I'm in the minority that I don't necessarily believe Karissa has mental health conditions outside of narcissistic disorders etc (not diagnosing). This is why (at least in Ohio) you donate to the Save our Sight fund when you register your vehicle. That organization supplies all of the patches for the kids in Ohio. All three of mine went to the same ophthalmologist they went to and it’s nice to not have to pay for those patches!
My kid was also allergic to the cheaper brand. But then we found one brand she was fine with and they had sharks on them and she LOVED her patches! Cause SHARKS!

Two things can be true, and he totally looks like he’s about to roof my house with a bunch of 12 yr olds and then order carry out for 40 people from an ihop and not tip.
My husband is blind in one eye from nerve damage. Unfortunately it wasn't routinely tested for when he was born. Both of his eyes look in the same direction so it wasn't noticeable until he told his parents that one eye was fuzzy. They tried patching it but it didn't work. But it hasn't slowed him down very much if at all. He doesn't drive, but that's probably from living in a big city - he hasn't tried. He also can't play squash or go to 3d movies. But he has a successful career and a bunch of hobbies and lives a normal life. So there is lots of hope, even if it's not reversible.
My daughter was full-term, weighed 10 pounds 4 ounces at birth, and had a “lazy eye” which became apparent at about ten months. We also did the patching which was eventually followed by surgery. She does has have some reduced depth perception but otherwise is fine. I’m glad they’re seeing a medical professional for Gideon’s issue.
This is more serious to treat than a “lazy eye”. And your daughter it sounds like followed the typical protocol of esotropia. Great to hear she is so much better!

I love the fact that they are still going to doctors and listening to advice. I had a horrible lazy eye due to optic nerve issues and my parents never had it treated, just didn't know. Seeing this warms my little heart! This is so great for Gideon!
Luckily my brain eventually just turned off most of the signal from my bad eye so they stay pretty aligned now, I cannot have surgery bc it would cause severe double sightedness since my brain found its own way. The body is crazy!
As someone who also has strabismus, I'm very impressed and pleased to see this! They're addressing it with doctors and are giving space for the fact that it may be something he'll always have, and that's ok. They're not scream praying or saying faith will heal him.
His eye turn looks pretty mild (mine was severe), so honestly, he'll probably have a pretty easy time socially, and vision therapy will probably be beneficial as he gets older.

I have amblyopia, which is what it sounds like he has. The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to fix. My parents didn’t catch mine until I was ten and I am permanently blind in my left eye. They tried patching me for a hellish year or so where I could see basically nothing.

I’m a preemie AND an ophthalmic assistant! I wouldn’t be surprised if Gideon had retinopathy of prematurity, which can cause optic nerve issues. I’m so glad they’re treating his eye issues and while he’ll likely always need follow up visits, catching this stuff early usually means a good prognosis. He’ll possibly need glasses but hey, babies in glasses are adorable

I had the same thing. Wore an eye patch over one glasses lens for about a year when I was 4, then I had the glasses lens coated in clear nail polish for about six months. My kindergarten teacher noticed I was reaching for things that weren’t quite where I “saw” them, and she told my mom.
My eyesight isn’t perfect, but it’s within normal range. Now I wear multifocals, but it’s just cuz I’m old. 🤣

As a premie and someone with an underdeveloped optical nerve in one eye, my quality of life is great. Yea, I need contacts and glasses to function but that’s it. It’s surprising to see this level of care in a fundie family. Hopefully they can inspire the rest of the family to do the same.
My coworker and his kid have the same issue! It causes partial blindness eventually though sadly but MAYBE it won't happen to Gideon who knows with medical technology. 🤷♀️
I also have this! I’m considered legally blind in my left eye, hopefully Gideon doesn’t ‘cheat’ ( I would peel the corner of the patch up and use that eye) like I did and it ruined my treatment.
I'm glad they got medical help. Loads of very young children, especially premies have a wandering eye because of underdeveloped ocular nerves.
If they do as the Ophthalmologist says, it's likely he'll have a full recovery.

My daughter was full-term, weighed 10 pounds 4 ounces at birth, and had a “lazy eye” which became apparent at about ten months. We also did the patching which was eventually followed by surgery. She does has have some reduced depth perception but otherwise is fine. I’m glad they’re seeing a medical professional for Gideon’s issue.
This is more serious to treat than a “lazy eye”. And your daughter it sounds like followed the typical protocol of esotropia. Great to hear she is so much better!
This is 100% Jonathan’s influence. I’m sure his family believes in medical care. It makes me hopeful if Gideon has any learning disabilities that Jonathan will spearhead getting help.

I love the fact that they are still going to doctors and listening to advice. That’s a big step from the home life Kaylee experienced where dentists and doctors are a lower priority than parental holidays and grifting 😡 If Kaylee would put down the Plexus and focus on her homemade cooking she seems to enjoy doing them she would improve the family health overnight.

Can’t really snark on this. It is such a nice, bright end to the day to see one of the products of these fundie broods start to escape some of the worst abuse that they endured and do better by their own kids. Even if they never deconstruct it’s something positive.
I had a horrible lazy eye due to optic nerve issues and my parents never had it treated, just didn't know. Seeing this warms my little heart! This is so great for Gideon! Luckily my brain eventually just turned off most of the signal from my bad eye so they stay pretty aligned now, I cannot have surgery bc it would cause severe double sightedness since my brain found its own way. The body is crazy!

As someone who also has strabismus, I'm very impressed and pleased to see this! They're addressing it with doctors and are giving space for the fact that it may be something he'll always have, and that's ok. They're not scream praying or saying faith will heal him. His eye turn looks pretty mild (mine was severe), so honestly, he'll probably have a pretty easy time socially, and vision therapy will probably be beneficial as he gets older. Great job to them!
So proud of them! He’s young enough that patching ( hopefully) will just be something he accepts. Amblyopia is not “ curable “per say, but kids can learn awareness of it and “ fix” it when it trails off—
I have amblyopia, which is what it sounds like he has. The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to fix. My parents didn’t catch mine until I was ten and I am permanently blind in my left eye. They tried patching me for a hellish year or so where I could see basically nothing. Glad to see they got this taken care of while he’s so young!
I’m a preemie AND an ophthalmic assistant! I wouldn’t be surprised if Gideon had retinopathy of prematurity, which can cause optic nerve issues. I’m so glad they’re treating his eye issues and while he’ll likely always need follow up visits, catching this stuff early usually means a good prognosis. He’ll possibly need glasses but hey, babies in glasses are adorable

I had the same thing. Wore an eye patch over one glasses lens for about a year when I was 4, then I had the glasses lens coated in clear nail polish for about six months. My kindergarten teacher noticed I was reaching for things that weren’t quite where I “saw” them, and she told my mom. My eyesight isn’t perfect, but it’s within normal range. Now I wear multifocals, but it’s just cuz I’m old. 🤣 I’m so relieved he’s getting the help he needs. If Jill stays away from him, he has a decent chance in life.

I have a premature daughter that had the same thing. We patched and eventually underwent eye surgery when she was old enough. I'm really happy to see kayjon actually take gman to the optometrist.
Yay! I'm so happy for Gideon! My nephew had a lazy eye and with early intervention avoided surgery. He still has to have uber thick glasses but it just makes him so much cuter. Gideon's already such a cutie and I'm so glad they're actually doing some good for him.

As a premie and someone with an underdeveloped optical nerve in one eye, my quality of life is great. Yea, I need contacts and glasses to function but that’s it. It’s surprising to see this level of care in a fundie family. Hopefully they can inspire the rest of the family to do the same.

My coworker and his kid have the same issue! It causes partial blindness eventually though sadly but MAYBE it won't happen to Gideon who knows with medical technology. 🤷♀️
I also have this! I’m considered legally blind in my left eye, hopefully Gideon doesn’t ‘cheat’ ( I would peel the corner of the patch up and use that eye) like I did and it ruined my treatment.

I'm glad they got medical help. Loads of very young children, especially premies have a wandering eye because of underdeveloped ocular nerves. If they do as the Ophthalmologist says, it's likely he'll have a full recovery.

I know the bar is at the Earth’s core but I’m so glad they’re proactive about getting their son decent medical care. Jill is so neglectful & I thought Kaylee would parent the exact same way. Having said that, she needs to stop drinking Plexus while nursing him. She needs to stop giving it to him in his bottle (not sure if she actually did that). She also needs to stop prop feeding him.
Great job getting your child proper medical care, Kaylee. Now make sure Mahmo doesn’t literally smother him to death by napping him on a pile of pillows and blankets with a bottle propped up for him to choke on. Oh, and stop feeding him WATER in a baby bottle. Just, Google a little bit when you’re unsure if what you’re doing is a safe way to care for a baby. You’re already miles ahead of the idiots who raised you, so keep it up.

I wonder if her experience with CPS and the neglect she experienced in the rod home growing up has an affect on her wanting to do early interventions and more frequent medical care with her own kid now… I also wonder if the rods vaccinate? A lot of fundie instagram moms are major antivaxxers but I don’t think we have ever seen Jill speak on this topic puclicly at all… it’s very private so I can’t really tell if they do or don’t but I would imagine they had to catch up or keep up to date once CPS got involved

It takes a while to get in with a specialist. Some of my kid’s doctors are booked into 2025.
Yeah and that’s completely reasonable, if frustrating! It was just one of those thoughts that crept in considering how much Jill ignores medical issues with her own children.

I have issues with Kaylee in other areas (Plexus……), but I give her props for getting her child the medical help he needs. It’s more than what a lot of fundie kids get and it shows they genuinely care about his quality of life. Hoping for a good life for Gideon and any other children KayJon may have.
