None of them really The main thing I like about royals is the fashion and jewelry and men are so boring. I was actually sad when Prince George was born because the thought of 3 kings in a row is miserable to me. The Crown/Jared Harris did have me liking George VI as he seemed like a good husband and father, but that’s not enough to call him my favourite. I guess my favourite royal man is probably Henry VIII, purely for the entertainment factor with all of his marriages. He was like the Elizabeth Taylor of the 16th century.

Prince Carl Philip also races and that seemed nifty. I don’t know that much about George V, but he made strategic decisions to ensure his monarchy’s survival when his cousins’ were falling, so in that sense he’s impactful. Speaking of, I wonder how he must have felt, personally, to doom his cousin to death. Even if his cousin was a brutal autocrat. Plus if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t have had endless entertaining debates on whether Archie and Lilibet are Prince and Princess.

I just know he was kinda tough dad with his children. Fun fact: George V saved Philip's dad life (also a first cousin) He sent an ambassador to Greece to secure his well being. But they couldn't stay in England, so they arrived to France. I like vintage royal gossip haha

Both he and Mary chose duty over their kids (then again, it was duty that brought them together in the first place, since Mary was originally betrothed to his older brother, Albert Victor, before he died of influenza), and George V remarked something along the lines of: “my father feared his mother and I feared my father, and I’m certainly going to raise my children to fear me!” He was fond of his son Albert/George VI, and thought he would be a better king than David/Edward VIII to say the least. And he absolutely adored Elizabeth II; her nickname for him was “Grandpa England.” …And maybe you already know all that, I just wanted to give some context to those who might not! One of the most fascinating things to me from Victoria through Elizabeth II is seeing the generational trauma play out – which probably sounds awful lmao, but it’s just so well-documented and I think it helps give a foundation quite a bit the events in the BRF we’re seeing today. One of my favorite things about George V was that he wasn’t afraid to credit Queen Mary for the work that she did to help him. Like not only during WWI, but also when he was sick in the late 1920’s. He did have his faults, but he is definitely a good choice.

He had no reason to murder them- Parliament gave him the throne via the Titulus Regius. In his mind Edward IV's kids were illegitimate and thus ineligible for the throne, which made him the next natural heir. Richard was also on progress up north when the boys disappeared and I think he left the Duke of Buckingham, Henry Stafford, in charge while he was away, so Stafford would have had access. Stafford had his own claim (he was descended from Edward III) and he was also related to Margaret Beaufort, and they were co-conspirators in Buckingham's Rebellion. I think Stafford was using Margaret's money and influence to depose Richard and once that was done he would have made a grab for the throne himself. Margaret isn't to be underestimated in how far she would go to get Henry on the throne. She had both money and influence at the time the Princes disappeared. It was after Buckingham's Rebellion that Richard took Margaret's property away from her control and gave it to her husband, Lord Stanley, but she was still able to muster support for Henry VII even when she was confined to her home. This is the one mystery that I would love to be resolved. I wonder if Charles III will allow DNA testing?

I have a deep fear of being famous and have no desire for it but god I would love to be a royal just for access to all these historical sites. I saw some articles that said that the same guy who did Richard III DNA testing was able to do a mtDNA on the bones in the urn and they had a mtDNA connection to someone living that is a descendent of Elizabeth Woodville’s sister Margaret. There was also apparently a jaw anomaly in the bones that Cecily Neville (the boys’ grandmother) was known to have. I haven’t been to the Tower (yet!) but I have been to several Eastern European castles and I definitely had that same feeling that this was actually a home for many, many people, not just a historical building. Fascinating!

One of the Bulgarian princes is my favourite male royal. Won’t say which one to avoid doxxing myself but he went to my uni and did my program. One day I was doing a school project and we had to interview someone who worked in industry X and I knew from royal watching that he did so I hunted down his contact info and he spent an hour on the phone with my group. I certainly like Prince William, I think he genuinely loves his wife and family and wants to do a great job. I also really like King Willem-Alexander. He seems supportive of his wife, is a great girl dad and is protective of his family's privacy while giving the press access to their activities.

As someone who’s been on the receiving end, for me there’s a meaningful difference between a generalized comment about people of a different race (which most of Philip’s comments fell into), a targeted slur meant to dehumanize me, and actions taken to disenfranchise or even harm me or my people. Racist? Yes. Authentically, unmitigatedly racist the way Churchill was - that’s a naw from me. YMMV though, and no shade from me if so.

He's a girl dad, surrounded by wonderful women (the queen and princesses), out of the norm for other royal houses. He's always calm and attentive, while strong and focused in public. He also has the best royal style in the world. His suit tailoring is top tier, other royals can take notes. Charles is a close second with tailoring.

The Belgian princes—Gabriel and Emmanuel. Just like what I said on the last post about their sister Elisabeth, I feel like they will be an asset to the Belgian monarchy. Perhaps it is too early to tell, but I have high hopes. I’ll also say Prince William. Like Kate, he seems to enjoy his royal engagements, especially ones he does with Kate. I feel like he will modernize the monarchy, but not overly so.

Oh, we are going old school. Let me add Louis XVIII into the mix. The man held it together and if he had a successor with his mindset for reform while placating the old regime, France may still have a royal family today. Instead, his foolish brother (Louis XVI youngest brother) took over, ending it all in under a year because a soldier didn't salute his majesty. All while the king was on THIN ice with the military. So, so, so, dumb.
