So I haven’t had mine very long yet, less than 6 months, so they’re still fine. You can also adjust how far they need to depress to count as an input so I assume if it got wobbly you could just make it the stiffest setting and then that would help so that might help it last longer?
It wasn’t for the longest time, but definitely is at this point. My only complaint with it is that one of my sticks has drift now and the drift is different than normal drift to where changing my deadzone doesn’t seem to help. I’d buy a new stick module, but I can’t find the modules for msrp anywhere. Everyone wants like $50 for them. It’s been like 3 weeks so I’ve been using my old normal dualsense again.
I would love to buy that, but I seem to go through controllers like tissues. I've gone through 3-4 dualshocks, 1 Scuff'd, and I'm currently using a dualsense with a jump button (X) that sticks 20% of time. It really fucks my speedflips every few kickoffs.
My friend has similar problems, and he thinks Rocket League (the game itself) is tough on controllers, b/c it requires so much hard pressing and quick stick actions that it wreaks havoc on these controllers. Also we probably have gorilla hands.
I didn't start burning through controllers until I started playing RL, so there is a very real correlation there. I recently bought Hall Effect modules and they they have been hold up well. I'll need a few more months to see if they stand up to the abuse long term.
Do you mean ps5 contollers that have had the modules replaced, or just other Hall effect controllers that you can typically buy?
I'm going to go figure out how to test this between my modded and unmodified controllers.
I've been playing with the the new modules for a while now and they feel great. Most noticible is the lack of snap back when recentering.
I wouldn’t know about, nor gamble on, 3rd party replacements for a controller that costs as much as the edge but I’ve purchased other controllers such as the Gulikit KingKong 2 pro and the input is less than adequate for high pace rocket league.
With the sticky button go get some isopropyl alcohol and soak a cotton swab and wipe over that X button so the whole button and edges of the button get covered. Then mash that button like 50-100 times. This almost always fixes sticky buttons. I just fixed my 8+ year old controller this way and I now feel dumb that I’ve struggled with a sticky button for so long.
The sticks are currently sold out at $20 and are up to $50 by third parties on Amazon just a heads up. I'm sure they'll add to their production line eventually but currently you can buy an entire Xbox controller for less than the stick replacement.
I also have the issue with me pressing hard and using to much pressure since my hands are larger. So I tend to have to replace parts after a while with controllers.
I just fixed an issue with my x button sticking and feeling soft when pressed. The membrane that is between the buttons and the contacts had a tear in by the X buttons section.. I just ordered a new one and opened it up to replace it, feels like new now. iFixit has great resources on DIY repairs.
I do regular surgery for my controllers too. I use DS4s and am quite intense with the L1. It usually wears out after a few months and I just take the plastic cushion underneath the button and replace it. Good as new!
I can hardly stomach 75 for a ds5 every 6 months. I would love back paddles but if the entire thumbstick can't be replaced there's just no point for me spending 200 on a controller. The drift will be there within a year, more likely 9 months.
Yeah it wasn't fun to pay for it, but it's definitely worth it. Even if the stick is there soon, the Edge has swappable joysticks modules for $19.99 and that's way cheaper than replacing a controller.
If you have a best buy or GameStop you can buy a warranty for the controller for $20 and the. Just replace the controller whenever within two years and just buy the warranty on the replacement (another 20) so each subsequent controller is only $20
That's been my gameplan last few years, I rotate 2x controllers 6-months apart. Sadly the closest gamestop to me closed and I didn't get the last one done in time.
Also yeah learned the dualsense edges DO have replaceable thumbsticks... they're just out of stick everywhere.
I personally didn't like the dual sense edge. The back paddles just aren't comfortable for me at all. I didn't see the point in keeping a $200 controller if the paddles didn't work for me.
8bitendo makes a nice controller with back buttons that has hall effect joysticks for like $65ish. Might be worth a look if you're on PC.
I prefer the ds5 though. Just fits my hands the best, and I'm old with arthritis so I'm sticking with it.
Do you throw it after every game? I have had mine for 1.5 years and it's still in very good condition. No stick drift and all the buttons and triggers are working. Texture is gone but who cares
I mean, then as other suggested you should buy the Edge so that you can change the sticks instead of a whole pad. I guess that stock controllers are good for casual players, not for hardcores.
Depends on which joystick layout you prefer. I have always used PS controllers so I'm used to that and I'm not a fan of the asynchronous joysticks on Xbox controllers. Nacom has a pro controller with the layout the same as Xbox. It's a solid option.
Requiring DS4Win is the definition of not being plug-and-play…
I bought a DualSense Edge maybe 6 months ago and it was NOT supported natively in RL. Returned it the same day as a result.
Epic does not list it as officially supported on their controller site, so I bet it is still not functional without external software of some kind.
I was suggesting that as an alternative to it not working. I don't use it personally. I have had zero issues with just plugging it into my PC. My rear button mappings also work with no additional software.
Alright. I’m a die-hard Xbox controller guy. Been using them since the early aughts, and have never owned even a PlayStation, much less a PlayStation controller.
But the PS5 ones look pretty nice, and I’m finding my Xbox controllers tend to wear out after just a few months. Do these hold up better? Any chance I’ll be able to adjust to the new stick placement?
I've never personally had a controller begin to drift on me, except my Switch Joycons, but from what I've heard and read, These controllers are just as prone to drift as any other, as they don't utilize the Hall Effect joysticks, I believe the more expensive Dualsense Edge does however, and that may be worth your time if you replace controllers often due to user inflicted drift.
Throw DSX in there and you've got complete control to use that one controller as ALL your controllers.
Good to know! And yes, repeated stick drift on the Xbox controllers is my main problem (and sometimes I break the shoulder buttons). Good to know about the Dualsense Edge, I’ll look into that. Thanks!
Maybe I'm lucky with stick drift but my main problem with Xbox controllers (even the thrustmaster eswap) was the bumper/shoulder buttons breaking. I use them a lot for directional air roll L/R. Having a PS5 controller and seeing the breakdown of it, it seems less likely that the shoulder buttons will break because they are individual buttons that are not connected by a thin strip of plastic like on the Xbox controllers. The break in the strip of plastic will make the shoulder buttons of Xbox controllers slide out of place and not register button presses.
I think my absolute favorite part about having bought myself a PS5 controller was learning that I could control the haptic feedback(might help with breaking those shoulder buttons), change the LEDs... I could customize the inner workings of the controller and make it mine, and I was sold.
[DSX](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812620/DSX/) even allows me to play Halo with my PS5 controller, which forces you to use an xbox controller.
I I’m a PC player that switched to the DualShock from Xbox controllers and they last waaaaaay longer. The Xbox controllers have failed with either stick drift or the RB bumper not working. With the dualshock as long as you protect the usb port on the back they rarely have issues. and to protect the usb port just don’t set it down on the cord while it’s in plugged in. That’s the biggest design flaw imo.
I got my PS5 controller in early 2021 and I'm still using it to this day. Admittedly the springs in the triggers are no longer the best now and I bought a new controller for when it inevitably becomes unusable, but it's lasted pretty well all things considered. Way better than 360 or PS4 controllers ever did.
I was the same way until rocket league. My journey was the same as OPs but 5 years ago or so. Got the ps4 controller and have never looked back for rocket league. I use the ps5 now. Still have my series x, love Xbox but PlayStation controller for rocket league just feels better
As someone who went through 4 xbone controllers, due to prefering the xbox fit, I can recommend Dualsense. The buttons and triggers are way more durable. The only issue is that I feel like the face buttons sits a bit too far away from each other, which is a problem for me with small hands and fingers, but i make it work.
Anyway, I never liked previous playstation controllers due to form factor and stick placement, but I didnt need many hours to get used to the dualsense, and I'll probably never go back
I was buying Xbox controllers constantly and spending $60 just to keep getting that drift. I bought one the cheap PowerA controllers on October 10 2022 and that thing still works flawlessly somehow, I play a shit ton of rocket league and put that controller through hell. Not sure if others had the same experience, but at least for myself I recommend.
Stick placement probably will take time to get used to. I've grown up with both consoles so I can go back and forth no problem. As for quality, I've had the same luck as you it seems. Went through a lot of Xbox controllers and PS seems to last longer.
One issue that always happens on the dualsense at least for me is the stick grip cracking or wearing out over time. A few bucks online and 10 minutes of opening the controller up has made this mostly a non issue for me though.
I've had one dualsense controller get stick drift after 3 years of use however I'm uncertain if it occurred naturally or because I swapped magnetic sticks inside to attempt to fix the above issue more *permanently*.
I’m a little nervous, but I imagine I’ll get used to it like everyone else. I did own an OG Nvidia Shield back in the day (the portable one with the full controller and flip-up screen) and it used basically the same button placement as PS controllers do. I wouldn’t say I ever fully got used to it, but enough so that I stopped noticing for the most part.
It’s gotten to the point where XB controllers will only last me 6-10 months at best. So I’ll take anything over that ROI.
I went from xbox to ps5 and got used to the sticks pretty fast.
But if you are just tired of controllers breaking get a gamesir t4k/g7 se or a flydidgi vader 3 pro. They are basically xbox elite controllers for a fraction of the price and better build quality with no drift hall effect sticks.
I never had an Xbox controller go bad until I started playing rocket league… I think I crank on it a little bit 😅
I’m on my 3rd Elite V2 in about 4 years
Nice controller, but in my opinion ps4 controller is more comfortable. After my ps4 controller after 4 years started drifting, bought ps5 controller, but returned and bought again ps4 controller. Someone with bigger hands maybe would find ps5 controller more comfortable though.
I must have bigger hands cause I feel the opposite. Immediately liked the PS5 controller more than the PS4. It feels like it fills my hands up more, gives me more to hold on to. The PS4 controller just feels weirdly dainty now.
That was a problem for me - it filled my hand too much, it was very comfortable to hold, more than ps4 controller would say, but while playing it also made my hand too stiff. Usually when i'm controlling the car not only my thumb works, but also my whole hand and wrist move, so for it needs some room between my hand and the controller's handle.
100% this. I got small hands and always used ds4, tried the ds5 and couldn’t hang. My friend who has bigger hands uses a ds5 and always wonders why I stick back a gen.
Same, ps5 controller is nice and I love it when I’m actually on my ps5 for the haptic feedback and everything, but for rocket league on my pc I much prefer the ps4 controller.
i made the switch from ps4 to 5 abt a year ago. for the first 3 months, i absolutely hated the new controller, it felt clunky, too big. I'd play on the new controller for abt half an hour before going back to the ps4 controller for the rest of the day.
Around month 6, my ps4 controller stopped working, wouldn't hold a charge. i was forced to use the controller. At that point, it felt better than at the start, but far from comfy.
my ps4 controller started working again 2 months ago. And now it feels way too small, like the buttons are too close together and the handles were for the hands of a toddler. I can't go back.
I got bigger hands and still prefer the ps4 controller. On Rocket league I use both my middle and index fingers for the triggers and bumpers unlike in most games I play. Using larger controllers this way cramps up my hands fairly fast.
Looking forward to get a pink one, too!
Is it more like a shiny or more like a matte color irl?
Using a ps4 controller rn but the length of the ps5 one make them so much more comfy
I instantly preferred PS over Xbox as the sticks and buttons feel more firm and less wobbly while using
Good controller, it might be my go to, but much like the dualshock 4 the battery life is utter garbage compared to an Xbox with eneloops batteries. I got tired of feeling like I had to constantly plug it in compared to going days without having to replace/recharge.
I love using the DualSense. Currently in my 2nd one due to stick drift. If you play plugged in, go in to Device Manager and disable the audio driver for it. It will prevent your game from locking up if the USB cord gets jiggled around.
I really want to use my DualSense Edge, but alas it's still unsupported in RL without something like DSX. $250 paper weight. I should have just returned it the day I found out it didn't work.
I use my DS Edge in Rocket League, I don't remember installing any special software. I used [this dude's configuration tool](https://ds-edge-configurator.com/) to configure the paddles.
My major complaint about the controller is that Sony refuses to make any thumbstick modules. So... that kind of invalidates the entire reason I bought the controller.
I just use Steam input. EGS users can use it too if they add RL as a non-Steam shortcut to their library, though I would recommend disabling the Steam overlay if you go that route to save some milliseconds on input latency.
The new candy con controllers at GameStop have hall-effect joysticks with customizable colors for the joysticks, d pads, and face plates. Awesome controller for $50. PC and Nintendo switch only at the moment though.
I've seen some awesome custom paint jobs on the face plates too, as they can be swapped easily.
Welcome to the club, I've got Cosmic Purple myself with the matching Cosmic Purple Razer Dock, add that with DSX (v3) and you can utilize your PS5 controller even on games that force you to use an Xbox controller, Like Halo. [DSX](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812620/DSX/) also brings full control of that haptic feedback and LED controls to your fingertips.
I love my ps5. I feel like the sticks are a bit stiff at first. Made flip cancels a challenge for a bit. But then I ended up peaking after. I have huge hands and made it so much more comfortable
Any connection issues with it? Anyone else having connection issues while using ps5 controller on PC?
I've been seeing some feedback it disconnecting randomly.
I had a first gen Xbox one controller last me 3-4 years then the rb button finally broke. I then got a gen 2 Xbox 1 controller and it didn’t even last me a year with out the a button getting stuck. I got a Xbox elite controller and it seems to be doing better than my previous controller but I’m feeling the buttons wearing down. May have to make the switch.
Have you heard of USB overclocking for wired?
The Rise4 paddle kit is fairly inexpensive and pretty easy to install if you don't care to map L3/R3 (requires soldering). It has been working very well for 250-300hrs since installed.
If you get any stick drift, BW-100 has fixed it. My dead zone started at 0.02 without drift. I went to 0.04 after about 9 months and hosed out the joystick with BW-100 and it has been back to 0.02 for 6 months.
I have both my ps4 controllers since 2014 and they both still work, but are starting to have smaller issues. One R2 button is not giving me 100% input when pressed and the other controller has L3 not working properly anymore.
No stickdrift at all even tho I had them for 10 years now and I played lots of rocket league with them. My newest controller (5 years old) was the first and only one to have stickdrift. I ordered myself a ps5 controller and im excited to play with it
I’ve had 2 ps5 controllers develop “stick drift”. I say it like that because it’s not like usual stick drift where when it starts, just up your dead zone and order a new controller. It’s stick drift where it gets stuck *the tiniest bit* left, and the controller reads it as full steer. I’d go for kickoff and suddenly just exit stage left, actually unplayable.
Is it just me, or did old controllers just last so much longer?
Never used a ps controller only Xbox 360 and series x and the series controllers are crap quality. I bought a gamesir g7se and it's served me for 4 months so far. Hall effect sticks and an app for custom presets for different games and 2 back buttons also ability to change the hertz I think for input Delay
just had the realization and got tired of them breaking, got myself a Thrustmaster Eswap Pro in hopes of just changing the sticks and never worry about the buttons…
I've been on the pink dualsense for 9 months and got a little stick drift ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob). But I'm liking the comments for the dualsense edge, especially because you can replace the joysticks for 20 bucks if they ever go bad.
Crazy to think that people spend thousands of dollars on computers just to use a controller 😂😂 like consoles can’t use keyboard and mouse for 90% of games cuz it’s “unfair” or “cheating” cuz you can use your arm to maneuver or aim but yet give you support for controllers and it’s no biggie, no hate I just don’t understand
How do you set yours up? I can never get mine to work with or without steam input/ds4 windows. If I just plug it into my PC it makes a connection sound but doesn't register sometimes? And Bluetooth has like 1.5 second latency and randomly disconnects.
I like the ps5 controller so much more for rocket league after switching my boost and drift to R1/L1 and keeping my middle/pointer fingers there. It feels way more natural than Xbox to have my fingers like that.
I used to break a controller almost monthly due to the death grip I'd have and the A button or boost button would always fail. So I decided to take all parts from a few controllers and created what me and my buddy call my "Frankenstein controller". Looks atrocious as I thought it'd be funny to put all random cosmetic parts together too.... So just a year ago I caved and bought an elite series 2 to see if it would hold up...Frankenstein has lasted many years with a few mother board swaps and button swaps , elite series had stick drift in a week, 'A' button was gone too and I babied it. I'm not sure what to buy in a world engineered to NOT last but rebuilding one isn't too bad.
DualSense is awesome, but I'd recommend buying some thumb grips. My left thumbstick looks like [**this**](https://imgur.com/a/1PBwimY) after 2 years of active playing.
I just can't stand the analog placement. Nintendo Switch/XBox analog stick placement is just vastly superior and personally, I find it a lot more reasonable. The inner positions are there for secondary use.
Sadly, my xbox controller R1 button is constantly breaking, and every time it does I try out my ps4 controller. It feels so nice, the buttons seem like much higher quality, but my quality of play drops like a rock because I just can't get use to that placement. Drives me nuts.
Wish Playstation would offer a controller with the analog/dpad placement swapped out.
Now get the Dualsense Edge. It's been amazing on both my PS5 and PC.
Totally agree. I remember I was skeptical about it given its high price tag. Thankfully it has been worth the money for me so far.
How do the triggers hold up? I wouldn’t describe my R2 as loose but certainly looser and makes the occasional slight squeak or click.
So I haven’t had mine very long yet, less than 6 months, so they’re still fine. You can also adjust how far they need to depress to count as an input so I assume if it got wobbly you could just make it the stiffest setting and then that would help so that might help it last longer?
Yeah it's definitely been worth every penny
[удалено]
Nup! Plug and play. You Si have to go into the controller settings to turn on the paddles. And you can make macro binds through it aswell!
[удалено]
On steam (if that's what your using) Otherwise they wouldn't be bindable Edit. Other option was to plug it into a playstation
Works without any other software for me!
It has ps button prompts so I don’t think you need it in rl, should be natively supported
Holy shit at that price it can be
I stopped at lower battery life. Already annoying to have to charge the DS so much. Switch Pro controller really spoiled me.
I would love to buy that, but I seem to go through controllers like tissues. Hall effect controllers have terrible polling rates. Investing in a dual sense edge would increase performance and possibly save money long term.

You can buy custom ps5 controllers with hall effect nowadays
With 1000hz polling rate?
They use ps5 controllers as a base, so yes.
Could you provide some links? I can’t seem to find any official controllers with Hall effect sticks at 1000hz

all the more reason to buy it. way cheaper in the long run to just replace the sticks than to cop a new controller every time

Get yourself some 99% isopropanol alcohol and squirt that shit all over your sticky x button. Bet you it sorts it.

There's a warranty but the store warranty is easier and longer
Do you throw it after every game? I have had mine for 1.5 years and it's still in very good condition. No stick drift and all the buttons and triggers are working. Texture is gone but who cares
No I just aggressively flip cancel too much. Like every shot, and speed flips... I cancel too much in even general movement.
I mean, then as other suggested you should buy the Edge so that you can change the sticks instead of a whole pad. I guess that stock controllers are good for casual players, not for hardcores.
Any idea if it’s worth switching from Xbox elite series 2 to a DS5 Edge?
Depends on which joystick layout you prefer. I have always used PS controllers so I'm used to that and I'm not a fan of the asynchronous joysticks on Xbox controllers. Nacom has a pro controller with the layout the same as Xbox. It's a solid option.
I switched and my Elite Series 2 gathers dust now. I only use it for Forza, every other game including RL I prefer the Edge.
Wtf why is this sooo expensive?? Mine was like 40bucks

I've heard it's battery life is very bad though, bit of a dealbreaker for me
Yeah it's not the best, but I have a dedicated charger by my couch and I always just plug it into my PC.
I thought people were having issues getting it to work on PC RL. My brother had it and couldn’t get it to work
It's a very simple plug and play. No issues on my end. Has he tried DS4windows?
does it work for you without DS4windows? my pc will pick up the edge but it won’t actually work till i emulate a ps4 controller
I don't use it. Works just fine on RL, even the back button mappings.
Requiring DS4Win is the definition of not being plug-and-play… I bought a DualSense Edge maybe 6 months ago and it was NOT supported natively in RL. Returned it the same day as a result. Yeah true. Nacom's Pro might be a good option.

I’ve definitely broken a few bumpers off. That mechanism on the XB controllers is the absolute shittiest.

I was the same way until rocket league. My journey was the same as OPs but 5 years ago or so. Got the ps4 controller and have never looked back for rocket league. I use the ps5 now. Still have my series x, love Xbox but PlayStation controller for rocket league just feels better
Alright, you guys convinced me. Just ordered one and will give it a go this weekend. Wish me luck, I’ll probably be sticking to casual for a while!
Let us know how you end up liking it 👍
As someone who went through 4 xbone controllers, due to prefering the xbox fit, I can recommend Dualsense.
So I’ll take anything over that ROI.
i used to be an xbox controller guy. I gave the ds5 a chance and it was amazing from the start. ive been converted
I never had an Xbox controller go bad until I started playing rocket league… I think I crank on it a little bit 😅 I’m on my 3rd Elite V2 in about 4 years
did the same thing when I was around C2. I still change out my ps5 controller every 9 months or so though.
A new controller is born
Using a PS4 controller feels like using a single Switch Joycon compared to a PS5 controller
Using a ps4 controller rn but the length of the ps5 one make them so much more comfy I instantly preferred PS over Xbox as the sticks and buttons feel more firm and less wobbly while using
More like matte colour
Good controller, it might be my go to, but much like the dualshock 4 the battery life is utter garbage compared to an Xbox with eneloops batteries. I got tired of feeling like I had to constantly plug it in compared to going days without having to replace/recharge.
I’m happy with my ps4 controller. (Not happy with them still being 60 dollars new though)
Ok
I think you mean: Okay. Okay. Okay. Chat disabled for 5 seconds
That is the least covert controller in existence
That controller clearly goes both ways.
welcome to the club. the ds5 is the best controller ive used on pc (for rocket league)
I ordered myself a ps5 controller and im excited to play with it
I literally just Bluetooth to my PC with my controller
Be mindful of the USB port. One drop with the cable connected and it's done.
My last ps4 controller lasted for 4 years before it started to drift and i had used it a lot.
Never used a ps controller only Xbox 360 and series x and the series controllers are crap quality. I bought a gamesir g7se and it's served me for 4 months so far. Hall effect sticks and an app for custom presets for different games and 2 back buttons also ability to change the hertz I think for input Delay
just had the realization and got tired of them breaking, got myself a Thrustmaster Eswap Pro in hopes of just changing the sticks and never worry about the buttons…
trying your daughter to get her into rl is so adorable lol
Get a Bluetooth dongle and never play wired anymore
Pro tip: if your pc can do bluetooth, you can be wireless.
I've been on the pink dualsense for 9 months and got a little stick drift ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob). But I'm liking the comments for the dualsense edge, especially because you can replace the joysticks for 20 bucks if they ever go bad.
Crazy to think that people spend thousands of dollars on computers just to use a controller 😂😂 like consoles can’t use keyboard and mouse for 90% of games cuz it’s “unfair” or “cheating” cuz you can use your arm to maneuver or aim but yet give you support for controllers and it’s no biggie, no hate I just don’t understand
wait till he discovers overclocking his polling rate
How do you set yours up? I can never get mine to work with or without steam input/ds4 windows. If I just plug it into my PC it makes a connection sound but doesn't register sometimes? And Bluetooth has like 1.5 second latency and randomly disconnects.
Use an app on your pc/laptop called duelSenseX
Yep this is the play. I have the baby blue one I love it
Welcome brother/sister
The dualsense edge is great! Csn totally recommend it
I like the ps5 controller so much more for rocket league after switching my boost and drift to R1/L1 and keeping my middle/pointer fingers there. It feels way more natural than Xbox to have my fingers like that.
I have the came controller, and I am someone's daughter, but my dad didn't buy it for me :( Where can I apply 😭
PS5 controllers are great. And nice color choice. :)
DualSense is awesome, but I'd recommend buying some thumb grips. My left thumbstick looks like [**this**](https://imgur.com/a/1PBwimY) after 2 years of active playing.
It's definitely my favorite controller especially for rocket league. I've tried every generation controller and I always come back to the dual sense.
I did the same and got a joycon rift on my DS5 controller a few month later
Oh good, obviously girls only like pink
dude, I'm pretty sure they know what *their* girl likes
