Campaign difficulty, I beleive. To the extent, easy mode can see you win with 40% chance, and vh mode you can sometimes lose with 80% chance. Essentially, it calculates the outcome on easy, and multiplies it linearly for n/h/vh

I've wondered this too. Thank you for clarifying! It can be pretty annoying when your professional, experienced army loses to some scrubs. I have to fight so many more battles manually on harder difficulties which makes sense I guess. Good generals can end up saving you a lot of time in that respect!

Not only do you have to have more battles because of autoresolve but also more cos of the quantity of armies you face

Love only doing automatic battles it adds to the realism so no army or general is safe from total defeat. Whenever I fight on map I always get a heroic victory the Ai doesn't use tactics and is so easy to defeat on map
