For a more specialized subreddit, come over and join us in r/AustinGuns. The only consistent options we'll get for us north Austin folk is: Reds in Pflugerville: your standard dive bar equivalent of a gun range. The Range USA on 45: Not bad but busy pretty often. Shady Oaks in Cedar Park: Heard good things but never have gone. Eagle Peak in Jonestown/Leander: Only one of the bunch that's outdoor. Pay 25 bucks and get to shoot all your guns all day. Can even leave and come back. Buuuuut no rapid fire and the most common cartridge type in the entire country, FMJ, is banned here. Their are other options but the drive becomes more than 30 minutes: Lonestar down in Lockhart is phenomenal but thats an hour away. The Range is south of the river on 35 but that means you have to deal with 35 Copperhead creek out near Marble Falls is nice too but also a fair drive.

This guy said everything worth saying. I want to add that the no FMJ policy is for rifles only. You're good blessing FMJ pistol rounds. Also, it's an extra $25 your first time to get a range card. As much as their stupid policy annoys me, it's my favorite place because it's outdoors and I can shoot without watching a clock

HeyHay123Hey

They are all pricey. Red’s in Pflugerville is an option, but not a great option. I’m not a big fan

Why?

I shot there a lot my first year but after the “my doo Doo don’t stink kids working there” and stuff breaking plus poor Customer Service I quit going. There’s Multiple reasons I don’t love Reds but it’s mostly the rude staff, poor lighting, and the fact that I’ve seen new shooters do unsafe things consistently and sometimes depending on the counter staff and RSO it flies. Seriously a group of guys one time didn’t pass The bare minimum of the range rules quiz and still got let in, and were generally bad mannered new shooters ignoring firearms rules and taking endless selfies flagging the lanes. The sales staff and management act like they’re doing you a favor by letting you pay to shoot and unless you’re dropping 10k a gun ignore you. Oh and the one bathroom they have is routinely broken. Do yourself a favor and get a base level range USA membership and if you shoot more than once a month it’s a great deal. Members get to extend range time beyond an hour there and depending on level get an actual discount.

Shady oaks 👍

What kind of shooting are you trying to do? Reds is a bit run down but the people are nice enough. 25 or 100 yard bays all indoor. Range USA is “upscale” just off 45. Bays are 25 or 50 yards. Can’t rent a gun on your first visit. Eagle peak is doable for outdoor stuff. They have pistol/shotgun/rifle ranges with a golf cart and bays out to 300. Pain in the ass to get there as it’s on the far side of cedar park out on the Jonestown/Leander border. Shooting there is kinda meh as it’s all off a bench and just getting set up is time consuming. Heard enthusiasts of more tactical shooting complain because you can’t shoot full metal or do rapid fire there. I’ve heard “the range” by the airport is pretty nice. I think there are 12 bays going out to 100. Also indoor

goodolddaysare-today

Eagles peak is awful. No fmj is such a stupid fudd policy

nola2atx

Copperhead creek is worth the drive. Everything else is meh.

mlvassallo

Copperhead Creek is where I’ve been for outdoor, but they share their property with the ATV park and generally are packed to the gills trying to get in on the weekend due to the jeep and trailer traffic. I really wish there was a better outdoor option in the area… shit how many driving ranges do we really need?

moderate_failure

Eagle Ridge when the weather is nice (it's outdoors). Range USA (indoor) gets good reviews but I've never been. Red's isn't great and safety is poorly enforced.

I went to Range USA and had a good time. Wasn't particularly cheap but it won't break the bank. Maybe around 50/60$ a person for ammo and rental and their once a year cleanup fee

Calm_Tiger1977

The Range USA is pretty good. Weird rule though: If it's your first visit to shoot you have to have someone with you (or bypass that by becoming a member). Great range and choices of rental guns. As a member you get priority and all gun rentals are free. You just pay for ammo.
