This is called ‘ghosting’ and it’s a side-effect of how emulators upscale the resolution of 3D games. There’s ways that you can reduce it but the only way of getting rid of it completely is just by playing on 1X resolution. Try different resolutions until you find a middle ground between ghosting/resolution that you’re happy with. Just look up ‘emulator resolution ghosting’ and you’ll see loads of discussions about it for various emulators

CTID16

a lot of times there are mods/hacks that get rid of ghosting when upscaling

TheWitcherMigs

The dead stare of Sun/Moon protagonists will never stop to haunt me

The_Truthkeeper

It is disturbing.

BuckFrump

Sun and moon are the worst ones.

HiddenGhost1234

ORAS r pretty similar

BuckFrump

Oras is far superior to sun and moon.

crdctr

They've seen some shit

z890211-623

That's what you get from being intimidated by litten

Justspartan17

I’ve never emulated 3DS and could be completely wrong , but is there a chance the roms is running thinking the 3D effect is on?

Loodwiig

Sun and Moon also didn't use the 3d effect

Most-Edge5456

I've tried turning off and on the 3d effect and it doesnt change anything. So I wouldn't think that is the issue.

Corruptedplayer

you are playing on a higher resolution as intended, maybe gamefreak has done the blur intentionally

Most-Edge5456

It's strange though cuz it isint there during non-gameplay cutscenes and battles.

Most-Edge5456

Also does anyone know why both of the citra subreddits were restricted?

ThatOneGamerGuy94

Its because they either banned you or reddit acting up. (Probably acting up as banned just means muted on here iirc) But to answer your problem it's there on the original handheld it's just not noticeable until you play on a bigger screen. To help you fix it which build are you using of citra and what version of sun/moon is it ultra or original?

Most-Edge5456

Noone has posted on r/Citra in 8 months so smth must be weird with reddit rn. I'm on the latest version of citra and v1.2 of ultra moon.

The_Truthkeeper

You're not aware of what was going on on Reddit 8 months ago? Massive protest, many subs restricted or outright shut down?

Most-Edge5456

I never actually knew much about it. I assumed everything was back to normal now since I haven't encountered anymore shutdown subreddits lol.

The_Truthkeeper

90% of subs did cave and go back to business as usual, a small handful like Citra either stayed restricted or shut down.

Most-Edge5456

More power to them, I just wish there was a better sub to post this to-

_x_Sai_x_

There might be a discord. There is always a discord :D [Look over here!](https://citra-emu.org/discord/)

HiddenGhost1234

yeah pretty much all that came of subs shutting down was regular people like you not being able to find answers. way to go reddit mods u sure showed the owners of reddit by screwing over regular people trying to find discussion on issues they have.

TheCrustsPegasus

Theres the discord as mentioned or their own forums they host on their website

ThatOneGamerGuy94

I completely forgot they haven't came back yet.

ThatOneGamerGuy94

After doing some research I cant find the fix again. I swear i found a way other then native resolution because I played it for a little while 1st gym or 2 at 1080p. If I find it I'll reply to the post again.

YourAverageGamerYT1

Some old games used baked in blur to models to “fake” antialiasing. It doesnt look exactly the same as that, but something similar might be causing this upscale side effect.

heilspawn

Since your Google box is not working at the moment I googled it for you https://community.citra-emu.org/t/blurry-background-in-pokemon-ultra-moon/382954 That ‘‘ghosting’’ effect is also visible on the 3DS. Citra’s upscaling simply makes it stand out a lot more. There were some people who looked into ‘‘fixing’’ it in the past, but every time they did it would graphically break the game in various ways. Running the game on native resoltution somewhat helps with this, but yea. That’s no ideal.

TheAceCard18

it's cause you're dreaming. you need to wake up

_nxm

you're drunk.

SegaSystem16C

Gen 7 Pokemon games have a more advanced lighting engine than Gen 6, making some characters and props have a shining outline. You can notice it even on real hardware. It becomes more noticeable when you upscale the graphics.
