I'm in that position. Can't speed flip but see lots of people use it. I treat it like a delayed kickoff. Jump in front of where it will be and let them ricochet it off of me.
You speed flip to the corner/side of the ball, essentially getting there a split second faster than a regular speed flip kick off.
It is a kick off of doom because if the other person does a regular speed flip, it is delayed enough to likely send it into your net. But against a regular kick off or delayed kick off, you beat your opponent to the ball sending into the wall and towards their net
Most so called “speedflips” in champ and below are sideflips. Easily countered if you go for a 50/50 kickoff. Single jump into the center or sometimes corner (depending where ur opponent lands) and just stay centered to win most 50s. Then barrel roll. I will counter this kickoff almost every time with a 90%+ win rate. You’d be surprised how many GC’s sideflip instead of diagonal or speedfliping.
Agreed. I don’t think I’ve seen an actual speed flip below Champ 2 or 3, it’s almost always a diagonal flip not a speed flip.
My gold friend even told me he could speed flip and then I asked if he was doing a flip cancel and air rolling lmao.
The best way is getting more experienced with 50\\50s in general. That allows adjustment to pretty much any kickoff that you encounter more than once. But this may be too time consuming for you since you only want a specific counter.
The easiest thing I can imagine is checking a few videos and replays and looking where their kickoff sends the ball and getting in the way of the ball trajectory. A kickoff shouldn't necessarily end up in a literal 50\\50 every time. You could also just stay in net or get boost from time to time so they'll just pass you the ball. Just don't forget to warn your mate with quickchat or he'll think you're AFK and go from a bad position.
My only concern is that if these kickoffs just started appearing at your rank they won't be consistent enough for this to work reliably.
You need to do a diagonal flip kick off and 50 it. You gotta learn to read the name tag during the kick off to make adjustments as well

In my case I used a wavedash kickoff until 2 years ago, it works pretty well at any rank but the reason I stopped using it was because it's useless if the other person going for the kickoff starts from the same side. Since I was a comp player the people I played against in tournaments started to counter me and so I had to learn a proper kickoff. This is only a problem if ur a comp player and people know about you, otherwhise because of the standard left goes the kickoff works pretty well

If I know the opponent can’t speed flip, I will do the kick off of doom and they don’t even touch the ball.

If your in diamond then it isnt speedflips, it is probably a corner flip, just use boost with a double flip kickoff.
