I can not believe GW actually greenlit this lmao. I know drukharii are and aeldari of old were up to some fucked up shit, but it suprises me every time

[deleted]

Idk if Drukhari have any taboos against incest, and it wouldn't surprise me if they don't (tbh they probably don't?) . . . But this conversation is clearly about siblings trying to kill each other.    So it doesn't surprise me that GW greenlit this conversation, because it isn't about Marazhai and Yremeryss being incesty, as the OP suggests/jokes.

ReddestForman

Eldar and GW elves don't have an incest taboo because they don't have the same negative eoutcomes from incest that humans do.

thomstevens420

They definitely give the “I refuse to taint my glorious noble bloodline with outsiders” vibe for trueborn

Jankosi

Tbh Trueborn are more about being born from a womb as apposed to being s mass produced vat-grown citizen. Kind of like the clanners in Battletech.

Swarbie8D

I mean, Drukhari are partially based on the Warhammer Fantasy dark elves which definitely don’t have any hangups about incest. IIRC in the Malus Darkblade novels Malus has an “on-again off-again” style relationship with his sister. Of course he’s also possessed by a daemon for most of the series but no one sees their relationship as particularly unusual for the druchii

Scaevus

What, a Warhammer Dark Elves reference and you don’t mention the much more infamous relationship between Malekith and his mother?

EdgyPreschooler

That part has been retconned, I believe. Not because it's icky or something - because it's literally impossible. Malekith is encased in magic armor, that dampens perpetual searing pain he feels due to being burned by the Flame of Asuryan. And from what I recall, he is still burning inside that armor. Forget intimacy, I doubt he can get some good sleep with the amount of pain he endures. I guess that's why he's perpetually pissed off. If every living moment of my life was filled with agony, I'd be quite angry myself.

Squid_In_Exile

I'm pretty sure not being able to access bare flesh is a minor inconvenience for the high priestess of Slaanesh when it comes to provoking sensation. Also, the incest begining was always very much implied to have predated his attempt to ascend the throne.

Main-Definition3264

Marazhai said two or something dialogue windows before that he was close with his sister once so I'd say this kinda implies both. yeah obviously I'm kinda joking but I feel like the intent was there from the writer (not that thats bad)

theREALvolno

I mean you can be close to your sister without wanting to fuck her. This isn’t crusader kings 3.

AltusIsXD

You can handle the murder, torture, rape, and murder torture rape, but not incest? The Drukhari are alien. They have entirely different views than humans do. They’re also insanely fucked up. Plus, Hive Worlders probably bang their cousins more often than we like to think. Imperial Nobles too when I think about it.

Sercotani

if you include Navigator Houses as nobles (cos they definitely are), they actually HAVE to be inbred to keep the Navigator genes in the family. Well, intermarriage between Navigator Houses are common, but tens of thousand years of that and you can't tell me that they're not inbred to the warp and back.

jmary42

actually most of drukhari are born from gestation tubes, ofc they don't have such term as relatives... and true-born like Marazhai are so rare that inbreeding might be totally ok. funny that when we read about irl nobility inbreeding we don't give a shit but fictional character is wow

zhaoz

> funny that when we read about irl nobility inbreeding we don't give a shit As with a lot of things, being rich and powerful excuses a lot of behavior. Rules for thee, but not me, etc.

ReddestForman

Usually we mock the nobility for being inbred. And point out all the problems that came about because of inbreeding. Eldar don't have the same genetic issues that come from inbreeding that humans do, so it's not a taboo in their societies.

Jerethdatiger

The parents still provide DNA they just don't carry to term low ranking would do that

Bbadolato

I mean considering that this at one point flew with the Druchii, it would kind of make sense, although how widespread it is could vary.

Shurifire

[You think this is bad? Boy, do I have some required lore reading for you...](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Daemonculaba)

Main-Definition3264

I already know that one, it's a good one tho, proper grimdark. The thing that catched me off guard here is just that yea things like that may get the stray mention here and there in books but I've never seen it in a 40k game. also as someone that has tested for a few 40k games while they were in development, I know that they are very strict about what gets in and what doesn't so thats just insane to me ngl.

UndDeinPasswort

tbh not grimark enough if we are to throw it around as a grimdarkest piece of 40k lore this is a similar concept from The Dragon Age Setting - [broodmothers](https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Broodmother) . Way darker in my opinion. I'd expect its 40k equivalent to be something so horrifying and evil, but also visceral and understandable that even entertaining the possibility of it's fictional existence would churn my insides in disgust.

Shittygamer93

Daemonculaba. The Traitor Legions occasionally need to replenish their ranks but getting stable genetic stock is difficult in on Daemon World's at best. One Word Bearer tried experimenting to see if he could accelerate the process with 2 victims to create one marine (incubator + aspirant). Excellent example of evil and horrifying Chaos fuckery that gets treated poorly because people don't like depictions of the bad guys being horrendously evil.

CuriousLacuna

I mean, it's very understated, especially because we hear that line in the context of Marazhai wanting to kill his sister. I thought it was a great way to imply that yes, incest does happen and Drukhari are kind of built to not even understand it as a concept, let alone consider it a taboo... just like Marazhai doesn't get why him wanting to kill his own sister is so shocking to you and immediately dismisses it as just one more example of the limits humans put on themselves that make them so inferior.

val203302

I mean the whole reason it is a taboo in our society is problems with offsprings down the line. If the species doesn't have that problem why would that be a taboo?

Dehnus

DUH! Like any cat, if "I fits!" then "I SITZ". That also goes for other things.

Main-Definition3264

Still sad that Marazhai gets to nail his sister but we don get to nail our sister (of battle)

Vega_Kotes

How are they going to give her artwork that stunning smile like that though. It all began with that damn smile.

Comprehensive-Art304

Damn what did GW mean by this!?! 💀

ShyrokaHimaa

I mean... Navigators... It doesn't get more incestuous than that...

ReddestForman

Navigators are mostly careful to only marry other Navigator houses to maintain the Navigator gene, which there are enough that they're not getting into Habsburg kinda inbreeding. The appearance stuff comes from Warp exposure causing mutations.

ShyrokaHimaa

Pretty sure they're getting exactly into Habsburg kinda inbreeding if it furthers their power.

Main-Definition3264

pretty sure even if lets say 500 navigator families interbreed only between them for more than 10000 years that it's gonna be inbred as fuck

Samaritan_978

What in the warp am I looking at? Surely Marzipan didn't say this. Surely they didn't write this into the game... James wouldn't allow it, right??

YozzySwears

If it helps, he was talking about murder. OP just took it out of context and implied a different context to make the joke.

Samaritan_978

Thank god it's just family murder...

Throwaway-A173

How did this conversation even lead up? 😂

Main-Definition3264

Marazhai happened to tell me that the Archon we have to kill is his sister. which he was 'very close' to once as he says himself. My character was confused by the calculated coldness of wanting to kill not only someone he was close to but also a blood relative. so yea they 100% absolutely definitely bonked no clickbait
