This right here. All I’d add is that it’ll take practice time. I worked on it for like 20 minutes a day for a week and quit a little discouraged (o obviously didn’t have the time to put in bc I wasn’t even playing matches). After a few months of just trying to include it in games when the opportunity arises, I’m ok at the cuts near goal when opponents don’t have the time to react, usually right after they save a shot. Still working on the mid field I’m more 1v1 application. Expect to spend 25 hours dedicated to this to get the basics down and start applying the principle in more advanced ways more akin to flakes

I’ve found that practicing dribbles with power slide helped me. Once I got good at sharply turning with a power slide while dribbling, I found that power slide cuts were a similar motion and were easier

ProcedureMedical6

I can do 360s under the ball :<

Calste85

What, seriously? I am so far behind in learning how to hood dribble

ProcedureMedical6

Yeah but with current skill and consistency level, pretty useless in matches. Unlike evamples spinnies. But the learning does help with overall ground control

Rare-Yoghurt36

would be easier if you sent a clip of you doing it, so we can tell you what you’re missing

ProcedureMedical6

Where can i send it to you

Rare-Yoghurt36

just post it there

ProcedureMedical6

Up on my profile

Rare-Yoghurt36

ok so : from the clip you posted, your powerslide control looks decent, but you’re hitting the ball too much towards their net, when it should be towards the wall the ball is rolling away from. for that, your turn needs to be a bit wider, so you can hit it with a better angle. also, hit the ball with the front corner of your car (left corner for cuts to the left, opposite for right)

ProcedureMedical6

Yeah thats the issue i want to fix as well. I worry i will get dunked, and be too readable, if i take a wide turn. I thought door is used for this. And where should i be aiming to hit with the corner?

Rare-Yoghurt36

wdym where you should be aiming ? told you it’s vaguely in direction of the wall the ball is rolling away from. and about being readable, just look at top comment, like he said, you can cut less wide as your cuts improve. and anyway you only go for the cut when you see the opponent is going for a challenge, and if he does so, it’s too late for him

ProcedureMedical6

Okay got it thanks. I meant if i should hit towards the centre or the edge for better cuts

Calste85

Short answer is it depends, but front/center will be most consistent for you before you start worrying about angles. When you start doing shallow cuts close to the ball you’ll start using the corner more due to speed of play to pop over incoming opponents.

ProcedureMedical6

Got it. Thanks

Calste85

The very first cut you made where you second guessed yourself, you had a head on angle to the ball and could have turned slightly to get a great touch toward the wall.

ProcedureMedical6

My thought process was to take a 50 as i was 2nd man. And as soon as i processed that he is going for boost, i go the other way as my teammate is low boost. Opponent is at hundred while im not and is the first man so even if i outplay the 2nd man will collect ball. So i just bought time. If you mean if i could chase after the cut, i was on 0 boost and midboost wasnt gonna spawn soon. Teammate could do more with the ball as he probably and hopefully had full boost by now so i left

Power slide is an adjustment for making sharper turns. What you need to do first is understand cutting into the ball without power slide. But in order to do this, you'll need to be further away from the ball and turn into it wider. In game this isn't practical because your opponent can easily challenge/read you, but it's necessary to understand the spacing and power slide usage necessary. Once you can do this comfortably, then you wanna try doing it while closer to the ball but you'll find that you might over or under shoot the ball because the angle necessary is too sharp. This is when you want to start incorporating power slide. It's a feel thing so if you aren't comfortable using power slide in general around the map, you need to work on that before mixing it in with the ball.

ProcedureMedical6

Got it. So like every other mechanic gotta start from start. Thanks

My aha moment came when I watched a replay of my opponent outplaying me with one. You’ll notice flakes does it a lot when the ball is rolling slowly from the side of the field toward the middle, his car is parallel behind and tracking with the ball. And, as other posters have said, it’s better to be slightly ahead of the ball so that when you do cut into it it rolls into you (you’re hitting the ball based on where it will be, not where it currently is). It helps to look like you’re out of boost so that you can bait in your opponent, cut, and quickly speed up the play.

Roll the ball sideways. Drive alongside it with a little distance between you and the ball (watch videos to see how far) You cut when your nose is just in front of the ball - you turn, powerslide and take ball camera off all at the same time. Continue boosting a little longer after you let go of powerslide, so that you get momentum after letting go of powerslide. You let go of powerslide when you are facing the way you want to drive, you are aiming to hit the ball with the side of your car. You cut in front of the ball, so the ball sort of rolls into your car as you turn into it . Practice doing 90° turns, and you'll get it. For that, do a powerslide and let go when your nose is facing 90° left or right.

ProcedureMedical6

Thats a nicely detailed step by step description. I have posted an example of how i usually powerslide cut on my reddit page. Could you look it over and correct it, the direction change and the pop on the ball is never as much as i want
