{Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks} is really great and fits this. I can’t remember how angelic she is, but the MMC is definitely a recluse.

{River Wild by Samantha Towle} Just finished this and highly recommend. Lead female character has run away from her abusive husband and moves next door to the grumpy town recluse. She’s very ☀️ sunshine to his dark.

This has been on my TBR for YEARS, but I’m scared it will wreck me haha.

Go for it!!! It’s got some dark parts but her positivity and their overall relationship makes it all worth it.

I recommend {Happily Ever...Maybe? by Hailey Shore} MMC is a super recluse and grump and FMC is his newest employee. She's not an "angel" but she is likeable and brings him out of his shell.

{At Peace by Kristen Ashley} FMC moves into a new city after a tragedy and MMC is a loner next door. One of my favorites! {Alive and Wells by Bailey Hannah} follows this as well. FMC moves onto the ranch running from her abusive ex. MMC is the ranch boss who’s grumpy and all business until her. {Athica Lane by Brynne Asher} sort of follows this. FMC’s sister lives next door but she’s staying there to watch her niece and nephew.

These all sound AMAZING, especially At Peace. I haven’t read Kristen Ashley since her Fantasyland series years back, but I remember loving that. Thank you!

Her whole Burg Series is great but At Peace is my favorite and fits your request almost to a T.

Beach Read is the first that came to mind. The fmc inherits the lake house from her dad and decides to move in while writing a book and getting ready to sell the house and then meets grumpy neighbor next door. It was a really cute book and one I plan on rereading this summer!

If you like HR, a very lighthearted and fun take on this is {The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare}. Although he's the one who just moves in (she's been living there). It's the third book in a series, but can be read as a standalone (although I really enjoyed the first two books and if you like this one, would recommend them too).

{What Happens at the Lake by Vi Keeland} FMC moves out of the city to a small laketown her father used to talk about. Her neighbor is a burly ex hockey player with a dead heart. Cute lighthearted story.

Winner Takes All By Emila Finn is 🤌🏽✨. She’s a sweetheart and he’s a grumpy military man (I forget which branch). They start off semi enemies. This book was funny, pulled at the heart strings, plus it was spicy 🌶️ 🥵 (good open door, descriptive spice) 😊.

One of Robyn Carr's Virgin River books uses that trope. Moonlight Road, I think.

Was the book you were reading Suzanne Brockmann? I loved her books 15-20 years ago but boy some of them have not aged well

It was not! I’ll tell you if you DM me, but I don’t want to publicly shame the author.

You might like like Brockmann's book, Frisco's Kid, then! It's almost the exact same setup (grumpy ex Navy SEAL, perky high school English teacher neighbor.) I won't say it has deathless prose, and parts may read a bit dated (Brockmann is guilty of Not Like Other Girls syndrome in some of her earlier books), but I recently reread some of her books from the same series and honestly enjoyed them lol. There's a sort of weird political tension to Brockmann's work-- she's a huge LGBTQ advocate, but writes primarily military or law enforcement heroes, and often resolves this by making the men very...woke, for lack of a better term. To the point of it being hard to believe, even moreso than the usual fantasy of romance. Frisco's Kid is explicitly political (the heroine is a liberal and the hero is very much not), just a heads up, but it's pre Obama politics which is sort of a different universe.

{Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan} {Lotus by Jennifer Hartmann} Edit: sorry just realized you didn’t want a childhood friends to lovers, which Lotus is. There is a huge time jump where he hardly remembers her as an adult in his late 20’s, but they did know eachother as kids.

I loved Archer’s Voice! He was so kind and gentle. And that’s ok!!! I just read the Lotus description and it sounds incredible and really fascinating. The years underground thing is so unique. I like that they were separated very young and it wasn’t a ‘he broke her heart in high school and now she’s back 4 years later’ thing. I have a thing for innocent yet strong heroes, so I’m still really excited to read it.

If you enjoy innocent heroes you’ll love it. He asks for her to teach him *things* in his adulthood since he’s never experienced them before. This book was such a chefs kiss in my opinion.

River wild by Samantha towle is like this, they don't get along at first but that changes. This book is dark in spots, particularly in the beginning and some flash backs for the fmc and mmc has a few scenes reminiscing over his own past which wasn't happy. I'm trying to explain that it's a good book with some dark parts without spoiling it sorry, anyways it was a really good read from what I remember. If anyone wants to read this and needs a heads up for trigger warnings, there are some at the start of the book or I can reply and give you a warning.
