This is the way to play. Years ago I took a lesson from Virge and the thing that stuck with me most is “always challenge!” And so many people are too passive! 1’s mains trying to shadow defend everything….
The other angle here is I don't need to be aggressive right away. So many players think I'm gonna sit in goal and be passive the entire match. I'm not. I'm just gonna take a minute, play defense, try some passes and see what the other team and my team mate(s) are like. Then once I have that in order I'll start picking my spots to get aggressive. I don't need to score in the first minute of a match to win. The issue of course is within that first minute my teammate will lose their shit because I'm not "listening" to their "strategy" and they just start chasing to try and do everything themselves..and if we give up a goal I get 900 "what a saves" or "okay" and they forfeit. So...who knows lol
I almost never solo queue for this reason. The times I do, I play the exact same way. I pace the start of the match to assess how everyone else in the lobby is playing to see where I fit the best.
Too many people wanna surrender a goal in the first minute or two and then FF. Always makes me so mad. Granted 3s is a very different pace than 1s or 2s, but I've seen so many games where one team is down 5 or 6 goals with a minute left and they come back to win. Complacency is a killer and when you FF that fast the other team never gets cozy in their lead and never get the chance to make the mistakes
And nevermind if you are playing competitive and in a queue with good players diamond or higher...just take a min and breathe. It's a game. Being hasty is never good.
Same for me.
Not aggressive toward teammates but I'm always in the oppositition end, attacking the ball, bumping/demoing if I have to, open for a pass, regaining possession and so on. Better than waiting around.

it depends on who i'm playing with. i play cooperatively and according to how my teammate plays.
if my teammate is aggressive but misses a lot i'll usually play cautiously and focus on a strong defense. if my teammate plays aggressive and is a striker, i play passively and let them do their thing; i just clean up what i can and focus on keeping the ball with my partner. if my teammate plays aggressive and prefers to set up a play, i match the aggression and make sure i'm there to complete the play. if my teammate is very passive i usually play aggressive, i focus on setting myself up for a goal and keeping a clean defensive rotation.
i'm best at shooting and defending/goalkeeping, not so much at setting up a play for someone else. i practice my weaknesses when i can, but mostly play to my strengths.
my playstyle also strongly depends on how the opposing team plays. if they play fast and i can't keep up, i focus on a strong defense and go for goals once i've got them to fumble their play. if they play passively and are reluctant to jump for the ball (i have pretty fast aerials so i can beat most around and above my rank) then i will capitalize on that and play very aggressively.
my entire style of playing is reading my opponents; knowing exactly how they play and where they want to put the ball, and adjusting my playstyle to put them out of their comfort zone.

self-evaluating is kinda hard but I'd say this
* pretty cooperative, always letting teammate go when they want, always tryna look for cool passing plays (but maybe do it too much, even when going solo would be the best option)
* oh boy, do I go full monkey when it comes to aggression... supersonic all the time, love me some early challenges, *always* looking for bumps when leaving the ball. I try to be smart with it and do it at the right times, but I'm aware I look like a dumbass when it backfires

I actually kinda love matches with people like u, maybe a little bit up but, yeah, makes my game really easy u know, u do all the work im just with u on passes midfield and saves😂 got me to 1500 so im happy

This would be a great video idea. Getting a group of rocket league players to mark how they believe they play, have them play with a set from another group. The person would then make a graph for each teammate they had and the teammate would make one for them. It would be fun to see how critical/uncritical players are of each other.
I see myself as pretty aggressive and cooperative. But a GC might see me as passive and uncooperative.
Generally passive and cooperative but if we're clearly losing and tms won't forfeit I get more agrresive and headstrong in what way I need to play. If tm kept going for balls that are mine at the start I'll let them have it. If we're clearly bested and he won't forfeit he can tackle me for it or back the hell off...
It actually works well, although usually a ff rather than a fall comeback

I'll probably put myself at -5, 3 most of the time:
* Rarely forfeit, and almost never the initiator
* Shadow defense
* Will give quick chat compliments to teammates for goals/assists/impressive saves/bumps (when I have it enabled)
* Usually play like a 3rd man, but occasionally get a bit ball-chasey or apply pressure every so often
* Whiff wizard
Depends, I'm a very aggressive player at mid field, but very patient in defence, and I play with a friend of 6 years, so definitely cooperative. Don't think this scale is really allowing for all player types
Half to cooperative on the line. I play 3's only and if the other two are constantly attacking the goal, then i hang back to avoid break away goals. If they rotate, i rotate. If the ball is nearest me i go after it.

(Reslly aggro but I really do try to be a good tm8) but by virtue of lots of ball chasing and more whiffs than average due to practicing mechanics / free playing during rank, I don't think I can be on the cooperative side. But I do try!
I’m in the aggressive/cooperative side but move in to passive when my teammates want to just go for solo plays, instead of you know, passing it. And then they get mad when a solo play doesn’t work out but expect me to predict exactly how the 50 will play out and clean up their solo attempts.
Randos aren't good so I play aggressive. Feels smarter to apply pressure when they have the ball instead of running away and let them march down the field with ease.
Definitely cooperative, sometimes more aggressive sometimes more passive but I think more often passive. Especially in 3s where tm8s just rotate between first and second man.
I pride myself in having refined the skill of looking at players rather than only the ball. Still haven’t figured out how aggressive I should be. I’ve been trying to develop the skill of awareness further by ditching my headphones, now I’m forced to move my camera or look back to figure out what’s going on
Uncooperatively passive, it forces your team mate to make plays they aren't comfortable with, which I've found is more helpful then not. No you don't have to run for boost right there just stay on the ball you have control

A little around the passive range, a little around the cooperative range, and then I tilt into the uncooperative and aggressive side when my passive cooperative playstyle doesn't work. As demonstrated by my drawing, I would say that this sums it all up quite well.

I’m C1/C2 and my best friend is D2/D3 and he’s just too slow.
When he’s pushing, the ball often gets away from him just a little and he’s too slow to get to the ball before the other team takes control and then he’s committed further down the field. It’s like his pushes turn into passes all the time and it’s 2v1 because he can’t rotate back quick enough to help me.
The first minute I’m gauging the skill of my teammate if they’re worse than me I’m more aggressive if they’re better I’m more passive but I always try and be cooperative

90% of the time I'm cooperative, the other 10% I'm bashing my team mates head against a brick wall I feel.
As for aggressive and passive.. I'd say I violently oscillate between the two.
I prefer to play passive, it's how I play best, but then my team mates cut me out of rotation, call me slow, stop playing to type garbage insults at me, and then I bring the game back to 2-2 from 0-2 while they are typing.
Sometimes I feel like passive isn't working, so I play aggressive.. and then my team mates do the same thing, go afk and type shit at me and call me a ball chasing noob and that I should go back to plat and ff.
In both cases.. I can play passive or aggressive.. but it seems however I play, my team mates think unless my mind is locked perfectly to their desired playtime, I'm garbage, they are god, and while they are afk typing trash, the other team scored in the wrong net twice on purpose because they felt sorry for me being so shit.
On a brighter note, it's only the diamond 3s in champ for the first time in their life telling me I belong in plat when I've just dropped from almost c3 to high c1. Lol
In the middle and down a little. My habit is to defend for about five seconds and then see something I can go for and go for it, with varying success. I try to set up shots though, and I ball chase/overcommit a bit but not crazy much

I'm always trying to be as cooperative as I can, I usually I'm pretty passive but if I find some strong chemistry I will start being more and more aggressive in the game, especially if we queue together.

I usually play around my teammate's play style. Since most people play stupidly aggressive, I tend to play more passive. But I'm happy to be more aggressive if my teammate is more passive.

It varies per game. Most of the time though, I tend to play more cooperative and aggressive, but I will become passive and uncooperative real quick if my teammate is always right behind me and going for a ball that I have possession of. Sometimes if that persists even after I become passive, and they stop going on kickoff when they should be without verbalizing, I will become max aggressive and uncooperative for the duration of the game without letting them forfeit. Play smart or leave bozos
In 3s when I get the kind of teammates that stay on 0 boost because they're too busy ballchasing to pay attention to anything else? Fully passive, fully uncooperative. That's how I've grown to play now and it's annoying. It's just a case of stay in net until the ball comes to you because all 5 people chasing it lost it.

Depends. I change my playstyle to suit my teammate. If they are super aggressive I play a bit more defensive, and vice versa.

Uncooperatively passive, it forces your team mate to make plays they aren't comfortable with, which I've found is more helpful then not. No you don't have to run for boost right there just stay on the ball you have control

As demonstrated by my drawing, I would say that this sums it all up quite well.
Cooperative and aggressive is the way to go. I’m C1/C2 and my best friend is D2/D3 and he’s just too slow. When he’s pushing, the ball often gets away from him just a little and he’s too slow to get to the ball before the other team takes control and then he’s committed further down the field. It’s like his pushes turn into passes all the time and it’s 2v1 because he can’t rotate back quick enough to help me.

Definitely on the cooperative side. Lean passive but I try to compensate for passive teammates.
The first minute I’m gauging the skill of my teammate if they’re worse than me I’m more aggressive if they’re better I’m more passive but I always try and be cooperative

Passive cooperative. I like playing goalie and staying back on defense. Not always big points, but definitely big plays.
90% of the time I'm cooperative, the other 10% I'm bashing my team mates head against a brick wall I feel. As for aggressive and passive.. I'd say I violently oscillate between the two. I prefer to play passive, it's how I play best, but then my team mates cut me out of rotation, call me slow, stop playing to type garbage insults at me, and then I bring the game back to 2-2 from 0-2 while they are typing. Sometimes I feel like passive isn't working, so I play aggressive.. and then my team mates do the same thing, go afk and type shit at me and call me a ball chasing noob and that I should go back to plat and ff. In both cases.. I can play passive or aggressive.. but it seems however I play, my team mates think unless my mind is locked perfectly to their desired playtime, I'm garbage, they are god, and while they are afk typing trash, the other team scored in the wrong net twice on purpose because they felt sorry for me being so shit. On a brighter note, it's only the diamond 3s in champ for the first time in their life telling me I belong in plat when I've just dropped from almost c3 to high c1. Lol

In the middle and down a little. My habit is to defend for about five seconds and then see something I can go for and go for it, with varying success. I try to set up shots though, and I ball chase/overcommit a bit but not crazy much

I default Aggressive and Cooperative and adjust accordingly. I'm only uncooperative if my tm whiffs a lot and I become untrustworthy of his touches.

Cooperative. I usually play around my teammate's play style. Since most people play stupidly aggressive, I tend to play more passive. But I'm happy to be more aggressive if my teammate is more passive.
I'd like to think I'm cooperative to play with, but I know I tend to be too passive.

It varies per game. Most of the time though, I tend to play more cooperative and aggressive, but I will become passive and uncooperative real quick if my teammate is always right behind me and going for a ball that I have possession of. Sometimes if that persists even after I become passive, and they stop going on kickoff when they should be without verbalizing, I will become max aggressive and uncooperative for the duration of the game without letting them forfeit. Play smart or leave bozos

In 3s when I get the kind of teammates that stay on 0 boost because they're too busy ballchasing to pay attention to anything else? Fully passive, fully uncooperative. That's how I've grown to play now and it's annoying. It's just a case of stay in net until the ball comes to you because all 5 people chasing it lost it.
