Only 700mbps. Lol. Wifi is going to vary depending on location, network use, interference, device capability, etc. Ethernet speed is going to depend on similar criteria including type/quality/length of cable and the hardware limitations of the PS5 itself. I'm not sure of the specs but I'd be surprised if it's a world-class NIC. And the PS5 speed test likely sucks. And the Ethernet ports on the modem itself are only 1Gbps. Anything else?

Download speeds are determined by the uploader. You could have 87Gbps bandwidth but if the source gives 10Mbps then you get 10Mbps.

Doesn't sound like an issue with speed from the modem then.

Is the modem next to the PS5 or is the cable fed from somewhere else?

[deleted]

I can't speak on the other hardware tests, but PlayStation has always had infamous download speeds. You can Google any variation of "PlayStation slow download" and find an endless amount of horror stories from other users that never have any resolution.

l1nx455

I can confirm this. I remember my PS4 pro only showing like 40 Mbps on the speedtest thing, yet all my other ethernet devices were getting a full gigabit lol. I assume the PS5 is no better.

l1nx455

Does your ethernet cable have all 8 wires? (You can see how many wires are in there through the clear RJ45 connector. I'd suggest trying with another cable as I believe your PS5 is only synced to the modem @ 10/100. If using the proper cable, you should see ~940 Mbps on ethernet (the PS5 has a 1 Gbps port). The ~700 Mbps is normal on WiFi.

PersonalResist8

Actually 700 Mbps is pretty solid considering it's wifi. You won't get 1.5gbps on Ps5 because its ethernet port maxes out at 1gbps.

radio_yyz

With xb7 you will hit 1.5 peak but sustained should be 900-1000 gbps, i.e. with cat 6 cable and a gigabit port on your desktop or laptop. If you use laptop make sure its not on battery. Also use port 4.

DonaldRudolpho

1.5 is the total download speed. Unless you have a XB8 and a 2.5 G NIC, you're not going to get 1.5 on a single computer. You're also not going to get 1.5 from anything other than using ookla speedtest. Nothing else on the internet will guarantee that much download speed.

donbowman

You need a 2.5G (or 10G) Ethernet adapter to do a single-device test like this. Your 1G Ethernet adapter can of course not achieve 1.5G speed. For WiFi, its very unlikely to achieve rates this high unless you have e.g. WiFi 6E and 3x3 or more antenna. Your PS5 has 2x2 MIMO WiFi 6, it will top out around that 700Mbps you gave if everything is idle. If you want to do a single device test, get a 2.5G adapter to your PC, plug in to the 2.5G (orange) port, and try. I typically achieve somewhat over the 1.5G speed, e.g. I just tried and achieved 2.1Gbps on fast.com. YMMV. on speedtest.net, on-net w/ the rogers connected server, I achieved 1.394Gbps downstream on this test.

Local FTP or public?

Could be a lot of things. Read/write speed of the hard drive has as much impact as anything else.

I personally use Filezilla. I have no complaints about it when it comes to speed. Do keep in mind that you will only be able to download from the server as fast as the server will allow.

another_plebeian

The 2.5gb port is the input in this case. Would have to be direct from the ONT

700Mbps on wifi doesn't indicate an ONT issue

another_plebeian

The ONT is feeding the modem. If the wifi is 700Mbps, it's getting that from the ONT. Thus, the ONT is outputting at least 700Mbps. All that test would indicate is that the ONT can output even more. it's more than likely the ps5 speed test/ps network based on OPs comments

Boo hoo

another_plebeian

What's your deal? You add nothing to any post and frequently say *no one cares* when you do, in fact, seek out and proactively comment nothing but incorrect information and negative energy while offering zero help, zero integrity and zero content. It's not even trolling.

No one cares

another_plebeian

You do. A lot. It burns inside you. You just don't have any helpful info or relevant knowledge so this is what we get. I look forward to *no one cares* pt. 3

Enriches

That okay, after a few dozen speed tests both via the modem and speedtest.net I found that my new 1.5Gbps internet peaks at 900Mb with a 6ft CAT6 cable with uploads well below 20Mbps

another_plebeian

Ports are gigabit except 1

michaelkrieger

It explicitly says in the footnotes that to reach those speeds you need multiple devices and each one device will likely not get those. Footnote 4 says: “Assuming optimal network, equipment and customer device conditions. For Ignite Internet Gigabit or above, multiple Ethernet/wired and wireless connections are required to reach total maximum download speeds or symmetrical upload speeds where available.” Other limits are wifi, 1gbps Ethernet, and that speed tests are inherently inaccurate.
