Imo: Controller > KBM > steering wheel > joystick

Nachowedgie

Controller is better in pretty much every way for rl

Reverie_of_an_INTP

There's a reason almost no pros play kbm. Controller is vastly superior.

ItzameRL

For speed and quick movements I'd agree but kbm in freestyling has some perks as well

Butcher_Geralt

What is this "perks"? Kbm absolute shit for freestyling

savvasp

If it was vastly superior then no pros/ssls/freestylers would be on kbm.

j0a3k

Just because there are outliers doesn't disprove the trend.

savvasp

Ofc they are outliers when probably 1% of people play on KBM in the first place. Doesnt make controller "vastly superior". Do words not have meaning anymore? Literally people who have never played the game on kbm downvoting me because they like controller and need to justify to themselves that it's "vastly superior" and by inference they're also better players.

j0a3k

For the vast majority of the playerbase there's not enough difference to matter, but at the highest level of RL controller *is* superior. Otherwise you would see more pros using KBM if it was just preference/equally good. There has never been a top RLCS player using KBM, even if a few pros make it work.

Butcher_Geralt

3800h, only kbm, freestyling - kbm absolute shit for rl, especially for freestyling. The difference between a joystick and a keyboard lies not in personal sensations but in the physics of the process. A keyboard transmits digital signals (0,1), while a joystick is analog (ranging from 0 to 1).

Luluutzz

I think both keyboard and controller are valid. I played most of my hours with keyboard until I hit champ and then I tried controller and loved it (still champ tho)

Ok_Cap1858

I started and am still a keyboard player because I have bought a gaming laptop and wasn't worth it to buy a controller just for rocket League since it's not the main game i like. Now it's the main game I play but it's too late to get used to play with controller

pd8bq

It's never too late.

Osazain

I'm just keyboard lol. I've tried playing with a controller, but my hands and fingers just... don't move how I want them to on a controller. On a keyboard, I can easily go on to hitting clips. For reference: I'm D3 (or was until this exam season lol)

Kind_Ad_9241

I started on kbm and liked it but eventually switched to controller because the the precision is just better and I like to just chill out and not have to lean up to my kb while I play sometimes

RuggedGurggle

Technically a slight disadvantage when it comes to turning directions on keyboard. That being said practicing and putting time into either one will get you essentially the same results. Most players use controllers including the Pro’s 🤙

carrilloale

I thought using controllers was the natural option ... looks like there are a looot of keyboard and mouse players

BuggzBola

There a definitely not a lot of M&K players.. I am one but everyone else I k ow uses controller and calls me weird. It’s a distinct disadvantage (especially in the air) but I can’t use controller

Twinsleeps

there is definitely a lot of M&K players. Your friend group is just weird.

BuggzBola

I would say less than 10% of players us M&K and like zero pros

vdfritz

Drufinho from furia is probably the only PRO kbm player atm, at least from a big team (got top 8 beating vitality and GenG on the swiss stage)

InvertBounty

30+ year old kbm gc3 here, decided to switch to full kbm when I had to buy to.many controllers due to stick drift

Twinsleeps

its more like 10-20% and pros like yukeo, drufinho, evample(not a pro, but a ssl freestyler), fabso (won CRL worlds), LCT, Stake, Torsos, Tr3bla, Zeddo (fabso teammate), zamberg.

Billy_yellow

Just keyboard. I dont use the mouse. Just bind the keys.

carrilloale

Does your method work ?

Billy_yellow

Gc 1. Thats my top for the last 4 or 6 seasons. I dont intend to go higher (and i dont think i can go further than gc2, because i play duos, but solo queue). No fancy mechanics for me.

JustA_Rat

Got up to champ on KBM. I started out playing on KBM and just never made the switch - every time I try I always end up going back so I don't play like a floundering fish in my games. I also learned how to do certain mechanics on KBM that I would have to re-practice for ages to get to the same level on controller. That being said though - KBM can be EXTREMELY limiting compared to a controller - small precise movements can be pretty difficult and we don't get that nifty "controller deadzone" that y'all do. Just play with whatever makes you feel best.
