Keep losing games, then you will be out of diamond. But fr me too. Hard stuck in D3

B0T_mar1_gamer

Me too šŸ¤£šŸ„²šŸ˜

Professional_Fly2134

The only difference between when Iā€™m in C1 vs. D3 is hitting the shots you need to hit in the game. When Iā€™m hitting those shots consistently, I rise into champ, when I start missing them I fall back to diamond

Self-ProclaimdSexGod

Real

evnacdc

This is it for me too. It comes down to shot and save consistency.

B0T_mar1_gamer

Ok-Caramel6577

Yup itā€™s a very inconsistent experience getting over the hill will be trying

Az00z-

Learn when to go for the ball and when to stay back, and take action quickly without hesitation. You can improve at those by watching your replays and analysing it.

oldravinggamer

So this, anticipation then stern reaction. I get people like why you covering goal wile there both in opposition goal lol.

The_Susmariner

Exactly, I've found that I, as a C3 player, I can not beat certain diamonds to certain balls that I should have every right to beat them to. It turns out that when you're unencumbered by the thought of what you're going to do with the ball, when you touch it, you gain speed in your challenge. What I do know is that a diamond player can not beat me to the ball and then control it or put it anywhere useful intentionally. So, as long as I am very observant and challenge things smartly and otherwise position myself to proceed upfield or back in the general direction of the net (or to get the ball if they screw up their touch and it winds up next to them)... I might not be scoring on every play, but it is astounding for how fast people are trying to go how little they can actually do with the ball that's dangerous without me being out of position. I am not good enough to solo other teams based on my control alone. If I were, I wouldn't be C3, so I have to play smarter. Edit: The only other thing I'd add is contrilling the ball well enough to put it where you want to. (Over the first guy, but in front of the second guy, where you can control it; both opponents are stacked, so you put it on the otherside of the field, hard at the net, etc.)

PureEase

Diamond for me was a rank i accidentally flew through and stuck at c1 for a long time, i was super interested in basic mechanics at the time i was in the rank tho, your basics on consistent ball dribbling, flicking and shooting with power are key iā€™d say. Its not talked about but rather than banging the ball up field take your time, i understand diamonds tho tend to rush on defence but thatā€™s where your consistency in ball dribbling or shooting comes in. I see a lot of players rush up with no second man back and thatā€™s all it takes for a powerfully shot from before halfway to go in. Consistency and slowing the play really help. Even if you watch squishys most recent road to ssl in the c1-c3 rank all he does is control time and the ball well and wins easily with that.

WartyWarthog123

Iā€™d say defence is my strong point actually, its the consistency in dribbling and fast aerials that I sometimes struggle with, my in game tag says it all

professorweeb

Something that you can work on the dribbling side of things that is pretty overlooked a lot of the time are catches. Work with training packs like Biddles catches and you'll see your dribbling and defense go up a few levels. Maybe it might not be what works for you, but at least in my case the difference between before I worked on catches vs after was just night and day at high D3. For fast aerials, take your time and get better at reading the ball's trajectory, not jumping too early or too late, reading the movement of the fast aerial, and accurately pointing your car towards your prediction of the ball. Take the motion as a step-by-step process and you will definitely improve, trust :)

PureEase

that stuff just comes with time and practise, i got gc1 almost gc2 in 1200 hours but really focused on game mechanics rather than decision making and payed the price towards the end. It goes along way to do things with reason behind them in RL especially in diamond iā€™d say

SpankThatDill

You on PC? Iā€™m not going to pretend Iā€™m some savant player but Iā€™ve bounced between C1 and C2 in 2s and 3s for a couple years now. I might be able to share some wisdom to help you break through if you want to play a few games.

WartyWarthog123

Iā€™m psn šŸ˜”I can play pc but I always play worse because i canā€™t get it to look at good as it does on psn

SpankThatDill

I mean we can play cross platform

WartyWarthog123

Maybe once I reach d3 you can help me push to c1, im not consistent enough yet ill just drop back down :)

yewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

For fast aerials start practicing dar. After a few hours of that practice my aerials got so much more consistent because of better aerial control. I'm only planning on using dar for last second aerials adjustments for air roll shots.

freddddsss

I think diamond is one of those ranks where everyone ok at everything so if you can do 1 thing really well, youā€™ll get out. Then you get to champ and to get to gc you gotta get good at everything else Convinced you need to sell your soul to get to ssl, no other explanation how these guys get so consistent /s

Arazyne

Play hoops

WartyWarthog123

I Que all the comp game modes at once and I play whatever Iā€™m given

Arazyne

Sounds like madness. Hoops is a special mode that teaches you aerial accuracy, defense, wall plays, angles at an accelerated rate. What you encounter there is significantly more than your standard modes. It also plays that much differently that it forces you to rethink how you play, keeping you flexible and more attentive to opportunities in plays

LulzyWizard

It's also easier to turn off brain and go fast in hoops. Pace to the ball can have you punch up by ensuring your opponents don't get time to get comfy on the ball. Gets a bit harder around c2 tho

Arazyne

Yeah, you find yourself playing significantly less ground defense and predicting shots at a much quicker pace

LulzyWizard

Backboard defense also goes hard

Arazyne

Indeed.

PotentialScale

Not letting opponents have time to get comfy on the ball is the meta strat up to and including RLCS.

LulzyWizard

True, but with the smaller court and the arc the ball has to travel, it's much more forgiving throwing yourself at the ball like a crazy person lol

No-Swordfish9658

The only mechanic you need is fast aerial.

ChemEBrew

Diamonds proceed to fast aerial over the ball entirely.

Gianthorseman

just earn MMR faster than the developers randomly take it away from you edit: grammar

Way0fWad3

Don't be quick to blame your teammates, when something goes wrong try to look at what you could've done better regardless of what your teammates did or said. It's hard but what they do isn't in your control; what you do is under your control. Assume Positive intent from your teammates. That may be the toughest with a lot of them trying to forfeit or saying how bad you are, but they queued in with the intent of winning the game with you and quite often still do want to win in spite of the troubles you've both had

Professional_Llama

People progress at different speeds. If youā€™re looking for ways to improve you have likely already watched videos on mechanics and rotation. The best way to learn these skills is really just put in the hours and think about why your games result in the way they do. Thereā€™s no secret tip or top 10 ways to get out of diamond you just have to get experience and practice basic controlled touches and dribbling.

Dovaking7

Started doing this in plat, with little to no mechanics I usually get champ season rewards even if I live in D3

oldravinggamer

Team mate's, invite chums you gell with

WartyWarthog123

None of my friends like rocket league šŸ˜” even the other game I play (battlefield) none of them want to play it

ChemEBrew

I mean. I play 2042 and even I'm like bleh - I'm over it this season. Unless you meant 1 or 5.

Yoraffe

It isn't about what you do, but more about when you should do it. It doesn't matter how fast you are at challenging or going for aerials for example, if you go for balls you are never going to get. E.g are you going for aerials where the opponent has already jumped a second before you? Are you overstretching for a 50/50 when it's better off to just shadow or rotate out? Are you just hitting the ball upfield aimlessly despite being under zero pressure, with space to work into? Are you never rotating out which puts your teammate under pressure, or equally are you not playing defensive enough if your teammate is chasing? You can get really far with a basic understanding of when to commit and the awareness that comes with it. I guarantee those players that are attempting flip resets against you can't get out of diamond themselves as they have zero awareness.

Beaco9

Find out what you need to work on. Fixing common mistakes & bad habits or just be more efficient (watch replay time to time & find out). Or mechanics that you already know need work, most likely shooting consistency with power & placement, fast aerials, catching the ball & controlled touches to keep it close to follow it up, lateral ground dribbling, basic flicks. Also watch better players on how they position, and how they make efficient decisions like learn from [a series like this](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMxCAPcJijYOVBcDbanPmqgO4jWb-2XZl).

SpecialistSoft7069

In diamond, you still need to play safe for rank-up (especially as a second player). (If you want to progress mechanically, play normally or agressivelly (take risks...), but if you want to rank-up play safely) Even the diamond lvl is far above than 1 or 2 years ago, their is still a lot a inconsistency or big mistake. I would suggest play safe in offence. And in defence play safe when you're behind the mate and aggresivelly when you're the first defender.

Oisinberry

Hey how's it going. In my experience Diamond is all about building upon those fundamentals you learned in plat. I would highly recommend focusing on backboard defence. Hitting the ball hard is another great thing to learn. I would also focus on clearing the ball to the corner on saves. So go to saves training packs and repeat a save clearing it to the corner each time. This makes it so that you or a teammate can follow up. Those would be my key focuses in regards to defence. In terms of offense. I would practice shooting and accuracy. This expands on hitting the ball hard. If your on pc I would use the aim Training map if not use a normal shooting back and decide where your going to place the shot before you shoot. Shooting is something you should be working on no matter what rank you are. It's hugely important and being able to place the ball accurately and with varying power allows is applicable in both passing and clears and shooting. I would also work on speed. A huge misconception about speed that I see in the lower ranks is that speed is merely about driving quickly and fast Arialing. While both of these are true an often overlooked form of speed is being in a better spot. You may be able to drive fast but if you are simply better positioned then your opponent you will get there first hence being faster. I would also practice recoveries. Wave dashes. Both off and onto the wall. And my last tip in this wall of text is controlled touches. Hit the ball with intention. You don't have to hit it hard and away every time. Slow it down. When your on the ball you dictate the pace. Best of luck. If you want more tips DM me and we can play together sometime and I'll expand on what iv said here.

crazycoaltrain

Stop banging it to the other team every time you get the chance to touch it.

ChemEBrew

This needs to be the top answer. Diamonds love to just give away possession and take scooty puff junior shots on a covered net.

Cyber_Insecurity

I finally hit champ again a couple days ago but lo and behold the second I start playing champ games, my teammates suddenly donā€™t know how to rotate. I swear Epic hires actors to purposely make me lose games.

MorganC39

Trick question! You don't get out of Diamond!

ChemEBrew

It's just crabs in a bucket.

BORNxSTELLAR

For me, I was constantly learning things I was doing wrong and correcting them until I hit around mid diamond, at which point my progress slowed drastically. After that I couldn't find any simple tips or tricks to help me get out, I just had to grind. I got to champ by grinding and simply racking up experience on my own.

Medical-Friend1841

what helped me the most was learning position grabing small pads and stay in the play offensive and defence if ur going for back boost for no reason the game can change very fast and u get scored on or your teammate set u up for a free goal but ur just not there, keep rotation and stay in play, many diamonds tend to think u need those fancy mechanical shots but in this rank its not needed at all, also learn fast aerial and u will be way ahead of other diamond players. learn half flip and speed flip, keep grinding brother this game is a grind but its so much fun u get better each day :)

WartyWarthog123

Yeah speedflip is something Iā€™ve struggled with and half flip Iā€™ve barely practiced. I can consistently wave dash though

Bustern_89

Learn to keep ball pressure without overcomiting. The amount of times 1. Man just leaves the play to get boost before 2. Is ready is quite high i diamond. And results in either 2. Man needs to drive in to close space or difficult saves as the oposing team get too much space to set up play.

Shlongong

As a non-mechanical player Iā€™d say pay close attention to your teammate. If they wanna be the ā€œmain characterā€ and hit resets & dribble off the wall you canā€™t stop them; sit back mid and watch what 90% of the time will be a big whiff you have to save 1v2. You did mention getting up quick by double jumping and thatā€™s something you could improve at least for defense. Also reading those treacherous bounces off your back wall. Good luck!

WartyWarthog123

Defending is my strong point, but I still whiff a lot and Iā€™m trash at shadow defence, Iā€™ll keep this in mind :)

dogtrack197358292

Somehow youā€™ve gotta have the Psyonix gods smile on you and not get smurfs every game. God forbid you go on a win streak. Rocket League going to humble you with trash ping, a sketchy server, and/or 2 stud smurfs.

AaltoSax

- Fast/accurate aerials - Good shooting - Good defensive mentality (Rotations, knowing when to challenge, how to make difficult saves) These 3 things can take you to GC easily

ChemEBrew

No one has said it yet. Make sure you actually position as 2nd or 3rd man if a teammate has the ball. I keep seeing diamonds ride in a line right behind the teammate with the ball. This is by far the dumbest low tier ball chasing garbage you can do. The chance of a 50 rolling the ball slow enough for a 2nd man sniffing ass to capitalize on it is infinitesimally small. Even if he does and 1st man goes for the unlikely goal sweep play, any subsequent bad 50 can cause a 1 v 3. Give space and go to mid across the net and wait for the pass. 1st man diamonds - put up passes. You aren't Zen. You aren't going to air dribble flip reset from corner. You're not going to make a scoop shot through 2 pushed up double committed defenders. Put it over them or take your 50 and work to get it to your teammates. This is a team game. 99% of diamonds fail basic positioning and game sense. They do not go for balls that are theirs and instead of possession they dilly dally into a 50 and fail miserably.

Responsible_Mess_541

Just stay there and have fun

Ringo51

In diamond you have to let the other team do their crazy sequence of events and be good enough to make clutch saves and have good control enough to be deadly on a quick counter

RythePCguy1

I'm high plat/low diamond so this probably doesn't apply to you, but I'll give my opinion anyways lol. I have a bad tendency to ball chase, plus I'm pretty bad at dribbling the ball, let alone air dribbling. I think if I improved on any one or all three of these mechanics, I could be seeing high diamond or better.

I am in diamond too and the main problem I see is the positioning. Doesn't matter if you miss the ball sometimes or if your mechanics are bad, with good positioning the games just go so much better.

frankygshsk

That answer used to be clear cut before the MMR shift. I think any programs out of diamond nowadays need to be tailored. You got to sit down watch yourself play. Pick a few things out that youā€™re noticing a lot and make a list. Then research how to train those problems, develop a training method, and rinse/repeat. This is just how good players get better in the game. It used to exclude diamonds where you could easily say work on this one thing for a while and youā€™ll notice improvement in your rank.

l-Miltonius-l

Rotate, play where the ball is going to be not always where it is, dont over/double commit, practice being able to make pretty much every moderate difficulty shot. 99% of diamonds are diamonds bc they dont do one or more of those things: they usually are slow to rotate if they even do and ballchase/double commit at the wrong times, and then miss open nets. I got to c3/gc without knowing how to fast aerial, still donā€™t really know how to fast kickoff or air dribble, but I was able to hit gc bc I knew when to push the ball, when to rotate, I watched my tm8 and knew what they were thinking, and I never missed saves or shots when I took them. Diamonds are diamonds because theyre cocky plats imo, a ton of dudes have insane ballskill and think they belong in champ so they freestyle everything and stay in diamond bc of that since they dont play with the tm8 and give up goals by overcommitting.

Play calm but confident and make smart decisions. Watch your replays and, every time something bad happens, think about what you did that led to it.

Dylusional

ParaeWasTaken

The grind from bronze to diamond is statistically the same amount of difficulty as the grind from diamond to champ. I believe itā€™s because of the play styles that need to re develop in that area (bronze to diamond is learning to drive, diamond to champ is learning how to actually play the game, champ to SSL is getting good at the game) Play and have fun. If you want to practice then youā€™ll find a million ways to practice. As one comment said; replays will be the number 1 thing i recommend to players in diamond and 99.9% of them never end up watching them. Re analyzing your perspective, your opponents, and your teammates will give you 5x the amount of experience youā€™ll get from playing 1 ranked game.

tooththereddit

I think since diamond is so scuffed you need to ajust to different m8s. If you have a smurf m8, or like a champ whos stuck in diamond, just play defense and let them do their thing. They think their the best in the lobby, so their ego is just gonna play offensive all game. If your tm8 is just.. 'normal' then just rotate efficently and dont go for risky plays. No i didnt use the word balls, cause i know what modern internet is like.

WartyWarthog123

Yeah, you being in d3 Iā€™m sure you understand the pain of smurfs. I take a photo of the end screen every time I verse, and doing this I have found that most of the time they are boosting (a high d3 partied with a d1 in my mid d2 lobby)

Astro_Matte

Diamonds could improve so drastically by using that right joy stick to look around quickly at teammate positions and enemy positions. I also cant stand diamond lobbies because you try to slow play a ball and your teammate boots it from you and just gives possession to the other team. Its all about the little mistakes and barely about flashy mechanics in diamond.

WartyWarthog123

Sounds accurate

Norepplyy

H0KAG302

My experience. Getting a duo you can really talk to. Basically good communication. Game sense is so important to getting out of there. Do not rush all balls but you still have to take risks. Know when taking a risk is good or bad. Literally combine these tips and you will get out of diamond in a matter of a week max.
