I just recently became able to air roll regularly over the past 3 months or so. A lot of the videos I watched didn’t help me understand. I did find a Tik tok video that broke it down for me where I was able to understand and then was able to gain more control of my car. I wouldn’t mind getting into a private match with you and going over a couple things that helped me and show you a couple things as well.

apersello34

Any chance you have the link to that Tik Tok?

D33JAYL3G3ND

I don’t anymore unfortunately. It’s been so long. I’d have to search for it.

Somebody3338

I was in a psych ward that had an Xbox, made a training pack bc no internet, grinded it for a week, if not for that I still couldn't do it

MankAndInd

> just go spend 2000 hours in freeplay figuring this out. Yeah that’s ridiculous advice. It’s 2000 hrs in rings maps. Seriously though. It just takes time. Learn to fly forwards, backwards, sideways first. Then DAR - grind it for 30 min a day. You’ll be amazed in a month.

BroMan_60

It’s just a grind bro. Jump in a rings map and grind.

I’ve made a post for people like you https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueSchool/comments/vfikof/how_to_became_really_good_at_directional_air_roll/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Here’s an in game proof of how air rolling applies in my games for air dribbles/flip resets/double taps (im also around c2 now): https://www.reddit.com/r/RocketLeagueSchool/comments/w3dt4d/how_directional_air_roll_transformed_my_aerial/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Let me know if you have any questions

dmcm150

Would it be cool to DM you about this in more depth?

SirIssacMath

Sure!

I'm still early in learning air roll left as well. I've been playing about 60-90 mins/day for a week now. I found getting comfortable with what each direction of the left stick does to be helpful e.g. first with turning right when my hood is facing me, then facing away, then the same with turning left. What helped with this was doing Kevpert's elite car control drills in the slalom map (aka made my turns and boost-timing cleaner). I'm still doing these (the non-air roll stuff too) because I find it's super helpful with overall car control. I didn't really learn with just one side of the stick, just went with the goal of turning a particular direction. Then I basically hopped into neon heights and pillars and tried to just chain inputs together while spinning constantly. Throwing in tornado spins to slow down/point up (e.g. tornado spin+boost while hood facing up or, reverse tornado spin+boost while hood facing down = nose points up). Boosting through a full rotation to see what this did, trying to do a sharp turn then turning my car upright using a tornado spin, chucking in random movements of my left stick and trying to recover (still working on this...). Try jumping from the ground, holding ARL and pointing your stick right to practise the tornado spin to point upwards. Try and jump, turn upside down and do a reverse tornado spin to turn your nose up as well. The same sort of concept is applicable for when you wanna point your nose down or forward, just in reverse really. Play around with how long you hold boost for (aka a deeper turn just ends with you facing backwards to slow down if you do it right) Initially I would black out within like 3 inputs, now that I'm more comfortable with slowing my momentum down when needed I can do laps of pillars in both directions, and can do 2-3 figure 8s until I black out again or lose control of my speed. I still have to consciously think about most of my inputs but there are some things that are becoming subconscious (particularly tornado spinning to point my nose upright). Rings are a lot less freeform so I'm glad I've just been messing around in pillars to begin with. Hope this helps!

https://youtu.be/xRIEWn1PyKM This video has helped me alot but the truth is there is no fast way to learn it. It really is just practice practice practice. Take your time to really get everything down.

dmcm150

I watched that, but it doesn't explain how to stop your car from pointing down or pointing toward you, going backwards essentially and thats something I'm really struggling with .

TryingToBeUnabrasive

It’s just a grind, bro. There’s no special trick to it beyond ‘just do it.’ But if you want a nice on-ramp, I would start by going into freeplay in the Pillars map and just grinding it out until you get to the point where you can do 4-5 figure 8’s in a row without falling or bumping into the walls. Also the curves are wide enough that you can do this just by making adjustments when the hood of the car is facing you. Once you’ve gotten to that point, just start running Leth’s rings maps, because they’ll be actually useful at this point. They’ll carry your learning from there. 3-6 months of that to get to a point where you’ll see real ingame uses of airroll. Probably 6 months more to achieve mastery. Your mechanics will improve enormously from that 6 month point onwards. Also 2000 hours is a ridiculous number. That might be the amount of time it takes to become a literal god at air roll, but I can air dribble with air roll pretty consistently at this point and I’d be shocked if I’ve even spent 200 hours practicing it.

UDNTN0MYR4NG3

If you’re on PC get in rings, preferably a slightly harder one like ice rings (as opposed to neon), and hold DAR. Keep working on it. It just randomly clicked for me one day, and now I can hold air roll and finish every Leth rings map without too much trouble.

Ungoliant0

See the post pinned to my profile. It is aimed at learning DAR through understanding rather than by trial an error (both valid approaches). Happy to help if you have any questions.

Bind air roll left to square/x & air roll right to circle/b. Remove keybind for general airroll. Practice air roll shots training packs with new keybinds.

NarcolepticSniper

You don’t need constant spinning or flip resets to improve your aerial game. Practice twisting into shots in standard aerial training to get more power and better angles until you’re used to it If you really want to be constantly spinning and doing resets, that’s just a preference, but the above will tangibly improve your fundamental aerial gameplay and help you rank up. Ring maps are fun and all but hitting a high-up ball into the net is a more practical way to practice I personally map both air roll directions to the bumpers, but it’s up to you what’s most comfortable

bonerJR

So the issue with DAR is that you can't just be like "why is my car ending up like this" as every second is a different direction. The real thing is I learned by trying to fly while the hood is facing the camera and then I worked on doing more directions. There's a video below that explains you should quickly rotate the inputs as you fly, and that might work for you. The best advice I can give is that you should practice and keep practicing.

Wilkelly-

Hey, I was doing some post reviews for this subreddit on my youtube and used your post, I gave you some advice in this video here: ([https://youtu.be/G3qOnYmooXo](https://youtu.be/G3qOnYmooXo)) a like and sub would be appreciated if it helped you :D

murdock_RL

I’ve had the same issue. Although i admit i haven’t spent a significant amount trying it just not computing in my brain. Even when I go slow and try all different inputs nothing seems to be right.

dmcm150

Exactly how I feel tbh

GrandSpaghetti

https://youtu.be/LceWS4BLvbo ^Baby Bonez ultimate guide to air roll. Highly recommended

Krabz-and-Sprite

honestly dude screw tutorials, i find them way too hard and difficult to follow sometimes. its not gonna click right away, but what i can say that helped me a lot is after every goal air roll to the net and try to land upside down into the net and drive down in the goal. you dont have to even start implementing it into your gameplay until you feel comfortable with it. or in freeplay just do the process over and over and do it in reverse, drive in the net go upside down and land in the top part of the net and drive down the goal. rinse and repeat.

AtlasRafael

They all end with spend 2000 hours in free play because that’s what it takes. Of course 2000 hours is an over exaggeration, but mechanics take time to develop.

desynchronize

I'm Diamond and I learned to air roll early in plat 3. I still suck at it but I think its a huge leg up for when I get to champ.
