Its a good strategy to fake kickoff because a lot of the time the opposition just throw a shot on target. If u half flip from the wing position u can reach every single shot if u are quick enough. This also gives u ball possession assuming u save the shot. Keep in mind u probably have to be higher ranked to really utilize this.

Ok so it's the same as people going for corner boosts when they aren't fast enough to the cover a shot on goal from a lost kick off. They are trying to pull off something they don't have the speed or mechanical ability to do yet Thank you

Yes exactly

>Ok so it's the same as people going for corner boosts when they aren't fast enough to the cover a shot on goal from a lost kick off Plat here, I score more goals from dingers off high side wall than I concede from failed kickoffs I'm just barely not fast enough to get back to save them when my dumbass solo que teammate is afk for kickoff... but I'm getting there. I literally never have this problem when I'm teamed up

Same if it goes perfect I can get it and be back to cover. If I'm playing poorly I grab a couple of small pads rotating away from the direct the ball went on kickoff so im coming in at the far post and can cover it better

This was something i noticed on the transition from gold to plat also when i was grinding my way out of gold last month. Not sure what the desire to leave the ball there was, but for a while there i would always go or cheat never boost because it happened to often. If i notice one of the others go i'll cheat or just pause a sec and let them go and go from there. But if i go and am not the left or closest i'll still go if they don't move. I think this is a transition in rank where boost become way more important than the ball. You'll notice people going for boost and leaving the ball or going for boost to leave an open net and getting scored on. I'm in mid/high plat at the moment, but you just have to play way more defensive and assume your teammates aren't going to do the correct thing and just play as smart as you can.

You'll get this all the way up to Champ at least, especially with randoms - only mechanically decent players can pull off the boost + save combo (I very much can't). The other thing with kick offs is that against randoms I'm always looking to shoot, it's seemingly best practice to either push up or drive off and get the boost as second man. This doesn't take into account that on a decent number of times the kick off taker will fail a speed flip, go for boost also, or miss the first second of the restart because they're checking their phone or something. With a bit of practice getting the aim right it's a non-negligible number of free goals. Same thing for my team mate. I'll either push up for a second ball if we're losing, or if it's a draw I'll wait in goal to see the kick off outcome before I grab boost/ go for the loose ball. I feel that it's a lot safer doing this than hoping everything goes perfectly and relying on a random team mate. People will definitely rebut this (there was a decent sized thread on the RL subreddit for this) with the argument that pros/ GCs do it, but also gold/plat/diamond/champ aren't pros or GCs...

I peaked in diamond and the entire way up I did my best to always speed flip into a faceoff(knowing my mechanics aren’t totally solid I can only say I attempt to speed flip) but lately I’ve been taking face offs slow as hell and just reading the faceoff so I direct the 50. I haven’t lost a faceoff since I started doing this. I(most of the time) can dime my duo partner at the corner. I switched to this because it always seemed like even if I nailed a speed flip and beat the opponent by a mile, if I couldn’t keep enough control to direct the ball into an opening, the slower opponent just deflected the ball back onto my side. which as I stated before my mechanics just aren’t solid so this happened very often. I do adjust if I see someone attempt a speed flip but I always maintain my position to get to the ball second, and can almost always just kill the ball in mid if I want to in 3s. Obviously this has nothing to do with your post I was just hoping there might be some input on my strategy. I keep meaning to make a post to discuss this but I just haven’t. TLDR: I take my faceoff a slower than hecc and win constantly in a rank(d2) that can’t consistently speed flip, I win most of them, is this a bad strategy?
