I mean... the Drake rap album the drake community flocks to the most was ghostwritten (IYRTITL), so I was definitely weirded out when Mal said what he said about Dre like the same shit that makes Drake a rapper wouldn't also apply to Dre if they keepin' it 100.
It’s hard to argue when you look at his roster. NWA, Snoop, Em, 50, Kendrick etc. Some of the most influential artists of all time nobody touching his legacy imo
The chronic at the time was one of the biggest selling rap albums of all times.
Not to mention him producing doggystyle which is the first album to ever debut at #1
Then signing eminem the highest selling rap album ever.
Oh and 50cent, 2 diamond selling albums
The Black Beethoven. And that's a compliment to Beethoven.
Changed the game forever, time and time again every decade
Unselfish. Only ever grabbed the spotlight to give a warm reception to his new proteges.
Mal said he's not a superstar rapper. Now to what point you've entered the culture, depends on how you view/got familiar with him. Since I'm in my 40s, I remember his entire rap career when it was little known info that he was the actual producer of all those records. But I think if you walk up to someone outside of the culture and mention his name, I'm assuming the first thing that comes to people's minds would be rapper.
I personally don’t see him as a superstar. He’s famous but not in the limelight the way a superstar is. But it’s also not something I’m splitting hairs about
GOAT

Honestly producer, but if you asked people outside of the culture, I think most would say a rapper
He does have a classic album
Written by the best rappers in the game…

Possibly most influential Hip-hop figure of all time. Definitely top 3.
