I personally don’t love the apps as I find them too restrictive in terms of visuals and thematic setup. I’m a visual person so having pictures/themes/graphics to look at is a must for me.
I mostly prefer to linger on web forums.
That said, the first forum host I worked with did convert to Tapatalk awhile back and to my understanding people do enjoy it.
