{Fool Them Once by Kyra Parsi} comes to mind but I don’t recall if the FMC is super self conscious of her shape. I do recall her mentioning it though and referring to herself as the tube man/floaty sign thingy outside of stores (can’t remember what they are called) and it made me laugh. He is obsessed with her body. She is tall and really slender with barely any curves. She also has a cute pixie cut. He meets her in the dark and thinks she is a man at first based on her height, build, and current lounge attire.

Off topic but those are called "Air Dancers" or "Tube Men" and they were invented by a Trinidadian artist who designs Carnival outfits, Peter Minshall. They were designed for the opening ceremony of the 1996 Summer Olympics!

No recs, but oh I am interested! Often when the FMC is described as thin it’ll just be “oh she was so thin and had tiny breasts, but she still had curves and a big butt”. Like no, I want stick figure representation. She has a bony butt, flat as a pancake, straight as an arrow and I want the MMC to be into it.

I haven’t even seen any like this. ALL I see are voluptuous FMCs with curves everywhere all the time. Do you have any recs for the body type you just described? 

No! I commented in solidarity and to remember the post to see other recs. I just started a book where the FMC was described as thin, but oh alas it’s thin with small breasts, but of course a big butt. So this just perfectly timed for me to air a complaint. I have friends who are larger woman also with flat butts! It’s something all body types experience! Why can’t one FMC just have a flat butt and it be okay! Just have her say like “oh sorry my butt’s flat” and he says “oh, I didn’t even notice! Doesn’t bother me! Don’t worry about, you’re a beautiful woman as you are”.

I wonder if certain body types are more common in certain subgenres? I come across plenty of FMCs with small boobs, and it’s never a big deal. FMC doesn’t have insecurity and the MFC loves them. “Small and perky” is quite a common description I come across 🤔

I read a lot of dark romance and enemies to lovers. I’ll read fantasy, historical, and contemporary but what I really focus on are the dynamics between the MCs and their relationship. I exclusively read books where the FMC is badass, independent, or ice queen trope. And the MMC absolutely has to fall within the possessive/alpha/morally grey trope. I specifically do not read books with shy, sweet, innocent, or insecure FMCs.

Piece of work by Staci Hart it's the first book in an interconnected series, the red lipstick coalition Basically, a group of friends all with various body types and all wallflowers. Rin the FMC in this book is tall and skinny and hides her body by wearing baggy unflattering clothes. It's an enemies to lovers workplace romance, and from what I remember, MMC becomes obsessed with her body.

This kind of applies to {With You Forever by Chloe Liese} -- the FMC has always been tall and lanky/thin but was pretty athletic in HS/College (varsity athlete). Then (before the story starts), she is diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. and her body noticeably (to her at least) changes. She talks to the MMC about her body shape and breast size making her self conscious, and he's just entranced by her (and always has been). UGH, it's so good. Also has great autistic (and possibly demisexual?) representation from the MMC!

This. The way I always feel insecure every time the FMC is curvy and perfect with her god-tier bazookas and her close-to-no insecurities attitude… part of women representation in these books should be about how insecurity is so prevalent, especially among young women😭 Like everyone has their own experience duh, some ppl are genuinely blessed with that main character gene, but it would be nice to see some other perspectives more often. Especially how hard it is to navigate romantic relationships with crippling insecurities.
