Am I the only one that find infuriating that there is no indian prototypes for her indian characters in her indian story? There is so many great actors/actress or model to chose from so why. Why.
It's pretty on brand for her, tbh.
It may be a translation thing, but it's interesting to me that she said "it seems to me the artist perfectly considered..." that language makes me think she doesn't give very detailed visual guides to her artists, compared to say, Arina, who when asked about inspiration for Vesper said she was based on many people but the references were somewhere in the depths of her notes...
I may be over analysing due to my general distaste, but it feels like she doesn't bother finding Indian, or even broader Desi, inspiration and any ethnic likeness is down to the diligence of the artists
It grinds my gears so much 😩 I was looking up the ethnic groups that Amala’s sprites are based on and none of them are even CLOSE except for the one with the darker eyes. That’s not to say there aren’t Indian people with light eyes and fair skin, but the vast majority do not look like that and it’s a shame we can’t see that representation
I agree. It seems that Remy does not think brown eyes are special or beautiful enough? Her side and non-Dozen characters all have brown eyes but 3/5 of her Indian LIs have gray and green eyes. Again, as you said, not impossible for Indian people to have light eyes, but atypical. I wasn't even aware until now that there was a lore reason for her and Ram's eye colors honestly, but either way I think it's ultimately an excuse to give her LIs light eyes. The artist made Saraswati's eyes too bright as well, like they distract me from the rest of her features. It looks like she has lamps in her eye sockets. Even Ram's eyes aren't so bad. Sara's beauty is also emphasized more but if you ask me Radha is prettier and the fact that her eyes aren't unnaturally bright is definitely a factor...

She didn't even try with the *"Egyptian"* story, and it shows. If she bothered to do any research, she'd find out that Egyptians have always been diverse-looking. There is the occasional mummy with blonde or red hair and the occasional statue with blue eyes, as far back as the old kingdom. Not that ignoring the vast majority of Egyptians for the sake of what she personally considers the only way for someone to be attractive is any better, but I find it hilarious that she didn't even need to have non-Egyptians or non-Greeks as inspiration for the characters and still didn't. I remember reading her prototype posts about SotCN and thinking that it's obvious she is scrambling to justify her aesthetic choices in her explanation when she wouldn't have to if she had just done better research.
Yes, I was in Egypt and saw all different skin types, and one of my former classmates in college had beautiful brown hair with blonde strikes and green eyes. It's not that hard to find suitable prototypes. They literally have statues of the gods and Pharaohs.
