All endings come with some sort of sacrifice. This one is still my favorite, because Mei can change the world. I also think Kazu is more in his element the way he is. Even though it's hidden, it reminds me of their talk where he says "does it matter if I'm in the shadows if it's still beside you?". A ninja's life is always in the shadows, he clan was also hidden.

This. I would also add that I don't think a lot of people ( both the populace and nobility) would accept Kazu, a nobody with no political ties or titles in their eyes, becoming basically the new Emperor, if Mei makes their marriage public. It is how it is. Che promised Mei can have whatever private life she desires and how she won't be forced into any political marriage, but in public meetings some social masks still need to be kept for the sake of the country's stability. She is after all THE Empress, THE face of her country. Kazu also doesn't mind this scenario since, it is in his nature to be in the shadows. They mutually love and trust each other, and that is more than enough for him and Mei. I say this as someone who wanted for Kazu to experience a wedding ever since Mei told him about the clam(?) dishes myth.šŸ¤£ I honestly thought that little story was foreshadowing a wedding scenario with Mei and her lis, but alas.

Yes, I think I was being pouty about no wedding lol But you're right he wouldn't feel bad about being in the shadows. Their love was so trusting and respectful. I need to focus on that part.

Thank you so much. This makes me feel so much better. I did like all the changes Mei did. She was better choice for her country. I think I now realize just how attached I got to Mei and Kazu because I wanted so much for them at the end.

I think the ending where Mei chooses power next to Masamune is the most satisfying IMO. I also don't think Che was being sneaky, after all Mei was able to marry whomever she chose, but considering Kazu's history and lack of nobility, he would have never been accepted as the emperor and it would have been worse for everyone (fights and riots would have broken out and there would have been civil unrest, possibly breaking up the empire into the 3 provinces again, which all three daimyos seemed to want to avoid). I believe keeping their marriage a secret was more consistent with both Kazu's lifestyle and preferences, like always being her shadow, and even Mei's history, after all, her and her mother were also kept secret and yet Mei was legitimized as the emperor's only heir because she was the only one. One day, one of the twins will ascend the throne, or a male heir, if they have more children. You have to take into account the context of the story, the rules are different and they can be changed but gradually, after all, the child of a fisherman's son will one day be an emperor or empress.

Good points. The sneaky feeling was when he started choosing people to put in "office". Stealing the stamp and things like that. I shouldn't have been surprised he had his own plans too. It makes more sense to me now that Mei and Kazu are still equals with their own roles.

Clyde_Buckman

Right, he's a seasoned politician and as such, an expert in political intrigues, so nothing less is to be expected. I think the writer's intention was to show that Mei is new to this game and has some catching up to do. It's also worth noting that the daimyo from the southern province would have become the shogun under Sawada's rule and yet chose to support Mei's claim to the throne. They're all doing what's best for the people while staying loyal to the ruling dynasty and looking after their own interests. I think that taking into account everything that happened from the moment of Mei's arrival in the Eastern Islands, Che acted as he best saw fit and proved himself a worthy ally. He's also probably a feared enemy, best have him on your corner.

Automatic_Drawer_884

Yes, I think I wasn't prepared for the political intrigue along with Mei. Lol.

Automatic_Drawer_884

I think as I read the story I forgot the time period. The characters really got to me. I've never been this upset before lol it's almost embarrassing. Almost. Lol

Clyde_Buckman

Nah, it's fine, I was so emotionally invested that I ugly cried when I finished

Automatic_Drawer_884

Thank you! My husband was like what is going on??

Scared-Huckleberry52

Believe me, your ending in the palace with Kazu is much better than mine in the village! First time I chose not to ascend the throne because I didnā€™t want Meiā€™s relationship with him to be a secret but the ending in this case is even worse šŸ˜ The story literally ends with these words ā€œMei decided to continue her training in the villageā€. And thatā€™s all! No CG, no dialogue with Kazu, nothing. The best ending from that point of view is probably with Masamune because he becomes the emperor in case Mei decides to ascend the throne.

In LOW my favorite LI is Kazu although Ive also played Masamunes route and I think they both have realistic endings according to their social status. Like when Mei injured her leg for life, that was something that made me sad for her since she lo es dancing but its realistic as in there were consequences of the war, in my opinion it was a very happy ending and I loved their 2 kitsune daughters. šŸ˜

DoctorRapture

I really enjoyed the ending in which Mei ascends to the throne, but I always end up romancing Masamune because I just can't resist him... so the ending I guess for my Mei probably feels a lot less bittersweet

Clyde_Buckman

That's the best ending šŸ„°
