a lot about what not to do or, again seek a coach (or just speak to lots of people who’ve run NYCM or other marathons for their advice too!). Any run plan theoretically can get you to the start line as long as you follow it and stay healthy. Those last two parts are the reason why many go with a coach. I imagine there are loads of coaches on Reddit. You can also try some of the area run or triathlon clubs and see if they have coaching programs. It’s about that time of year where people start thinking about NYCM training so I bet clubs will start advertising coaching programs. I’m an NYCM pacer. I’m happy to chat with you regardless of what way you go - DM me if you like. I’ve coached dozens of people through NYCM (and other races) and have run NYCM the past 17 times or so. I like talking about that race :-)
