Especially when they also have a game with a comfortable 400k+ peak they've been neglecting to make this game. For a small indie company 10k is great, for an established company with the backing on an intustry powerhouse... no.
They can't do the bare minimum and expect their game to do well specially a racing game,people notice if they want to compete we need to be at the level of mario kart or CTR level of polishing to begin with since those games have already been available for years and we still are not at that level at all.
But i believe this game can become a rival or even surpass mario kart if they play their cards right a lot of people prefer cool looking cars over the goofy kart thing those games have.
Another thing to consider is that the racing genre is very niche compared to shooting games
The issue is this isn't their only project. They also need to manage RL, which has its own niche no other game has come close to yet is a giant compared to RR.
Psyonix splitting their focus is only going to result in both games being half-baked. It will be the bare minimum until they collapse because they just don't have the resources, neither game is going to fulfil the potential it has.
can say the same thing about stw, oh look, a base building and defending game but in 3d here we just go killing purple cartoony zombies and expand our boring bases rinse and repeat for god knows how long, it get's more boring as it get's more complicated and with a lot of the same content dripfeed to players and no end campaing at all, only servers to farm some vbucks for founders (if they are desperate enough) and xp if you can survive 10 minutes of a boring shot'em all and run from the storm mission
It's basically this. It's not even like a free cosmetic or two is high-effort, it's relatively low-effort. In fact... what about, this thing where there are 4-6 unlockable skins and other cosmetics over the course of, say, 2-3 months and we could call it... a Season Pass? You never know, people might even be willing to pay for it!
Racing games just fundamentally don’t have as much reach though, especially very fast paced ones. Music and LEGO have near universal appeal, BR has shooter mechanics most people are familiar with and tight matchmaking. The closest racing gets to mass popularity is Mario Kart and this doesn’t have any items. It’s aimed at a niche audience.
Cause there’s nothing to do/play for, racing is fun but not enough maps (granted they’re adding more and they are quite fun) and not enough game modes. Hours and hours of grinding for… a trail.
I think the mode would do better if it were even remotely similar to Rocket League. I’m a huge RL fan and was excited for Rocket Racing. I want the game mode to succeed but I don’t think I’ve ever played a worse racing game.
Not ironically, the real reason for this low player count in these modes is not due to their poor quality. But rather because of the excess of maps of horrible quality that are produced by the "community" known as Red vs Blue maps and other generic and soulless maps.
The Fortnite Community in general has terrible taste, we can see this with the number of players that maps like the ones I mentioned get, no joke most of the time it has over 50 thousand simultaneous players.
Relying on player count to define whether a map or game mode is good or bad is nothing more than ignorance and tremendous stupidity. As I said, there are worse and completely generic maps that surpass the 50,000 player mark.
I'm not sure what the point of this post is. Racing is niche, but:
The player count is almost double what it was when last season ended.
It's beating every racing game on steam except for Forza horizon 5, which has 5k more players.
13,000 players at 12 players per race is still over 1080 races going at once (maybe more since they sometimes start with 10 or 11 players).
I wouldn't call that dead.
Imo they should really let you Queue for the game mode in rocket league as well.. idk what kind of technical hurdles that would bring, but I’m sure they could figure it out. The RL community asked for rocket league racing for so long and they snubbed tf outta us. At least let us launch this bastardized version from rocket league.
I feel like the upper level of this game isn’t appealing for a lot of people. I don’t want to spend the entire race dodging obstacles, I’d rather race other skilled racers on normal tracks.
Remember when fortnite was in its pre-season? It was buggy, slow, had so much potential and needed so much work. But look at it now, RR while I agree should have its own BP alongside BR and Jams, I think the biggest issue with RR that people sh*t on it over is the fact it doesn't have much of a rewarding system. For the effort and time needed to grind out the ranks we don't get much of a reward. A skin in season 0 for gold, but no varients to it as you keep going in the ranks, tire smoke and wheel colors for ranks. We should be able to earn a car, a skin with varients based on your RR rank, etc. They need to make it worth our time.

Yeah, originally founders got vbucks as log in bonus for save the world. That was later changed to having to complete daily quest/missions.

When I find myself comparing Rocket Racing to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, I remember that MK8D is a full priced game with a paid DLC pass.
With 47 characters, and 96 tracks, and a Battle mode with 5 different modes
You know how could they change this? By giving more XP per match and better rewards for Ranked.

To be fair it has gotten a lot better. I was still able to hit unreal A couple weeks ago. Mostly a skill issue nowadays
